Religious Views of Abortion Throughout many years, abortion has been a topic of wide discussion and multiple different views. By definition abortion is “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy”. The two most commonly used phrases or titles that people use to describe their view on abortion would be: “pro-life” or “pro-choice”. Those considered pro-life believe that “human life is created at the moment of fertilization and is, thus, entitled to the same legal protections as any other human being” (Crutcher, 2016). They believe that life is much more important especially in cases like abortion and euthanasia. For those that are pro-choice, believe that it is the choice …show more content…
In 1968, the National Conference of Catholic Bishops started or founded a movement for the Right to Life. In most cases, many people turn towards the catholic view of abortion for answers. The Roman Catholic Church has always viewed abortion as a sin and has always constantly condemned the practices of abortion. Like many religions, Catholics believe that life is sacred and should be taken care of. It has always been an issue and has been talked about in the catholic religion since the beginning of time. Like all of the major religions of the world, they believe that God has given humans their life to take care of it and be a reflection of him and to take care of others. Some could even argue that the Catholic Church takes more care for the child than the mother, but in some cases this is not true at all. If the mother’s life is in danger during the pregnancy, it will be okay to undergo abortion. Catholics consider abortion to be murder because the soul is now in the child. They have been teaching that abortion is always evil and a sin for a very long time. The Roman Catholic view on abortion is definitely seen as a more opened view and taking more inconsideration compared to …show more content…
From their teachings to their mediation, it has always taught or practiced peace. Just like the religions mentioned above, Hindus oppose abortion. Even from the Hindu scriptures mention abortion, but it is more commonly referred to as “garha- batta” also known as “womb- killing”. In India they have specific laws that state if the mother is in any harm or any risks that could cause her life-threatening issues during up to twenty weeks of her pregnancy, then abortion can be performed. A Hindu believes in choosing and deciding the practice that will cause no harm to the mother, unborn child, and to the society. The main teaching of Hinduism is “ahisma” or non- violence. Basically, Hindus believe that violence does not solve anything, which is very true. Abortion can be seen as harm to the mother and of course to the fetus. Considering that is it practically murder, you can definitely see the reason why they are opposed to it. Even the most historical and inspirational Hindu Gandhi, who is a non-violence activist, has said: “It seems to me as clear as daylight that abortion would be a crime”. Looking back at the Hindu scriptures, it is very clear to see that this issue has been mentioned before. A Hindu text has even compared abortion as similar to killing a priest. Another text also said that committing abortion can be compared to killing one's parents. There is an issue in India where the
In our society, abortion has been a controversial topic that has led some people to take sides on the matter. These two opposing sides (pro-life and pro-choice) fight for their moral and political stance of abortion; raising the questions if abortion is morally right or whether it should be made illegal. Pro-choice activists argue that women should have a right to choose abortion and cling to the idea of freedom, whereas
The issue of Abortions has been a controversy for years now. There are two main groups for this problem, Pro-Life, and Pro-Choice. Pro-Life supports the human rights of life should be embraced, by religion and ethics. Pro-choice is when someone wants to make this choice without no remorse of human life, but because someone wants no part of it raising one.
Abortion is one of those heavy topics that either side can be right or wrong. Abortion mostly gets divided into two sides; Pro-Life or Pro-choice. On the side of Pro- life a person believes that the government has an obligation to preserve all human life, regardless of intent, viability, or quality of life concerns. On the side pro-choice a person believes that individuals have unlimited autonomy with respect to their own reproductive systems as long as they do not breach the autonomy of others. (Head)
The issue of abortion has always been a controversial one for citizens of the United States. Abortion is the practice of terminating a pregnancy after the embryo has been planted in the uterus (Abortion). An individual’s stance on this controversial issue categorizes them into one of two very different groups. An individual who feels that a woman should not have an abortion- due to moral or religious views- is said to be “pro-life”. Coincidently, those who feel that a woman should have the right to choose abortion are said to be “pro-choice”. “Pro-life” supporters point to the practice of abortion as an immoral one. Supporters state abortion is immoral because it takes away the rights of the unborn fetus, since activists consider human
Nowadays, in this world, there are a lot of problems that can make tremendous conflicts for human beings. They are very complicated and bring a lot of argument and nobody knows what the exact answer is. They also have pros and cons. One of the most complex problems is abortion. This is due to moral and ethical values which we all have. The majority of us are Christians or are brought up in that kind of ambiance which means that as small children we were taught values that are based on the bible such as that famous phrase “Thou shall not kill”. This phrase relates to this topic because an abortion is the murder of a human being.
This topic is also argued in different religions. The Catholic Church believes that abortion is murder and no person born or unborn should be unwillingly killed. Murder is against the Ten Commandments and a serious crime. They believe that abortion is wrong and just as bad as murder. Many Catholic protest abortion by holding protests outside of abortion clinics.
