Do you have and idea of how many refugees are fleeing and seeking for a home right now? According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) the most recent updated number of Syrian refugees are around 4.8 million people, and it is a huge number of people that need help. The United States is a nation of immigrants with a lot of opportunities, and as a country of such success, they should be willing to accept some Syrian refugees, who are simply looking for a better life. Even though the United States is one of the most powerful country in the world, the number of Syrian refugees accepted in the country is less than many other developing countries. As stated by Ian Bremmer from Time Magazine in November, 2015, the American government has only accepted 2,290 of the 4.2 million refugees, and that is only 0.0005% of people seeking safety. Clearly the number of Syrian refugees welcomed in the country is not an acceptable amount, especially when it comes to a country as great as America. There are plenty of reasons why the U.S. should accept the Syrian refugees because they help the economic expansion, enforce the security of the country, and be an example to others as a good civilian not a terrorist. Firstly, the entering of the Syrian refugees in the United States is beneficial because they will have to work, and more people working surely means the economy growth. Once the Syrian refugees are accepted in the United States they have to look for a job
People all over the world have been asking themselves if it is right for their country to let in refugees from Syria. It is a question everybody fears from answering because of the consequences it may take. Several states in America have denied the entry because of security reasons and the over population. Even if there are several countries still refusing Syrians there are a few who are accepting them. Looking at some articles, I’ve seen differential opinions and one must read and understand why Syria refugees need a chance to be rescued from all the chaos and horror they’ve been through.
The idea of Syrian refugees emerging over to the United States seems to have been the talk for the past few years here in the United States. Although, over the years the argument of whether Syrian refugees should be granted the opportunity to enter the United States or to not to be able to, has always been a tough compromise. For countless of years refugees have been fleeing their homeland to find a new place to call home just to get away from the war. In spite of refugees fleeing the countries, many of the families are having a hard time trying to find new homes. However, the United States has to protect its country from the possible terrorists that the Syrians could bring with them if we allowed them to enter the United States. The civil war over in Syria has Syrians continuing to fight for their lives every day. Syrian refugees should not be allowed to enter the United States for the substantial amounts of attacks that those Syrians could pose.
And the United States themselves should be able to accept as much refugees as they can due to the fact that there are some Americans that would do anything to help refugees out. For example, I read a document from the Boston Globe, titled “An Outpouring of Support for Refugees” and basically talked about how Cheryl Hamilton from Lowell asked many people to help her out to support refugees arriving from Congo, Syria, Myanmar, and Iraq. Cheryl and others basically gathered a collection of kitchen supplies, winter coats, blankets, and much more, just to give them to the refugees that have arrived to a totally different place than what they were used to. And it also said: “Volunteers walked into the office and said, “I can’t stand watching the news anymore. How can I help?”” This shows that there are some Americans that have no problem with letting in refugees, and are willing to do anything for them, because it help seeing what type of conditions they were living in, as well as what is going on in their home countries. For example, there’s a photograph from Time which shows a young boy covered in blood, and says: “Footage shared online by the Aleppo Media Center is said to show a boy who was pulled from an airstrike on Aug. 17 in the Syrian city of Aleppo.” which I remember
Currently, the United States is very restrictive in its admission and resettlement of refugees. Since the ongoing Syrian war has resulted in the largest refugee crisis in history, this should not be the case. First, compared to other nations, the United States has had more experience resettling refugees. This experience would be highly
According to PNAS, The increase in refugee demand raises host-country incomes and spending which, in turn, generate additional rounds of spending impacts in the local economy...Refugees also stimulate trade between the local economy and the rest of the country. Ultimately, both the refugees and the United States would benefit by allowing them to find refuge in America. The refugees would find a life away from persecution and discrimination, and America’s economy would ultimately benefit from doing so.
The U.S need to also accept more refugees because of medical and mental assistance. As we can read in document #1 , a man kill his nephew because of all the traumas he has suffered. This show that this man needs mental health assistance and here we can provide with all the resources the U.S has. We can also connect this with document #2 because of the help that the little boy awaiting help. The U.S government should be like German chancellor Angela Merkel, who is admitting more refugees without worrying about the attacks that happen, and helping those who she can help and give them assistance. No everyone is the same, and we know there were attacks, but, those attacks where no most of it from refugees.
