Each year there are more than three million reports of child abuse made in the US which involves more than six million children. Sexual child abuse is a rapidly growing problem in America. Sexual child abuse is no longer something kept behind closed doors. Since child abuse involves millions of children it is a major problem. The proposal of the research is to explore the relationship between male childhood sexual victimization and sexual offending in adulthood. The research will compose using two hundred male inmates to compare the relationship between male childhood sexual victimization and sexually offending in adulthood. Researchers have examined whether there is a relationship between male childhood sexual victimization and sexual offending in adulthood and as such this literature review examines extant research on this question. The hypothesis of this review is if there is a relationship between male childhood sexual victimization and sexual offending in adulthood. The issue to be examined in light of this hypothesis are defining what is sexual child abuse, victim/perpetrator characteristics, abuse characteristics regarding family and history of sexual abuse. The literature examined in this review is wholly research based and focuses on where there is a relationship between male childhood sexual victimization and sexual offend in adulthood. Literature Review SEXUAL CHILD ABUSE DEFINITIONAL ISSUES In order to examine where there is a relationship between male childhood sexual victimization and sexual offending in adulthood we need to know the operational definitions. Sexual child abuse has three portions of it which would include touching, sexual offenses (assault), non-touching, sexual offenses (sexual grooming) and sexual exploitation. Touching sexual (assault) offenses would include: fondling, making a child touch an adult’s sexual organs, and penetrating a child’s vagina or anus no matter how slight with a penis or any object that doesn’t have a valid medical purpose.
