3. Repair Rehabilitation and Selection of Materials
3.1 Options for Repair
The suitable method of repair for any defect is very much dependent on the nature of the defect, the accessibility and the position of the damage in relation to the selection of repair method (Allen, 1998). Moreover, the following items should be considered before carrying out the repair:
1. Is the concrete deterioration necessary to be repaired, and the repair can improve the durability of the structure;
2. Is the repair necessary for structural stability;
3. Is the damage impaired the function of structure. (Allen, 1998)

Material section is based on many factors such as construction condition, load-carrying requirement and durability issues (Raton, 2009). However, the principle of the selection of repairing materials is to firstly use the simplest materials, because those materials are tend to have an abundant resources which make them easily accessible, and have a relatively low price than other advanced materials. Secondly, the repair material must have properties similar to those of the substrate on the concrete to be repaired. Otherwise, using a very high performance repair material on a poor background substrate may lead to cold joint and the growth of cracks. At last, the repair materials should easily adhere to the substrate, and require a short setting period, moreover, the volume of the materials in hardened states should be stable comparing to the volume in plastic state.
3.3 Rehabilitation of Carbonation Induced Concrete Damages
As mentioned in report 1, the corrosion of steel bar in concrete will only occur in the presence of both oxygen and water, therefore measures can be taken by preventing the penetration of oxygen and/or water from the surrounding environmental to the steel reinforcement.
