Golf is a game played in an open field, consisting of one player or more, where the golfer tries to hit the ball with enough accuracy and precision into a hole with as less hits as possible. This obviously requires a lot of practice and patience to master and dominate the sport golf. Calculate the distance between you and the hole, where to hit the ball, how hard, where to hit it, where is it going to land, etc. How hard should I hit it? Where is it going to land? This is where force comes into play. A force is a push or a pull, and gravity is the force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth. What goes up, must go down, right? Two types of forces are in golf, gravitational force and frictional force. Golfers must try to calculate …show more content…
Frictional force is the force that acts between two surfaces that are moving past one another, in this case, the ball and the small hills of soil. As I said before, after gravitational force is applied, frictional force come into play. Golfers must also reckon the direction in which the ball might roll too, depending on the curve of the hill. If the ball lands on top of the hill, then it will roll downhill if the curve is left or right. This force also affects the golfer because the ball may land right next to the hole, but is it land too close to the hole, the ball might just roll over its destination, meaning it’s going to take on more hit which might cost the golfer his trophy. Not only does the golfer depend on calculation and all that stuff, but also if his equipment is in good shape and his clothing is comfortable enough to move his torso comfortably. Golfers wear special types of shoes with a spike attached to the sole (bottom of the …show more content…
The golfer’s clothing like shirts, pants, socks, etc. must be cozy and flexible so that it doesn’t mess with the golfer while he is about to swing, don’t forget about the clothing being fashionable. The equipment golfers use is his trusty golf club, the golf ball, tee (rookies only), and a golf bag. Personally, I don’t find that equipment matters too much to the player. As long as his equipment is usable, it should work perfectly. It’s not the horse, it’s the rider. You can have the best golf club with the best golf ball that are high quality, but if you don’t practice, you won’t be able to do much with it. Now that we are done with forces and clothing, let’s talk about what did we learn about forces in golf. We have definitely learned that golf isn’t just about hitting the ball and just hope for the best, golfers also think about force, even if you’re a golfer, you do consider force in one way or another. The role they play is huge. The explanation why they’re important is explained already, you just have to go back and read again. Phhhew! This is a long research and explanation. Should I tell you an oddity I found out while doing this research? Yeah, why
“As one might expect, the most energy was expended while walking with a bag (721 calories burned for nine holes). But walking with a push cart was not far behind (718). Walking with a caddie burned 621 calories for nine holes, and riding in a cart still burned 411 calories on average.” While you can choose to run, from hole to hole, most people don’t enjoy doing that. Instead, they have a golf cart drive them around, so really the only fitness they gain is when they swing the club in the air or if the day is really hot and making them sweat no matter what. Another thing to add is how much balls they lose and how dangerous it can be. “Each year, nearly 40,000 golfers are admitted to emergency rooms after being injured at play, most by errant golf balls and flying club heads.” If you swing the club wrong, you could possibly pull something and damage yourself to where you couldn't even play again. You could also hurt a bystander just from swinging. Although people are usually smart enough to stay away the club could fly out of the golf player’s hand or someone could be dumb enough to run out there and get hit. “It is also estimated 300 million balls are lost or discarded in the United States alone, every year. It seems the simple plastic golf ball is increasingly becoming a major litter problem.” Out of the
Conclusion: I. Summary of Main Points: Once again, the basic steps of the golf swing are: address, backswing, downswing, impact and follow through. II. Vivid Ending: After learning about the golf swing today, I hope to see some of you at the local golf courses getting lessons. Golf is a fun and addictive game and the more you play, the better you’ll
The sport that I have dedicated the most time to, golf, has become a part of me—in my soul. To me, golf is more than a sport; it is a lifelong journey of training to temper myself both mentally and physically. Playing golf opens my eyes to observe the world in a unique way, and it lets me taste the bliss of striving. The Georgia State Golf Championship in my sophomore year was one of the most memorable experiences that influenced me, not only by contributing to my interest in golf, but also by building my character and teaching me life lessons. It did not push me to the road of being a professional golfer, but it instilled the spirits of a golfer within me.
Relate topic to audience: As we get older, we get less active and many people cannot play physical sports or don’t have that stamina that we have at our age to run around and do whatever. Learning a proper golf swing is the stepping stool in the golf world and the beginning of getting into a game that can teach you patience, manners, and relieve your stress.
Fourteen clubs - four wedges, six irons, a rescue, a three wood, a driver, and a putter - this is golf. It is one of the most mentally challenging sports in the world. It can fool beginners who are deceived by its simplicity. Golf is often underestimated by those who have never attempted to play the sport. While it has often been known as a “rich man’s” sport, in recent years this perception has begun to change. There are a number of other generalizations made when talking about golf, yet these are most always from those who have never experienced, played, or followed the game. One should question how a critic with no knowledge of the activity could state whether or not golf should be considered a sport. Golf is a sport, regardless of what any critic has to say. Studies and experimentation, along with the experience itself, reveal all of the athletic aspects that make golf better than most sports.
