Relationship Between Patient Implementation And Cost Results Of Hospitals

1017 Words5 Pages
Two studies, one seeks to conclude whether size and proprietorship make a dissimilarity in the effectiveness and cost results of hospitals, the second study takes a look at the relationship between patient fulfilment and inpatient admittances in critical hospitals. The second study also seeks to know the relationship between patient fulfilment and inpatient charges and how they differ amongst teaching and nonteaching hospitals. When one compares the two, there are some differences and similarities in the tools, but both mark that finances make a difference in patient satisfaction, and in both size and ownership. Because both studies conclude that finances make a difference let’s see how the studies arrive to this conclusion. Both Coyne and…show more content…
This study is built on the limited amount of literature on patient satisfaction and volume of admissions (Messina et al., 2009). Coyne et al. and Messina et al. independent variable types is categorical. Messina et al. dependent variable is that of patient satisfaction which its measurements are through volume of admission, while Coyne et al, is size and ownership structure, with the dependent variable being cost and efficiency running continuous. The performing tools in the Coyne et al. study are the Two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), on the other hand Messina et al. a descriptive analysis in the form of frequencies, means, medians, and standard deviations as well as skewness and kurtosis (p.182). The sample size of Messina et al is 96, while Coyne et al. is 95. Interestingly enough, Messina et al chose hospitals in their state, with the exception of investor owned hospitals, while Coyne et al. hospitals are not-for-profit and government-owned. Now, that we know a little about the studies in both Messina et al. and Coyne et al, let’s check for validity and reliability. Validity of Both Studies Reliability and validity is essential in research of this sort. Looking at Messina et al. validity is kept throughout the study. How can one say this, well the questionnaire that the study uses is modified ever so often to maintain integrity and validity. Then to go further in assuring the validity remains and not deteriorate the questionnaire is put through yet