The controversy surrounding abortion has been long debated since the Roe v Wade case (1973) as pro-life advocates and pro-choice advocates go neck to neck on whether the process should be banned or remain legal. According to APA (American Psychological Association), abortion is the “medical or surgical termination of a pregnancy and is one of the oldest, most common and most controversial medical procedures”. To be Pro-Life means to be against the termination of a fetus; one who is not in favor of the practice. Pro-life advocates believe a woman should continue the pregnancy and deliver the baby no matter the circumstance. Pro-choice represents those who believe the woman deserves a choice to carry the baby or have an abortion. Although the 1973 Roe vs Wade case legalized abortion, abortion is still currently a much heated debate in America as the surgical procedure is possibly on the verge of becoming illegalized. However, abortion should definitely remain legal for various reasons such as individual freedom, victim protection, life opportunities, failed contraception, and it is not fair for the government to make such crucial decisions for a woman’s life.
Out of all modern social controversies, perhaps the most heated controversy is that of abortion. In today’s society you are either a Pro-life or a Pro-choice, there is not a middle ground. Pro-life are individuals who believe abortion is immoral and should be stop for the wellbeing of women and unborn babies. In contrast, the Pro-choice individuals do not necessarily promote abortion, they just believe women should be the ones to make decisions over their bodies and health. Although the two main sides of the abortion debate have concerns for human life, pro-life activists worries more about the fetus and morals, a clear difference from the pro-choice that worries more for the women and their rights. Based on the points I explored, the pro-choice arguments are stronger than pro-life arguments. Most of both groups arguments comes from peer-reviewed researches from well-known sources to support each individual concept. Effects on women,socio-politics, and fetus are some of the main point of conflicts between the pro-life and pro-choice advocates.
Abortion is one of the most controversial topics of all times. Abortions is defined as the termination of a pregnancy before birth ending in the death of an embryo or fetus. When abortion happens naturally it is called a miscarriage, but when a medical procedure is used to end the pregnancy it is referred to as abortion. (Roberts) People that support women having the legal right to make choices about their reproductive health care are referred to as pro-choice. The term pro-life is used to refer to the people that believe women do not have the right to choose whether or not to continue their pregnancy and they believe abortion is wrong.(Ric) The real issue in this debate is whether or not tighter abortion laws and regulations decrease abortion rates.
One of the most controversial topics in America is abortion. In medical terms, “an abortion is the premature exit of the products of conception (the fetus, fetal membranes, and placenta) from the uterus” (Medicine Net). All around the world, the practice of abortions has been widely used to control a woman’s reproduction. The polarizing, emotional debate on abortion has been an ongoing issue that still exists today. People’s different perspectives and opinion on whether or not abortion is immoral continue to divide America into two groups: “Pro-choice” and “Pro-life”. However, pro-life advocates tend to focus more on the fetus rather than how abortion and programs have actually benefited the mother and families. There is hypocrisy in people who identify themselves as “pro-life” and the word itself can be misleading as it does not align with the true values of protecting a life.
Abortion divides many Americans, it is one of the many controversial issue in today’s society. There are two major viewpoints that receive the most attention. One point of view is pro-life which is the belief women should not abort a human life. On the other side, is pro-choice which is the belief women may decide whether to carry a baby to full term or abort it. Abortion is known as the act of removing a human embryo or fetus from the uterus of a pregnant woman prior to the completion of the full term of pregnancy. There are very strong opinions for and against this issue, but no one can deny the vast gray area of abortion. Not everyone falls into the specific camp of pro-life or pro-choice. Many Americans find a comfort level in the gray area where there are restrictions, but abortion is not illegal. 1 A person’s stance on the situation is often determined by how they view the fetus: a part of the mother’s body or as a human being.
The argument of abortion has been raging since the Supreme Court case, Roe vs. Wade, in 1973. This court case has divided the country into two factions: pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-life advocates argue that abortions are murder and extreme levels of child abuse. While pro-choice advocates believe abortions are a justifiable means to end pregnancies. The pro-choice argument is that the fetus is not yet a human being and its rights should not override that of the mother’s.
One of the toughest issues to debate in our world today is abortion. Abortion is the induced termination of pregnancy before the fetus can survive. Nowadays, abortion affects all people, not just the mother and the baby. There are moral, ethical, health-related, political, and religious aspects that affect how people feel towards abortion. By looking at religion and its views, one can see just how hard it would be to argue in the pro-choice position of this debate.
God, God has a purpose for every life and so if you destroy a life how
Once again it is necessary to state that most of the religious opinions are based on when human life begins. In the case of Hinduism, there is no acceptance of abortion. According to the Vedas, abortion is a sinful activity. There is no question of when a fetus becomes a person. Or even when morality is reached (when a baby is actually born). Abortion in Hinduism is evil in all cases,