With the new style of clubs came a new set of challenges. The more mass a club has, the more force is needed to swing the club (chevronstemzone). Mass is often confused with weight. They are not the same. Mass is defined as being the, “the property of matter that measures its resistance to acceleration” by dictionary.com. On the other hand dictionary.com defines weight as being, “the force that gravitation exerts upon a body”. Mass is essential to a golf club in all aspects. The more mass a club has, the more force the user will be able to exert with the club (chevronstemzone).
A Mooc is a massive open online course, a common course would last around 6 to 10 weeks. You can take all types of college courses for free, the only downside is that It’s creditless. I have been researching three students named Gallagher, Mendoza, and Gregory. By examining Gallagher’s creativity, eagerness to learn, and his confidence, it is clear that he is the best candidate for a MOOC.
Imagine the sun bursting through the trees for the first time of the new day, the smell of freshly cut grass still potent to your nose as you tee the ball up for a round of golf in the cool mist of a spring morning. "That is what brings you back every time, the smell of the air, the coolness of the whether and the beautiful surroundings that make every shot enjoyable." (Suess, PI) This is the game of golf in its finest and most exquisite time to many people and many people it has touched in its long history. Golf is a lifestyle and not just games to people that are avid in playing. The game of golf has a history that is rich in technological advances and personal accomplishments, which through time has shown to shape
It is unknown when the game of golf originated, but it is believed that people began playing in Europe during the middle ages. In the United States, golf was a sport primarily played by the wealthy individuals until tournaments began being televised. Since then, golf has grown to be a very lucrative industry with over 27 million golfers nationwide by the end of the 1990’s. “Competition in the Golf Equipment Industry,” a case study written by John E. Gamble of the University of South Alabama, is an overview of the problems currently facing major companies in the golf equipment industry: technological limitations (due to golf’s governing organizations), a decline in the number of golfers,
As anyone who has played a round of golf will attest to, the sport is based around many fundamental principals of physics. These basic laws are involved with every aspect of the game from how a player swings the club to how the ball moves through the air on its way toward the pin. It is the challenge that physics presents to the golfer that has allowed the game, and equipment used, to develop so drastically over the past one hundred years. The first golf balls used were called featheries. They were made with a horsehide cover packed with wet goose feathers. When the balls dried they became extremely hard. The major flaw with the featheries was that they could not be used when the conditions were wet because they
To me, a very important question is, “How traditional can we keep the game of golf?” The game is evolving at every aspect. They are evolving the golf ball and making it better by making it fly longer in the air and landing softer on the greens. Along with the ball, the clubs are being made better and better making the ball go farther sometimes by even 50 yards. Each year, the irons are being made with better grooves which make the ball come off the club better and farther. While golf equipment is changing, the rules of golf are not. The rules of golf have been here since it’s existence. Another question that concerns me is, “Why can the equipment change in golf, but not the rules?” Throughout the years golf has changed in the aspect of equipment but not the rules.
Also there are rangefinders and it is where you can find how far away is the hole. There is even watches that can tell you the distance from a hole is and there is apps on phones which you can use to show the distance. Also there are more comfortable golf shoes and golf clubs. There are even now golf club fittings. At a golf club fitting they measure you to figure what is the best club for you golf game.
In most cases, there is a flat green path between the hole and the player, but there has yet to be a golfer proficient enough to utilize that fairway every time, requiring the player to cope with the treacherous obstacles that lie in wait for every errant shot.
For hundreds of years, golf has been an extremely popular and growing sport all around the world. Looking where golf is now, it is growing rapidly from the young to the elder population. The first round of gold was first played in the 15th century off the coast of Scotland, but it did not start to be played until around 1755. The standard rules of golf were written by a group of Edinburgh golfers. Today, people of the US, Scotland, and England, have been drawn to the game because it is fun, challenging, and hardly any athletic ability at all is required for amateurs. In breaking down the game, geometry plays a major
Many people take up Golf thinking that it is easy, after all, how hard can it be to hit a little white ball with a stick? This thinking evaporates the first time they step onto a driving range and attempt to hit that little white ball. Golf is not easy by any stretch of the imagination. My experience with golf began in May of 2005 when friends came to stay with us; my wife informed me that I would have to take Roy, her friend’s husband Golfing. I had not been to a driving range (since I was in my teens) and I had never played golf on a course before. It was quite an experience; the weather was cold, rainy and nasty the three times we played while they where here, the game hooked me badly, even with the bad shots and the nasty weather.
