Remember the Titans, directed by Boaz Yakin, is a film set in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971. At this time, the first high school was being integrated and neither race was happy about it. Remember the Titans is about the struggle and the journey it takes to succeed, not just as a football team, but as people. The team struggled for many reasons, the main one being race, but also because of having a new coach who wants them to achieve nothing less than perfection. Despite the circumstances, the T.C. Williams High School Titans succeeded as a football team on and off the field. In the beginning of the film, the director shows that the whites and blacks do not get along with each other. Both sides have grown up with their parents giving them preconceived ideas about each other. This shows that many people back then did not know why they hated the opposite race, they just went along with it. Almost everybody was very dedicated to their team and their school, from the coaches to the players. The dedication of the coaches was most important. There is a scene in this movie where the coach takes the team on a long run in the middle of the night. They end up at the break of dawn at a cemetery. The coach tells the young men of the battle of Gettysburg and of the blood shed on those grounds that turned the whole area red. This was a very important moment in the story as Coach Boone explains “Fifty thousand men died on this field right here, fighting the same fight that we are fighting among ourselves today. If we don’t come together right now on this hallowed ground, we to will be destroyed, just like they were. I do not care if you like each other or not, but you will respect each other. And maybe, just maybe we’ll learn to play this game like
