The mission statement for Reflective Treatment Center is “To provide comprehensive treatment services to adults dependent on Opiates, while ensuring recovery and integration back into family and community life through increased socialization, emotional and vocational skills. We are here to make a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve” (Reflective Treatment Center, 2016). Ms. Barnes indicated that the purpose and goals of the agency were included in the mission statement and that she found it well put. She also believes the agency to be meeting its goals which are providing comprehensive treatment services to adults with opiate dependency. By doing this the agency is aiding its clients to ensure recovery and integration back into
At the beginning of my training, I was hesitant to work with people struggling with addiction. However, at this point, I am excited to begin working with this population. The raw honesty presented in the group setting along with the anger at the possibility of losing a safe place created a dynamic I wanted to further explore. Research supports that individuals attending group therapy in a 12 step program format succeed if they have the proper support and motivation (Cite). The group dynamic demonstrated that recovery takes time and self-discovery, similar to other situations dealt with in therapy. Subsequently, by using my sense of self and humor with clients struggling with addiction, I can help them in their journey. Furthermore, the client needs to identify accountability at their own pace in the process and not when others dictate. This knowledge and the personalization of addiction will aid me in the future support of my
As previously discussed, the program the author would choose to evaluate is MAT treatment programs. This population consists of individuals that have been diagnosed with opiate use disorder, and receive opiate-substitution medications, such as Methadone or Suboxone. These program evaluations would be consumer-centered, performed in the clinics they receive services. Interested stakeholders would include the treatment center where the participants receive services, as well as other MAT service providers. Additionally, the funding sources for these individuals and program centers, such as county, state, and federal agencies, along with medical insurers, would also gain value from the program evaluation research.
During the last seven months whilst working at a men’s shelter (Cornerstone Community Association, in the heart of Oshawa, which some may say is the drug capital of the Durham Region) many of the shelter guests (men who stay in the shelter) have disclosed being on the methadone maintenance program, stating as a result of being addicted to opioid drugs. I have chosen to write about this psychoactive drug because I want to explore, become more knowledgeable and more confident when talking about this complex drug.
Narcotics Anonymous is a support group using the same principles as Alcoholics Anonymous but designed for individuals addicted to narcotics (Fortinash & Holoday Worret, 2012). The programs emphasize both personal responsibility and mutual accountability by means of a social model recovery program which is peer-driven. Recovery Kentucky utilizes care and change as their foundation for the peer-driven model. Participants are often reminded the program is not just a pit stop for drug and alcohol use but a commitment to change the whole body, mind and spirit. They are required to attend community meetings and complete a twelve step program where the client will acknowledge the problem, recognize a solution and develop a plan of action that will support the ultimate goal of sobriety (MIC Program Description, n.d.).
Dr. Perry Kendall’s stated in a report that the mortality rate for people in opioid substitution treatment is about half of what it is for those using street heroin. (“globeandmail”) Another doctor, who has been administering the program as part of his family practice for several years states the rate of success is poor, the nature of the work often frustrating and the paperwork required under new rules is daunting. But the reward is the amazing transformation of those who are helped by methadone, says Dr. Jeff White. (“thetelegram”) Equally, a confident experience is expressed from a recovering addict himself, Jared stated to a Newfoundland based newspaper, The Compass that the methadone program had a super positive impact on his life. Going on to say in a separate interview with The Advertiser, that the first year everything went as well as it could have with him not doing any drugs. (“Advertiser”) This is just a few examples on how the methadone program has continued to play a positive impact on lives when given the
The program is conducted around shared experiences, strength and hope, through individuals who are recovering from their addictions.
THESIS STATEMENT: To investigate Methadone maintenance is found to be more effective in treating heroin addiction than 180 day detoxification. The objective is how methadone maintenance, a widely used but controversial method of weaning heroin addicts off the drug—with counseling has psychosocially enriched 180 day methadone assisted detoxification.
The opioid war can be resolved through the combination of counseling and extended addiction services for individual treatment plans. The program at Center for Behavioral Health Elizabethtown provides counseling and intensive therapy both during the addiction process and for up to a year for all patients after leaving the program (Zsigray 4). The treatment of the addict, and the mental illness and emotional disorders attached to addiction, can fix the epidemic. Patients who treat the addiction by use of corrective therapy are more likely to stay clean than patients who do not (Zsigray 3). Therapy and counseling are a vital part of the recovery process.
A considerable measure of heroin rehab treatment programs fizzle since they don't give all the advantages and administrations essential for full recuperation. The family and companions of the junkie need to stay around them and
As I previously stated, I started working with people in recovery over fifteen years ago. It was then I discovered that there are a lot more people that have problems in this area than we could ever imagine. Their faces are varied. The sucked-up junkie on skid row is not the only person needing help with this disorder. Today, people come from all walks of life; from a heroin addict in the gang-infested slums of South Central Los Angeles, to the polished preacher in Yukon, OK, that is secretly addicted to pain medication.

According to Rhodes (2013), as a member of the executive team, it is her job to facilitate and promote healthy relationships between workers, managers, and clients in fulfilling the goals set forth in the organization’s Mission and Vision Statements.

The recognition of stakeholders has already been accomplished and needs only a short review by the administration led by the Mayor. The process of developing a support and counseling system is already in place and just requires advertising. Some of the steps do not have an end date because training and advertisement of the program should never stop. The program is for current and future substance abusers. Substance abuse cannot be cured but it can be treated if people are aware of the ways to overcome it.
Throughout this ten weeks I have learned a lot, especially the skills in lad and clinical. I was really worried that med surge one was going to be hard and I will struggle throughout the course, but our instructor was really awesome she helped us out by teaching us the main key points and what we really needed to know for the upcoming quiz and skills. Safety and patient centered care Is what I would say that was more important throughout this course, the skills we were taught in lab also played an important role, because during clinical it made it easy to understand during our morning assessments, for example, knowing what was normal and abnormal and knowing how to perform our skill on real people with chronic complication. In the beginning
There are many contributing factors and political issues that address substance abuse. Throughout the years, many researchers have designed many interventions and social policies designed to treat people who have used, abused, and became addicted to substances. Today, there are many new studies that address substance abuse at the individual, group, family, and community or policy levels. Today, there are many services that are effective for decreasing recidivism in youth who have completed a substance abuse program. A substance abuse treatment program or center is the best way to treat individuals who have abused substances.
