When I arrived on campus, just 22 months ago, I was astounded by the genuine Kent State University community that welcomed me with open arms and kind hearts. There was no better evidence of this than the unconditional and overwhelming support I have received over the last month. I continue to be deeply moved by the outpouring of thoughtful well wishes from so many students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. Your empathy and caring messages of encouragement remind me of just how grateful I am, and how fortunate we all are, to be part of this truly special
Reflecting on this course over this semester, there have been many lessons learned that will be valuable, as we enter the business world. Our first lesson was to learn to work together, as a team, to prepare a short memo, long memo, letter, and email for use in the business world. This is a lesson that will experience many times as we do our daily work. Punctuation and grammar are so important to present to the client and other organizations that we are professionals. It could mean the loss of a sale or acquiring new business. It’s like dressing for work; looking professional or unprofessional.
Academically, I am a student who loves to challenge herself. I will take the harder courses knowing that I may struggle and that the chances of getting a high grade are lower. I am the type of student who makes an effort to understand and fully grasp concepts by going to office hours, asking questions, and studying. I make sure to understand the material and not just learn something for the sake of learning it. I am a driven student who takes initiative when it comes to my education, however I also feel that in college I will need guidance. I am not always sure which route is best to take and I need the support of people who have already gone through similar experiences. USC is a wonderful university filled with some of this generation’s, and
Throughout my high school years, I have had the opportunity to demonstrate my leadership skills through different organizations and events. I have participated in events such as History Fair, and have been part of the organization of National Honor Society through three years of high school. I was the leader of my History Fair project group when preparing for competition. The organization of National Honor Society has helped me demonstrate my leadership skills through volunteer work meant to help and improve society helping me gain experience as a leader.
I currently attend Eastland Career Center and I am studying Criminal Justice. Some of the skills I have learned in the Criminal Justice program include the following: fingerprinting, use of handcuffs, searches and seizures and training in first aid and CPR. Physical training is also part of our class, it consists of a mix between running and cross fit exercises.
I can see Texas Christian University as a great fit for me because it offers so much for me to grow as a students. I can see myself attending the Academic Services offered by TCU in order for me to become a better students and go for help. At Haverford I would find myself using their academic help services, asking teachers questions and go for extra help. TCU also offers its students a wide variety of major and minors to choose from. Business is an interest of mine and TCU offers a great business program. But if I was not to go down that path TCU would allow me to find a new major or minor to choose.
Texas A&M constantly reminds me and encourages the students to be a part of something bigger than themselves. This is important because it gives each student a feeling of responsibility to leave this campus better than they found it. At most colleges the students only have the common ground of attending the same university, however at Texas A&M its more than just a university but rather a family. This is one of the major aspects that brought me to A&M, I had heard about the Aggie family and how it is unlike any other college in the nation. In my years here, I have experienced the Aggie family and watched how strangers are bonded just knowing they make up a family together. Each member of a family has responsibilities to help out and serve their
Over the past two years, Oklahoma Baptist University has proven to be a life-changing place for me. I have learned not just about studying and preparing myself for a future career, but also invaluable truths and life lessons that I will never forget.
How can technical colleges help motivate their students more? Technical colleges cater to student interests, rather than push students through, VTC offers a deeper education about what matters to me. Additionally, the smaller classes at VTC will help me with understanding topics through smaller student to teacher ratios. I was always the type of student who loved small classes, excelling with some monitoring from my teacher. I need a college that can understand my thirst for learning, and VTC will help guide me towards my future goals. Once accepted, I will be diligent in my classes, and learn every topic thoroughly throughout my college years. Even take every single piece of information to heart. Every assignment that I will write is going
I was becoming very educated about my “miseducation,” blacks as a society’s miseducation. We were regarded as chattel, beaten, family and spirits broken, it was actually illegal to get an education. It was the law of the land for profit then dominance. Racism grew. The fallout from missing this huge part of our history still haunts us all as a society today, over 350 years later. Tune into any media genre to stay updated on the state of affairs for racial relations. #blacklifesmatter….
When presented with the word community I think comradery, a group of people whom give one a sense of belonging. According to Webster’s dictionary a community is defined as “a body of people having common rights, privileges, or interests, or living in the same place under the same laws and regulations. According to that definition I felt like it was easy for me to identify with various communities all at once.
I was blessed to be born to a Cuban mother and Mexican father, living in Miami I've been able to embrace both cultures. I usually speak in Spanish with my friends and classmates and I've been exposed to a variety of cultures in my community. Interacting with students from different backgrounds has been eye opening for me, especially the opportunities I've had to travel. Last year I was selected by Honors College to learn about the issues going on globally in Austria and Germany. In Salzburg, I had the honor of speaking with professors from the University of Salzburg, which showed me how most Europeans view the world. It was a culture shock seeing how some Austrians saw the United States and their thoughts on taxes. This experience pushed me
Berry College offers legitimate access to world class faculty, a phenomenal international studies program, and a stunning campus.
During my first year at UMD I dedicated much time and effort to ensuring academic success. In tandem to my pursuit for academic excellent I also sought to be involved in the UMD community. While achieving good grades and getting the most out of learning are worthy pursuits, I firmly believe that reaching out to others in various ways helps me to grow and mature. Since sharing my gifts with others will help to improve my educational experience, this year I plan on starting calculus tutoring. I am eager for the opportunity to have a chance to sharpen my leadership skill through this program. When I first got to UMD, I made friends at the Newman Center. I helped out as a student missionary by volunteering to be a small group leader during various
It would be an honor to attend the Air Force Academy and to serve my country like so many before me. I’ve always wanted to be apart of something much bigger than myself my whole life. Ive always had the urge to make a difference. What I mean when I say that is I want to feel like the world is a better place as a result of me being here. Personally, I think it would be selfish of me not to serve my country for those who can not so we all may enjoy the Freedoms we all know and love.
Now that I have been in NYU for a few months, I felt somewhat exhausted but overall enriched. It is exhausting to accommodate a new learning environment and heavy workload in NYU; however, it is also enriching that I gained more knowledge from different courses and improved my writing skills. Although I have finished most of my midterms in October, there is still a lot to be completed in the following months. I am stressed with the tightly packed schedule. I was procrastinating for the midterms and papers in the previous weeks that I did not have enough sleep. In the previous school, I did not procrastinate that much for school works and often have enough sleep at night. I now realized not sleeping enough can greatly affect my concentration and the ability to
