A Theory of Current Interest Relational theory of furlough correlates theoretical constructs of WLOC, job satisfaction, and performance as it relates to work productivity for furloughed contractors. Gay and Weaver (2011) and Gelso (2006) mentioned that descriptive, explanatory, and relational are types of theories use in literature. However, relational theory of furlough is more adequately connected to my current interest. Relational theory of furlough can be viewed as the relationship between furlough process and work productivity and the relationship between furloughed contractors and their WLOC, job satisfaction, and performance. When contractors realize that their organization is shifting from growth to decline because of furlough or a potential government shutdown, the contractors’ ability to control (external WLOC) work-relating situation drops (Lee & Sanders, 2013). The loss of interest and focus (internal WLOC) on service or work decreases work outputs and productivity (Badiru, 2014). Lee and Sanders (2013) acknowledged Cameron (1994) 's survey on senior managers working in downsized firms, where 74% of respondents noted a reduction in morale, trust, and work productivity. Non-excepted contractors are furloughed, but some are forced to work during the furlough period. This forced to work increase work stressors and negatively affects workers’ satisfaction, adjustment, and performance. Relational theory of furlough, not as a founder or classic perspective is the catalyst that explains the relationship of furlough amongst work satisfaction, work adjustment, and work performance. These work contexts are critical towards contractors’ job performance but may not be connected to life satisfaction or work continuation following furlough days. In
