3 easy steps towards solving the refugee crisis in the U.S The refugee crisis is not a new problem in our nation’s history , however it is a persistent one. Countless politicians have tried their hand at solving the problem with no avail, the issue still leaves our country heavily divided between two points; let them come or keep them out. However there may be a middle ground that we can pursue, something along the lines fortifying our defenses to try and keep potentially dangerous travelers away, and allow the freedom seekers a new home to enjoy. Our vetting process is the only thing that stands between American citizens and possibly imminent danger that is democracy defiling terrorists. However according to James Comey, the current director of the F.B.I our vetting process is inefficient. ( http://www.politifact.com) While it does manage to stop a large number of potential terrorists, however Comey stated he “couldn’t guarantee there would never be a problem and no terrorist could ever slip through the cracks.” This has caused an uproar in citizens who already were concerned about trusting refugees, and thus has led to a general anxiety around pre-existing …show more content…
According to the UN only 7 countries in the EU make up about 86% of refugee intake, the rest of the countries in the EU make up only a tiny 14% (https://data.unhcr.org). If we could negotiate with them to lessen the burden of the refugees, we are taking in perhaps we could provide more places for refugee families to go. This would put less pressure on the U.S to take in more refugees than we could handle and also show the rest of the world that we are actively looking for solutions for the problem instead of allowing the preconceived notion that we are taking a back seat to the
Loyalty programs include frequent flier miles or points systems associated with credit card offers that can be used only with the original company, creating a perceived loss or cost when switching to a competitor. In our present times national security became a priority. According to Tricia Escobedo, the last year’s terrorist attack in Paris on the night of November 13th left 129 people dead and hundreds wounded. The perpetrators were a mix of French nationals, and Syrian refugees that migrate to Europe due to the current open door policy for asylum seekers (1). We have a problem because our southern border is an open door for foreign terrorist to enter our country, due to the fact that the many people cross illegally. According to Stephen Dinan, nearly 800,000 people arrived in the past two years (1). I am veteran of the United States Army that deployed many times to Afghanistan, I lived in what we call forward operating bases, this forward operating bases had a secure perimeter due to the presence of physical barrier in this case a wall, in order to protect the people inside, and this solution work because it keep any threats away. We had 100 percent control of the people entering the Forward Operating Base, this kind of control reduced drastically any possibility that a foreign terrorist could enter inside the base, and cause severe casualties between the civilian and military personnel.
On September of 2015, the image of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi went viral. “The toddler’s lifeless body on a Turkish beach had reverberated across the globe” (Parkinson & George-Cosh, 2015). Aylan’s family had “fled the brutal civil war in their native Syria and only attempted the boat crossing after Canada denied their application of admission as refugees. The image led to an astonishing outpouring of support for Syrian refugees” (Hein & Niazi, 2016).
As previously established, the United States, a country with borders stretching over thousands of miles, lacks the capacity to fully observe and protect every corner of its territory. Some individuals seem unmoved by so many undocumented persons entering the country, stating that “borders should generally be open and… people should normally be free to leave their country of origin and settle in another…” (Higgins 528). However, these proponents of open borders neglect to recognize that as hundreds of illegal immigrants cross the borders, the issue of terrorism and overall safety becomes a major concern. Without undergoing the proper restrictions and precautions required to enter the United States, these illegal immigrants could potentially be a major threat to the country. So in order to decrease these Terrisits attacks in the United States, we need to strengthen the border security. Because of the events of 9/11 and the expanding population of displaced people, the legislature of the United States has consistently expanded its endeavors to upgrade national security over the previous years. The Secure Fence Act of 2006, marked into law by George W. Shrubbery, ordered the development of 652 miles of wall along our Southern fringes. What's more, as of February 2012, DHS has finished 651 miles of obstructions. As per DHS, the quantity of Border Patrol specialists
Many experts fear the heated debate over immigration may cause the world's most talented young people to avoid studying at American universities or moving to the United States. (CQ researcher, 27, 169-172.) There are students who travel with visa or temporary pass and being educated here is an advantage for most of them. Trump is trying to stop terrorism but he also holds back those who could have been something. Trump is concerned about his safety which is why the ban took place but on other hand Muslims are not the only terrorist to do treating, killing or bombing because the United States is full of those people. Why are our jails so packed and not enough space? Yes, Muslims have also caused much trouble, but is it really the Muslims we should be afraid of? Omar Aloha tour from Huffington Post said, "Furthermore, many Muslims have served and currently serve in the military to help protect this nation from terrorists." Trump is isolating people and creating a different image in others mind which all this ends up causing hatred, discrimination and bullying towards individuals. America will only be great again if there's peace, love, and people accept each other the way they
