The son however is the ‘faith’ within the story. He is the hope for a better future. The son is more trusting towards others and therefore becomes upset and quiet when his father doesn’t agree with him. “I’m afraid for that little boy” – The son has never seen another young boy and is frightened for him but his father shrugs off his pleas to help him and says “I know but he’ll be alright”. Towards the end of the book it appears that the father and his son become distant to each other due to their diverse personalities. It could however be seen that the son is a lot more knowledgeable about dangers and therefore does not need his father as much.

Although the relationship between a father and son should be something strong, manly, and unbreakable it proves to not hold true in either work. Most young men seek approval from their father as some type of validation. Both boys at a young age realized that the relationship between father and son was not going to have that validation that many young men look for. For example in The Kite Runner Amir constantly looks for Baba to pay attention to him and his love for books and writing, but Baba sees this as a defect in Amir. Baba thinks this is making Amir seem weak or cowardly. In this quote "Sometimes I look out this window and I see him playing on the street with the neighborhood boys. Relationships with family members often help one persevere through the hard times and experiences of life. In Elie Wiesel’s memoir Night, Elie is faced with many challenges to overcome along the side of his father as they experience the atrocities of the Holocaust. The father/son relationships between Elie and others he encountered often determined their survival through this traumatic event.

Nerburn writes about how hard it is to be an eligible father .He proposes the question, “Do people think their father is the person who is able to provide them a lot of guidance or help? In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem and Scout live with their father, Atticus, who is a lawyer, and regard him as an excellent example. However, Scout and Jem don’t value Atticus as a father with full diligence because he is elder than most of other students’ father and he is not able to do any sports. Due to the accident with the mad dog, atticus’s educations and the case of Tom Robinson, Jem and Scout come to understand, respect, and finally admire their father.

Every Father plays a symbolic role in another child’s life, he can always be there for you and provide you with what you need and sometimes what you want. A father can be there for you to teach you the rights and the wrongs in life, even though sometimes you don’t want to believe he’s right. A father can teach you how to become a man and teach you to become an athlete if you choose to be one, he will teach you self-discipline and do everything in his power to make sure you will be successful in what you want to do. Some people, unfortunately do not have a father who can do all of these things for whatever the reason may be. Luckily I was blessed with a father who could do all these things and end up becoming my biggest influence in life and the game of baseball.

When individuals are put into a very tough situation to choose between love or violence, loving bonds are put to the test to see if they can survive.

The portrayal between, Willie and Troy as fathers, has had an impact in the development of their sons differently. Firstly, Willie has always had high hopes in his older son, Biff. Willie believed that in raising Biff, he will one day be successful, and ambitious. However, it is a pity that it never turned out that way. In fact, throughout the story, Biff reveals that he is not ambitious. “Hap, the trouble is we weren’t brought up to grub for money. I don’t know how to do it.” (Gioia, 2010) It is a shame that Willie is a hardworking man who dreams in success and Biff was not born with equal desire. It would not be a surprise if Willie felt heartbreak; to be unable to set an example for his son Biff to follow. On the other hand, Troy could be described as a character that is selfish. Throughout the story, “Fences” Troy reveals his selfishness when interfering with Cory’s potential in football, and telling him that working is more important. “You go on down there to that A&P and see if you can get your job back. If you can’t do both…then you quit the football team.” (Gioia, 2010) Undoubtedly, Troy’s interest is more concentrated in ensuring that the bills get paid, than to agree with Cory playing football. Furthermore Troy wants Cory to maintain that job because

A father can be a son’s highest goal or lowest point, and it is all about how the father treats the son. In Li-Young Lee’s “Mnemonic,” Lee acknowledges his shortcomings that his father would not have been approved of. In Langston Hughes’s “Mulatto,” the father neglects his son and ignores his abuse of the mother. In James Masao Mitsui’s poem “Because of My Father’s Job,” the father has influenced the author’s life and how he sees himself. In these principle poems, each father takes a different approach to being a father. One of them holds himself highly. Another one neglects his responsibilities. The final one impacts the son’s entire life. A father is a son’s first role model, and the template in which the son is built after, but sometimes that template is not to the son’s liking.

Father and son relationships are the most important type of relationship. Fathers heavily influence their children especially sons, thus making the relevant. In the book Things Fall Apart there are two father son relationships, Unoka and Okonkwo and Okonkwo and Nwoye. These relationships are not ideal and each father has a different relation with their son. These relationships cause many things such as loathing of one's father, and rebelling. Rebelling for the sons is not a phase, but a lifetime of rebellion. Father son relationships in the book Things Fall Apart are defined by the loathing of one’s father, causing a rebellion leading the sons to be complete opposites of their father.

Father son relationships are different in every situation. A fathers influence is a crucial part of the child’s development. Some get along tremendously. Others can be burdensome and challenging. In the novel The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini a fathers influence on his child is shown numerous times. A fathers job is to mold his son into a true man who will go on in life to be respected. In the novel, Baba and Amir and Ali and Hassan are the two preeminent father son relationships shown. The two relationships show how a fathers influence is important. The two relationships may have seemed similar throughout the novel but there evident differences.

It is said that a father and son’s bond is unbreakable, that one’s father is his first hero. Small moments between a father and his son can not only shape their character, but also their relationship. This is also portrayed throughout the novel, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, where the miscommunications and bonds between a father and his son and how this can change one’s character completely. Hosseini uses this novel to further demonstrate that even though a relationship between a father and his son may start off rough, through time and progression, the broken bond between a father and a son may be able to be recovered. This is demonstrated when Baba and Amir are not able to connect and have the father-son bond they need, when this bond is finally gained, and when Baba passes away.

Thus, a wide definition is given to encompass the numerous acts of harm occurring throughout the novel. Ken’s father is a man instilled with traditional values and beliefs. Therefore, strength and fearlessness are expected to be in Ken to make him tough and prepared to face the world. The reader witnesses these notions take root and unfurl into his father’s ideas of the epitome of hegemonic masculinity. Consequently, this essay will analyse the connection between Ken Hideyoshi and his father as it progresses throughout the novel by looking at how socialisation, hegemonic masculinity and family violence lead impressionable people into deviant lifestyles.
