As long as I had read your comment, I felt so thankful that you were honest to what I wrote. I thought your comment was very helpful to my writing skill, because the haredest part of writing is to make the reader understand the passage. I can remembered that my first time of writing was very bad. I did not understand what I wanted to communicate or tell the readers. I just wrote what I thought and leave it. I realized that in order to be a good writer. I should wrote things that make sense to the reader, and be clear on what I am trying to tell them. My bad point was I am over thinking about the topic. I always think too much and that’s made me out of the point. When people read my writing that will be confused and struggling to what
Also remember that writing is process which takes time to perfect. English has never been one of my favorite subjects, mainly just because I never really consider myself to be a good writer and by the normal standard I may not be. In a sense though, I found contrary to my belief that my writing wasn’t all that bad. Now it took time for me to see that for myself, because
I always thought that my writing skills were pretty good until I started this class. It has been thirteen years since I graduated high school and I quickly realized that I had a lot of “refreshing” to do as far as writing papers. I actually felt very discouraged when I took the grammar test and did not score very well. I knew that I had to dedicate myself and put a lot of effort into this class to really improve. The practice quizzes were a major help to refresh on everything I must have forgotten since high school. Being able to write a quality paper is a skill that everyone should master. Writing is such a major part of communication in this day and age so being able to write an intelligent paper will benefit you not just through school but also through life. Writing skills are a reflection of intelligence and I want to perfect my writing the best that I can. Being able to write a quality paper is a skill that everyone should master. It is essential to understand that classes taken in grade school do not give students a full understanding of each subject. With the topic of writing, there will always be a new lesson to learn, an aspect to improve, or a differing way to explain. Author Craig Vetter states in Bonehead Writing, “This is your enemy: a perfectly empty sheet of paper. Nothing will ever happen here except what you make happen.” Each story, essay, or response comes from a writer’s experiences. With each attempt at a new piece comes an underlying story of emotions the writer is facing. Each person’s writing is unique and the ideas people have are related to their past experiences and what they believe to be familiar with when deciding which writing style to use. As a high school student, I have learned many things about writing that helped me become the improved writer I am today, but the most essential advice I have received is practice makes perfect. Although there is no actual perfect way of writing, I have discovered that each essay I write, my writing improves. It is easier to spot mistakes, find areas to improve, and ponder elevated word choice to use.
John realized that keeping my writing consistent is a critical part in your writing. A reader would
Ever since I started extemporaneous speaking for speech and debate, my whole analytical out view has changed. I believe that speech has helped me form better arguments in my paper. I am also proud of my conclusion paragraph because we were able to use first person. My first person account related to the topic well and helped cement my voice as a writer. My development of ideas and language could improve. Both aspect of writing just need a little boost to reach higher sophistication. Finally, my organization of this paper wasn’t the best. In my Poe paragraph, I back tracked on events which made it confusing for the reader. When setting up my next paper, I will be more cognizant of organization. Then there’s my old nemesis, conventions. My conventions use has improved since the beginning of the year, but I still have a long way to go. I think that just meeting with you Ms. Phillips will help me to fix my MUGS errors. All in all, I am very proud of this paper. Not only because it was the first “training wheels off paper” but because I used you, Ms. Phillips, as a resource as well. My analysis in papers have greatly improved and my voice is stronger than ever. I will continue to manage my time in addition to using you as a resource to improve results for the next
Writing is quite hard for me; maybe it is because I do not have much experience writing. However, free-writing process has been a great deal of help. For this assignment, I used free-writing technique to complete my first draft, and then I edited the draft. The challenging part of this assignment was figuring out the main points of the essay. The essay was long and interesting and at first I felt like it had way too many pages for me to summarize it with 300 words. However, as I started writing it, the process became easy and I was able to complete it under 300 words. I think I did pretty good job explaining the authors’ primary points. I would like you to comment on my grammar.
One of the techniques I am going to use through out college is talking to
The first piece of writing in this section is my creative writing. I wrote this piece during my freshman year. The purpose for this piece was to grow my skills in story writing and my enhance my grammar skills. When I wrote this paper I wasn’t good at writing. Looking at this piece, I can see my thoughts didn’t flow well and I was all over the place. I wasn’t very excited to write so I didn’t do well on this paper.
Within this semester, I built off of your comments and worked to form a more focused piece of writing. While I succeeded on keeping to one aspect that I was trying to explain, I did not go into enough detail to support it. Again, I struggled with being more specific and detailed about what I was trying to express. I gave a basic overview of the concept.
There are many ways to write an essay, everybody does it a little differently. There is not just one way to write successfully. Most people write the way they do because it helps them to be creative. The best time for me to write is when I'm feeling creative. Sometimes I can just rattle away on my keyboard and the resulting essay or story will be excellent, but other times I really have to think about what I'm writing. Out of the four types or writers I would categorize myself as a chunk writer. The only way for me to write well is to just relax and let my mind flow. It’s almost like the less time that is spent thinking about writing, the better I am at it. The main reason for me thinking I'm a chunk writer is because the way I write is a
I have not been able to take trainings or webinars to improve my writing skills as above mentions opportunity had not been provided by the March of Dimes, but I am working constantly on the improvement of my writing skills by other means e.g. using of Grammar Suggestions websites and Online Editor. I am also an avid
Writing opens doors for an individual to succeed in life. Therefore, being professional also helps with creating a successful writer. These two combined show the importance of being able to write professionally. Writing would be essential to any person. The reason being is because the way a person writes dictates how well they can enunciate words and comprehend information.
A painter will often start off with single color and build a foundation for the artwork. When a blotchy mistake is made, the artist must return to the base in order to secure the error. The same concept should be used in writing. The artist must first create the rough draft before removing the clutter which appears over the initial thought. In On Writing Well, Zinsser discusses and explains the importance of: word choices, simplicity, removing excess clutter, the intro and conclusion, and the audience of the writing.
Writing a decent essay can be as nerve wrecking, time consuming, and accompanied by many trail and errors as an art project. First you have to generate an idea, which can be the biggest challenge. Then you have to decide on what detail to incorporate and then correct placement for it. You start throwing colors and shapes together in hope that it will transform into a pleasing design. This all takes times, so being challenged to create art work, whether it be an essay or painting, in sixty minutes becomes even more nerve wrecking and mind boggling. After last week’s timed writing practice, I was able to experience the dreadful event of producing an art work, which in my case was an essay, on the spot. Having this challenge has helped me identify several techniques that need improvement, but also gain awareness of what writing areas I comprehend.
There are times when finding the things to say here, comes naturally. There are times where the words seem to flow into my fingers and onto the screen without me having to give them much thought at all. It’s funny how those times are never when I need them the most. My last entry here, I claimed was the hardest, but the reality of it all is that I missed the most important part of it… and I am sorry. I thought honestly that what I posted before covered what needed to be covered to satisfy the assigned topic. I was wrong. It is my own fault I suppose. I did not really ask for any clarification to what it was that Master wanted from me for the assignment. I truly thought that I understood what he wanted from me. I can admit that I was wrong
