Ways that I grew as a writer is knowing information about the topic on that I am covering. Studying the information and taking key notes helped me to understand how to go along with it when writing. Formatting an outline helped me formulate the structure of my whole writing. I learned grammar practices and a paper should be formatted by going over certain mistakes I made from the past. Getting feedback from the instructor helped me see certain mistakes that I didn't see at first or didn't even know existed. Learning from past examples helped me become a better writer. Lots of practice also helped in me into become a better writer. I wasn't used to writing a lot on topics that was required to turn in; such as having homework that required a
Writing 101 has been a tremendous learning experience for me. It is not my strongest area, so it is my primary reason for taking the class. I took this Writing 101 class to improve my writing skills. In college courses, I have to do a tremendous amount of writing. Writing is also not my favorite thing to do, because it takes time, thought and research. The first week of class, we had to write the first assignment draft. I thought this class will be hard for me and difficult to keep up with the assignments. I disagree with my initial thought. The class definitely challenged me, but I learned so much. My expectation was to improve my writing skills. I would say I met that expectation. However, I feel that I need to continue to learn and perfect my writing to become even more proficient. I learned how to develop strong thesis statements, to conduct online library searches. I started WRTG 101 with a basic knowledge of the writing skills; now I know how to accurately use punctuations, I know how to develop unified, consistent and well-supported paragraphs, and I know my weaknesses in my writing.
I have found becoming a writer every bit as much a process as writing itself. One does not become a writer overnight but over time, and I offer the following stories as examples of some of the steps I have taken in what is proving to be a life-long process.
This year has been a blast! There were so many things that just cried out me, and the projects were so much fun! I know I have grown as a writer by starting to have less and less edits on my paper. Making my blog helped me grow as a writer because it made me want to work harder. I wanted to work harder because I knew people would see my work. Sacred writing time has helped me grow as a writer because the time was helpful in the sense that I got some of my best ideas in just 5 minutes. Mrs. Lockwood has been a huge influence on my writing ability. Her instruction helped me grow by fixing my errors. I made many grammatical and punctual errors, that is, before I started no red ink. No red ink helped me to eliminate those errors. I usually don't
When I communicate, I will focus on what my audience needs or wants to learn, not on what I feel like telling them. Strive to see things from their perspective. Writing is a complex mixture of skills which works best for me by breaking down the process. The writing process involves a series of steps to follow such as pre-writing, drafting, editing, and publishing. I found that by focusing on the process of writing, I learn to write successfully. Developing the act of writing down into distinct steps allows me to maintain perspective on my writing, to understand that the feedback is about a specific aspect of my writing, and to discover that I can master and yes, even enjoy writing! Plagiarism content symbolizes that you have not worked carefully
This class has been a stepping stone to my accomplishments as a writer. Over the course of semester, I have been challenged to tackle several different writing styles and succeed in each one in a unique way. It is through the rhetoric, technology, research, and collaboration used in this class that has progressed me as a writer and an individual.
I’ve never been much of a writer. When I was little my parents focused strongly on being a good reader and the importance of reading, but never the importance of writing. I struggled throughout all of elementary school and Middle school trying to be a better writer. I never felt like a “strong” writer. After about 5th grade I came to think of writing papers and essays as the worst possible punishment in school. I had a breakdown in 6th grade when I heard we had to write a research paper. I even vowed in 8th grade after I had to write a 4 page research paper that I would never take a writing class in Highschool no matter what. And yet as my Junior year in High School rolled around I found myself taking a College Level Composition class.
This semester has impacted me and my writing abilities greatly. I feel I have improved in all aspects of writing. Throughout High school writing was never my preferred subject, but after taking this class I have developed an interest in writing and no longer look at it as a chore, but more as a method to express myself.
My writing is still in progress because I have some things that I am proud of and there are also some features in my writing that needs to be fixed. For example, I am proud of myself working hard to get a good score in my first major essay by making lots of revisions and making sure I have a plan before I write. Next, I am also proud of my second mini essay ( which was a speech to convince authorities). I am proud of this piece of work because not only did I get a good score, I used Logos, Pathos, and Ethos correctly in my speech. This work proved that I can use rhetorical appeals in a way to persuade my audience. In addition, I am proud of some of my creative prompts. I remember I had a prompt about what happen last night. In this prompt I
My writing essays represent a timeline of improvement , from my first essay to my last essay I’ve noticed my growth as a writer. It was not until later on the semester that I realized that I lacked substantial academic vocabulary and had ongoing run on sentences, grammatical errors. My word choice was really repetitive with the constant use certain words. I have progressed where I have expanded my ability to use clear description and make my technical information clear. For example when writing essay 2 and 3 having to insert figures helped me portray my argument much more clearly. When addressing the figures in my writing they had become much more clear. Considering our class revolved around technological developments of the future it was very
I believe I am an intermediate writer. I believe I am an intermediate writer because I usually get A's on every writing assignment I do, I've done a lot of writing in the past, and I have my mom who was an English teacher and helps me with my writing.
When I was younger creative writing was my strongest link, but as the assignments and requirements grew harder I lost my touch and began to struggle. After taking both English courses I can definitely say that it has helped me grow as a writer and as person. Before entering English courses I knew very little about writing. In my high school classes, I was taught how to write but was never taught how to do correct formatting, citing, and did not know the importance of writing in general. Thankfully, after getting my feet wet, I learned as much as I possibly could so that I could be knowledgeable for future assignments, and now I understand how important everything having to do with writing is. My two college English courses have taught me more than I learned throughout my four years in high school.
My growth as a writer was evident in my second peer review. In contrast to the first review, I offered comments concerning sentence structure, grammar, parallelism, APA style, and clarity as well (C. Twyman, personal communication, May 2015). It was obvious that my understanding of scholarly writing had improved. I was starting to see how the conventions of writing worked together to form a complete paper, however I was still unsure about my ability to analyze competent scholarly writing. Although my comments had increased in variety, I still found myself unsure about how to give appropriate directives. In communication with Cheryl, I wrote, “maybe reword this” (C. Twyman, personal communication, May 2015). This short but sweet comment
As I continue through my development as a writer, I acquire more and more skills that can make my composition interesting, easy to follow, and strong in its presentation of an argument. In English 102 this semester, I was able to grow my skills, especially in terms of conducting and reporting research, citing that research, and having an organization that makes my writing easy to follow and presents my argument clearly and succinctly.
Looking back at this year I know that developing my writing was something that was there but needed some improvement. When there were no teachers around to go over my writing I found websites that would correct my grammar and used that to my advantage. This would either make or break my writing because it could make it shorter or longer. My writing when there is a rubric to follow is great because I know what to follow but with reflections like these, it’s hard to develop good
Writing is one of the most important skills that I have learned throughout my years in school. I have learned that no matter how much I love or hate it, writing is a necessity; I might as well try to be good at it. Writing has been in my life for many years. There are many types of writing, educational writing and personal writing are two that I will mention in this essay. I have learned how to allow writing to help me in my daily life. When I began writing I hated it, however, I have learned the many uses of it, and it has become a huge part of my life.
