Religion Must Be Abandoned to Ensure Global Stability There are approximately twenty major religions in the world, and 4,200 smaller ones within them. For most, religion is an important part of life and it would be nearly impossible to abandon all these religions without a dispute. While some people may agree that religion must be abandoned to ensure global stability, abolishing religion would cause more conflict; and religion is something that defines individuals and is highly valued as it is a foundation of societies.
Many people believe that war is always caused from religious differences and if there was no religion, the violence in the world would be demolished. War may cause death tolls to rise in countries, and history has shown that religion has been a factor that causes countries to go to war. Europe has had many wars about religion for instance. Consequently, nearly all of Europe was, at one point or another, engaged in the wars of religion” (World Encyclopedia 725). Everyone here had the “I’m right, you’re wrong” mentality and this resulted in a country filled with power hungry citizens who all wanted their religion to be the one and only.
