At the beginning of this novel, we were introduced to Sarah Nickerson, a Harvard graduate, with a good paying job as the vice president of Human Resource at Berkeley Consulting, three kids, and a sweet husband. However, she was career-driven and dedicated to her job to afford to live in Welmont and to be able to take care of the family as her husband is trying to survive the second round of lay off at his work. However I noticed that this job put a lot of stress and strain on her and her family, as she didn’t get to spend a lot of times with her kids or husband. In the morning on Friday, she would get her kids ready for school but her and her husband would rock, paper, scissor on who would take the kid to school and when she didn’t have to, she was pretty happy. The day of the accident was when she didn’t have to take her kids. As she was trying to make a phone call, she crashed and ended up in the hospital for eight days. I like how this book go into details of her life before the accident and then illustrates her life afterward.
1. I do believe Jones is being truthful about Ebert, for the most part. I could see how it could be possible that Jones may have “sweetened” it up because he saw Ebert as a real good person. Ebert comes of as an honest and innocent person so I do believe he is being truthful about himself. I’m more likely to believe what someone says about their self because no one knows you better than you.

The homesteads were sparse in these parts, and Devon’s home was about as remote as it could be. His parents had always assured him that living in the countryside was the good life, and that they preferred the quietness to the bright lights and rackets of town centers and cities. But lately Devon had become obsessed with the idea of leaving the village for the excitement of the capital. When not on excavations, his father often spent time working in a research facility in Tridentport. And when he was home, he told stories, thus planting seeds of
Dialectical Inquiry: Dialectical inquiry is a collective choice making method that spotlights on guaranteeing full thought of options. Basically, it includes separating the gathering into contradicting sides, which wrangle about the points of interest and burdens of proposed arrangements or choices. A comparative collective choice making strategy, villain’s promotion, requires that one individual from the gathering feature the potential issues with a proposed choice (McMurray, 1993).
I feel like I, as a student have adjusted to the atmosphere and academic expectations of the class from what I was normally used to. Progress wise, I believe the instruction has been more than sufficient and helpful. I appreciate all the mechanical help and lessons on the key elements and components in our paragraphs and essays, for instance, how to successfully and technically construct a paragraph in an essay. I also appreciate how our class resembles and incorporates parts of the socratic method, in which we all closely read and consider a piece and discuss the meaning, our perspectives and analyze key
Many of the topics that were covered this semester were helpful to me, but the information that benefited me most is on majors, degree audits, and CODA. I already knew most of the information about time management, organization, and the classroom setting, but knew very little about majors, degree audits, and CODA. It was most useful to learn about something that I knew nearly nothing about. The most important reason that I need to understand this topic is so I can schedule my classes. Had I not known about the degree audit and my major requirements, I would have greatly struggled to schedule my classes for the spring semester. Scheduling classes is something that I am going to have to do every semester, so I am glad that I learned about the degree audit this semester. Also, since I am in the Life Sciences First Year program, I will have to change into my actual major of Human Biology. Knowing about CODA is important for helping me through this process. In addition, if I ever decide to change
I thoroughly enjoyed this semester, I felt more comfortable writing papers, typing the papers in the correct format, and setting up the citations correctly. We covered a wide variety of information during this course including useful resource tools, websites, writing styles, critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence, and leadership resilience. I learned something every week that I can implement not only in my professional life, but in my personal life as well.
Throughout the semester, I have learned a lot but thing I can say I took the most from is from the readings of the Psychic Mafia and Paranormal Beliefs. This is because I learned that a lot of people are out there to trick you just to get some money. They take advantage of your misfortune. An example of this is when a mother loses her child, she may go see a psychic to try to talk to her son again. This can lead to the mother being attached and unable to move on with her life. I feel this course has better prepared me for the future of people trying to pull schemes behind your back while trying to take advantages of your weaknesses.
I had a difficult time conjuring changes that I’d make to this course. In all honesty, I felt as if this course is near-perfectly constructed as is. If I had to come with a suggestion it would be to find ways use class time to harbor back what we had learned much earlier; particularly from the slides and article reviews. The length of the semester coupled with the sheer magnitude of content covered in this class can make it easy for one to forget about what they’ve learned earlier on. I find myself struggling with this problem now, as I frantically try to reintroduce myself to some of the material in the earlier lectures and article reviews as I prepare for the final
During this semester, I have learned a great deal about my own writing, and writing in general. One of the main takeaways from this course for me was how to break down the intricate process of writing papers. In addition, I developed viable skills regarding going into more in-depth detail during each step of the writing process. I enjoyed having the freedom to write about a topic that I was able to choose. This allowed me to research and write about something that actually interested me immensely. Having to work with one topic for the entire semester taught me how to find reliable resources and how to pick out the essential research from each article.
It really surprised me that all my hard work in that class paid off in the end. If I can go back and do something differently I would turn in my work to the best of my abilities because I would always turn work that wasn't in the format or sometimes I wouldn't try my hardest to complete the work and after I saw the impact it had on my grades I started to care more and try to do the best I can to do my work and complete it to the best of my abilities. The most interesting thing I've learned so far would be about adaptations in biology it was very interesting to learn how animals can adapt to their environment by having certain features and I like the biology topics in general they are always so interesting and cool. The most important skill I have learned so far is to always have a great mindset and you will always do your best, If you put your mind towards what you want you will always succeed and get what you want. For Semester 2 I want to continue to be a productive learn and to keep up the good grades that I maintained during Semester
What concepts, principles, or ideas that you have learned, do you think you will remember the most after you leave this class?
I have learned so much in this class to prepare me for a successful college experience. There were some topics that caught my attention more than others. Such as, time and stress management, University resources, and critical thinking.
As I reflect on the philosophical studies of this course I realize that knowledge and reason are both central to human beings functionality. The abundant amount of information acquired by these philosophers’ abilities alone makes one wonder, what is the capacity of the human brain and its byproducts. These amazing men who by reason and knowledge alone has changed cultures and has influenced kingdoms for centuries. Learning about their philosophies has enlightened my mind in areas I could never imagined.