The debate about letting Syrian Refugees into America has been a heavily debated topic in the last year. One surprising fact is that, ‘The third largest city in the country of Jordan, Za’atari is just a refugee camp filled with Syrians escaping the Syrian Civil War and the population of Za’atari of 90,000.’ Syrians should be let into our county because: we have been letting Syrian Refugees into our country a very few have been of them have been radicalized and carried out terrorist attacks on our country, U.S. states cannot legally reject and deport Syrian Refugees coming here to seek refuge without the approval of the federal government, and not all the Syrian Refugees fit the supposedly true stereotypes
Many U.S. citizens have no problem with Syrian refugees coming to America. According to both “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” and “Our Responsibility to Refugees”, The authors feel that The people of the United States are turning their backs on the refugees. In “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” the author says, “The United States has resettled over three million refugees, offering victims of persecution and conflict the opportunity to build a new life. Refugee resettlement is unequivocally safe. It would be wrong, both morally and politically, to curtail Syrian refugee resettlement, and why it is in fact both ethically imperative and politically expedient to instead expand U.S. commitment to refugee resettlement” (Long). This author sees nothing to fear from refugees. Furthermore, the writer of “Our Responsibility to Refugees” states, “The U.S. can do more and we must. Since 2011, more than 4.2 million Syrians have been displaced by war and violence, and fewer than 3,000 of them have resettled in the U.S. President Barack Obama has committed to resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees in the U.S. His administration needs to
It is no surprise that America has a lot of immigrants in the country, approximately 61 million (newsmax). However, America has been letting refugees in the country since World War II, saying: “Since World War II, the United States has accepted millions of refugees fleeing communism and totalitarianism around the world” (Bier). Now this can come into shock to many people who did not know this, and it should be. Why ban some immigrants/refugees now when we have been letting them in for many years. Many months before Trump was president, the Obama administration had successfully brought more than 10,000 Syrian refugees, saying: “More recently, the ongoing conflict in Syria has displaced six-in-ten Syrians, or 12.5 million, from their homes, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of global refugee data. In fiscal 2016, the Obama administration resettled 12,587 Syrian refugees, more than 20% above the original target” (Krogstad). Now this was before Trump banned refugees from Syria to come to America, which really shows you that we have been doing this time, and this was very normal. The Obama administration wanted to keep going into letting Syrian refugees in, but Trump is stopping them, saying: ‘The policies of the incoming Trump administration may affect the flow of refugees into the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has said he backs “extreme
The United States should allow the Syrian refugees into the country because we can benefit from it. The intelligence and work strategy of the Syrian refugees can be a great asset to our work field since a lot of Americans are unmotivated and uneducated. In the article Ailing Vermont, it states that “ I saw an opportunity to grow our population, bring in individuals, families with a strong work ethic, who were fleeing for their lives and looking to rebuild their shattered lives.” This evidence from a reliable source informs us that people from Syria have a good work ethic which can benefit us in many positive ways. To conclude, the united states should allow Syrian refugees into the country because they can bring a new and
Many people believe that the United States should not let Syrian refugees into the United States to escape war would damage the country’s safety and way of life, but the U.S. should allow them in because it provides these immigrants such as humanitarian aid, safer families, a well- rounded education, and a strengthened workforce. As the Syrian Civil War rages, ISIS bombs the Middle East, and Russia targets airstrikes, thousands of Syrian refugees flee their home and country with their lives. Children cannot go to school and parents are running out of money. They need aid, but in the war-torn cities there is little help that these people can find. Separated from their jobs, livelihood, and families, they can
We should take in more Syrian refugees because they can boost our economy. Many of the Syrian refugees will earn low pay here in the United States but an influx of lower skilled workers could actually help Americans with less skills. More people equals more production, which means more jobs to meet the demand of production. Also because these workers will have different skills than most Americans, they won’t compete much with Americans buy may actually complement us (Nowrasteh). The refugees will even be able to pay taxes, giving a slight break on small communities. Examples of refugees’ positive effect on the economy are all around us like in Turkey, were the Turkish government has spent roughly $5.72 billion to feed and shelter Syrian refugees, who number 2.2 million in the country. But despite the apparent economic
At the moment, Syrian refugees are being subjected to the most precautionary methods when entering the country (Text 3). The Syrians are trying to escape the many violations they are faced with. In Syria, there are many bombings that are killing innocent people. Using precautionary methods based on race shows that America is well on their way to banning the refugees from entering the US. While Americans might think that using precautionary action is the best, they are supporting an unethical act. However, it is worse because they can do something to stop it, yet they refuse. Syrians are running from powerful individuals who have taken their rights, seeking asylum in America but they are almost treated the same because they are not trusted. If America were to ban immigrants from entering the US then they might be repeating history. During the 1940s, Hitler took it upon himself to purify Germany of Jews (Text 2). The action of Hitler led to a world War because of the unethical actions he took to get what he wanted. The fear of many Americans are holding them back from helping innocent children and women. If Americans can look past the fear of having their country destroyed by the refugees then they would be helping alot of people. Americans can provide a safe haven for the refugees but they are too afraid to allow
“I pray for the day when the children of Syria wake up to the sounds of birds not bombs” (Syrian quotes pintrest.org). Syrian refugees are escaping from the destroyed countries. In addition, Syrian refugees are leaving there homes that were torn down by war. However, other countries don’t agree with the idea that people want refugees to enter America. Refugees have to be always accepted because of the many hardships they are facing and it has been the American tradition for
Peter T. King once stated, “America has a long and proud history of providing safe harbor for refugees. We must continue to do so, but in a way that keeps America safe.” Therefore Americans have an obligation to stay close to their roots and accept refugees and immigrants into the country while making sure we are still protected. As a country the United States has to take in more refugees because they have the necessary money, the land, and a moral obligation to help.
