Republican Core Values

In the past, the Democratic party was known as the conservative, traditional party that fully supported state government while the Republican party was a supporter of the federal government control. The Republican party began as “Lincoln’s party” which caught the attention and support of the colored voters. In contrast, the Democratic party was predominantly white during this time with ideas to keep the rights of the state and the traditions of the South. Though these two parties have opposing views, they began to clash and redirect their beliefs. Over time the two main political parties have changed their platforms based on the issues of desegregation, racism in the South and placement of federal government.

The federalists and democratic republicans were two political parties who were against each other. Even though, both parties believed that what they were doing was best for the nation, they each had differences. The federalists believed in strong government and was led by George Washington, John Adams, and Alexander Hamilton. In the other hand, Democratic republicans believed in a smaller government, debated the political and economic future of the nation, and was led by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.

The Unites States of America and its government drilled into its citizens that they should spread the political idea of democracy for "the common good of the people". The United States government has established democracy in foreign lands, like Guam. They have encouraged countries to use democracy, like Mexico. There are still some countries though, that are not open to the idea of democracy, like Cuba for example. Some countries, like Russia and China, have been open to the idea of it and are incorporating democratic ideas into their government and economy. Observation 1: when we talk about promoting democracy, there are many ways to carry out this promotion. The United States is not obligated to take one course of action. Rather, the US can alter and adjust its approach to what is most suitable for that situation. Different tools might be appropriate at different points of time as well as differing based on the severity of the situation.

Views between the two major parties of government in the United States have many differences and few similarities. The Republican side of government tends to be more conservative and more for the people’s freedoms. They also support government intervention only when necessary. The Democratic side of government tends to be more liberal and support heavy government intervention. Views between abortion, gay marriage, and many other controversial topics differ greatly between the Democratic and Republican Party.

The Republican Party’s beliefs are far vaguer and broad than the Democratic Party’s. The Republican Party has a list about 11 core principles they follow whereas the Democratic Party has 9 points that go into much detail. The Republican Party believes in sticking true to the Constitution, whatever power the Constitution gives the government is the amount of power they should have and valuing human life. The Democratic Party’s preamble does not mention anything about sticking true to the Constitution or preserving human life. But they do talk about equal opportunity for everyone, allowing people to have access to affordable health care, a good job, a good home, have clean air to breath, clean water to drink. The Democratic Party also emphasizes that people who work in a business are just as important as those who own it, workers should be paid a wage that they can survive off of, taxes should be taken fairly, and that the government should not favor corporations who have are not practicing fairly by keeping their money abroad, mistreating their workers and mistreating the

There are clear principles that distinguish Republicans from Democrats. Republicans are conservative while Democrats are liberal. Republicans believe that taxes shouldn’t be increased for anyone, and wages should reflect

The Republican Party believes in conservatism and traditional practices. They are strongly opposed to same-sex marriage and feel that heterosexual marriage is the only right way. Republicans feel that the only ways to economic profit are free market and individual achievement. In addition they oppose high tax rates for the wealthy and believe raising the minimum wage is going to directly hurt the economy. Republicans wish to see increased funding and modernization to the military. In their eyes, a strong defense system is the only way to peace. The Republican Party would like a large reform in social security and want workers to control their own retirement investments.

The Federalist party was lead by the Secretary of Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, along with John Jay and Gouverneur Morris. The Federalist ideals emphasized the need of federal power, favored large businesses, believed the country needed a strong financial system, and interpreted the Constitution loosely. (“Political Parties Emerge (Overview)” 1). The Democratic Republican party was the complete opposite of the Federalist party. Lead by Secretary of State, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison, the Democratic Republican party’s ideals, which were largely inspired by the Enlightenment, were centered around the power of the people. The Democratic Republican party was strongly against an intrusive federal government and believed the power should remain in the hands of the states. Along with those beliefs, the Democratic Republicans favored small, agriculturally based businesses and a strict interpretation of the Constitution (Danver 3). The differences between the parties lead to much conflict within the country, but it also made sure that the decisions made by the government would benefit the whole nation.

The Republican Party believes that the government should not have a big part in the average American's life. They believe in taxes being lowered and less spending on social programs, they believe in the advancement of women in the military, marriage should be between man and woman.The republican party also believes that criminals can't cause harm or damage to anybody or anything if they are locked behind bars, that the death penalty should be enforced on major criminals and big drug kingpins, that our taxes should be going towards cleaning up our environment and finding better energy sources. They believe that we should help poor nations, that Americans should have a right to firearms without having to obtain a license to posses one, that the government should open more public land for hunting, that we should track each foreign traveler and should not have aerial surveillance over U.S soil, That increasing our minimum wage makes our country more competitive.

In high school, students separate themselves into different groups. There are the cool ones, smart ones, weird ones, stoners, and several other groups that students separate themselves into. Although, all the students are equals, they do not see themselves as such due to their labels. The voting citizens of America do the same. Americans have six major political parties that they separate themselves into. Each party has different beliefs, although some may have similar ideas.

The republican party is often referred to as the grand old party. They believe that people are all have their own place in society, that everyone is responsible for their own action. They believe that the government should not be involved in everyone’s lives, they don’t believe the government should be helping people like they do, the government should only hop into a situation when the people cannot fix it. The republican party stands for all the freedoms that we obtain as individuals. They want us to enforce those rights, and do not want anyone taking them

For all of history there has existed the struggle between the strong and the weak. The establishment of government gives the power to a particular group to decide the amount of freedom the majority is allowed, however, though not ideal it provides necessary order. The benefits of security that limitations on freedom provides must be balanced with the individual's pursuit of happiness for citizens to be content. To prevent the governed majority from destabilizing the rulers and seeking power, the government will oppress political and personal freedom of thought. In result, the majority will live under the illusion of contentment and not wish to revolt; those enlightened to the idea that the government should be ruled by the governed, would associate happiness only with ignorance and consequently seek freedom.

Democrats express that the values America supports must evolve over time, and therefore tend to support controversial issues such same-sex marriage and abortion. Republicans values tend to be religious in nature which means Republicans will most likely disapprove of abortions for any reason and disagree with same-sex marriage.
