Refugee Drying: Saving The Environment

Did you know that people can live forever? This is through the process of freeze drying. When a person gets freeze dried they get all of the water taken out of them then they are turned into a powder and put into a fertilizer that is used to plant a tree. Although most people see freeze drying bodies as unethical, it is actually more environmentally friendly, and it better memorializes the person being buried; therefore, there should be a movement from the more traditional post death practices and into a new, better practice.
Saving the environment is a huge because it means saving the place we call home. We can do this through freeze drying. In the book Stiff a scientist named Wiigh-Masak talks about how we help the earth when he says, “”When we are burning remains, we don’t give it back to the earth. We are built up from nature, and we have to give it back.”” (Roach 272). He is saying that all people are doing when they bury remains is sticking a big box in the ground that does absolutely nothing for the rest of time except rot. In the article A Burial Machine That Will Freeze Your Corpse, Vibrate It to Dust, and Turn It Into Soil by Eric Grundhauser it talks about this circle of life that a person becomes apart of when it says “The materials break down and become a nutrient-rich fertilizer, that in turn keeps the soil healthy so that new plants and animals (and people) can grow, die, and keep that circle of life spinning.”. It is through this circle of life that the person can be turned into a tree. When being turned into a tree it gives more meaning to that person's life by giving them new life. Through giving them more meaning to their death it better memorializes them than just a gravestone in a ground, the gravestone leaves them dead whereas the tree gives them new