Thousands and thousands of refugees are risking their lives just to have a better life, and it’s OUR government that wants to keep them out, and forbid them from living the life they deserve. Help the U.S. let them into America, help let them into your life, and most importantly; help them realise that they have a purpose on this Earth too. Be their
The biggest problem we have especially recently, is the terrorist threat immigrants pose to the U.S. Enforcing border control minimizes the terrorist threat, but with everything going on right now, more and more refugees are accepted into our borders with the possibility of being a terrorist. Ever since 9/11 happened, security was greatly maximized to protect our country from another terrorist threat, but now we are dealing with ISIS. “A grim online warning from a self-described American jihadist
The United States of America has always been a refuge where poor and oppressed people from the far corners of the world can come to begin a new life. Much of the nation’s allure to prospective immigrants is in its promise of equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, or color. But the pressures of rising unemployment rates, congested cities, a crippled healthcare system, and national debt skyrocketing out of control have caused America to defend her borders against the influx of immigrants that threaten her already ailing economy. Still, despite all the heightened security measures incorporated in recent decades, a steady stream of immigrants continue to enter the country illegally. The Washington Times reports that there are
Can you imagine that your little town is being attacked or even a natural disaster may be occurring and you have nowhere to go? What would you do? How would you survive? You would have to flee your home away from the tragic disaster. You would have no place to call home and all you would have is the clothes on your back. Some in the process of leaving their town never get to see their family again and are lucky if they survive. This is why I believe that refugees should be allowed into the United States under certain conditions. These include having a positive background, being eligible for a job and respecting our nation as well as the people in it. As the US turns refugees away, thousands of lives are being taken away. We could easily help them by taking them into our country. Although some people that enter the country may commit crimes, that doesn’t mean we should turn all of them away. It would cause way more harm than good. Most crimes that happen in the United States are caused by the people that are US citizens rather than the refugees. All of these innocent lives are just being taken away and as many Americans sit back and do nothing about it. When we could be out there saving lives. Our country has to step in and do something about this serious situation. There are solutions we could use to solve these problems by making sure all people that enter this country are good at heart. Outside of very few exceptions our country is mainly made up of refugees and
In both of these articles they talk about refugees. Some families had adjusted a new life after all the bad things that happened to them. When the refugees were being sent away, they felt queasy about where they were going. All the refugees thought they were going to get a document and be U.S. citizens. But they weren't, they were being sent to internment camps. And had to live there.
A refugee is defined as an individual who has been forced to leave their country due to political or religious reasons, or due to threat of war or violence. There were 19.5 million refugees worldwide at the end of 2014, 14.4 million under the mandate of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), around 2.9 million more than in 2013. The other 5.1 million Palestinian refugees are registered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). With the displacement of so many people, it is difficult to find countries willing to accept all the refugees. There are over 125 different countries that currently host refugees, and with this commitment comes the responsibility of ensuring these refugees have access to
Freedom can be described as being spontaneous. A free act is unconditioned. Freedom is in fact, another kind of causality. The categorical imperative is something that has an end within itself. The categorical imperative can be achieved with a “free” act. The rationale that everything is causally determined says that morality is impossible and a sham. However, Kant argues that morality is somewhat possible if someone does a moral action in a “free,” unconditioned way. However, the freedom causality has never been observed because it is nearly impossible to understand someone’s motives. However, it could exist at least in theory.
The European refugee crisis began in 2015, when a rising number of refugees and migrants made the journey to the European Union (EU) to seek asylum. Refugees are people who have been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. According to the data that was shown in Business Standard and also confirmed by BBC News, the top ten nations which account for 90% of the sea arrivals in 2015 were: Syria (49%), Afghanistan (21%), Iraq (8%), Eritrea (4%), Pakistan, Nigeria and Somalia (2 %), Sudan, Gambia and Mali (1%). Also the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees confirms that the top three nationalities of refugees are Syrian, Afghan and Iraqi. Of the refugees and migrants arriving in Europe by sea in 2015, 58% were men, 17% women and 25% children. (Wright, 2015). According to Eurostat, EU member states received over 1.2 million first time asylum applications in 2015, 4 countries (Germany, Hungary, Sweden, and Austria) received around two-thirds, while Latvia received a very small part of them.
