As many American Liberals have noticed the Democratic Party, supposedly their party, has been losing big electorally. The presidency, the majority of state governorships, both houses of congress and the majority of state assemblies have been lost by the Democrats to the Republican Party. This has left many Democratic citizens wondering, what happened? Why did their party suddenly fall from favor with the voting public? Though I do not hold myself out as having a definitive answer I do have a hunch as to why the Democrats have been losing big at the polls. And fair warning, though I will try to keep this as neutral as possible political biases do have a pesky way of sneaking into these things.
A major difference between the Democratic Party

Sure you’ll still run into some lawyer and scholar types but you’ll also find more bankers, management strategists, investors and other business professionals. The wider skillset that they collectively possess means that as a party the Republicans are better prepared for any situation that may arise. It also means that they know how to speak to voters better than the Democrats.
Elections are not about facts and logic and they are certainly not about who can make the soundest arguments. To think as such is naïve at best and dangerous at worst and the leaders of the Republican Party are well aware of this. The Democrats in contrast don’t seem to have gotten the

Their political strategies thus treat votes like sales and elections as winning market share in political power. They don’t get hung up on soundness of arguments nor their basis in factuality. All they focus on is saying what they need to say in order to win votes. A big technique that I’ve seen used, especially by Donald Trump is appealing to confirmation bias, which my inner philosophy minor reminds me is a logical fallacy. Nevertheless it works and Trump won far more support than anyone predicted he would. This tactic is one that is commonly used by marketers to elicit a particular behavior from groups of people and it transfers over seamlessly to the political realm. The legal and academic argumentation techniques used by the Democrats were never meant to be used to elicit any behavior as such it comes as no surprise that they don’t transfer over to politics nearly as
“On Political Labels” by Christopher Borick and “Four Words That Will Decide the Election” by David Green both deal with how language is used in politics. Borick’s essay is a more historical and informative of the origins of political language and key words, while Green’s essay is a game plan for the Democrats to defeat the Republicans by using their own rhetoric against them. David Green makes great points in his essay, but because of his left wing bias and his overall view of Republicans being almost idiots discredit his essay. This is because of the multiple schools of thought that aren’t taken into account for in his essay. Borick’s historical analysis of political terms gives the reader a greater understanding on the rebuttals the Democrats and Republicans can use, but his overall naïve tone on politics today makes his essay almost utopian or unrealistic. Since both essays were written before the 2012 election, they have some outdated views because of our current changing political climate. The current political climate has made the Democratic Party is leaning more European Socialist, while the Republican Party is being dominated by any reactionary movement that is prides itself on nationalism and anti-immigration rhetoric.
The concept of the Republican Mother is an important idea that further demonstrates the indirect political influence women had as a result of the American Revolution. Unlike the examples of indirect political influence previously examined in this paper, the concept of Republican Mothers, and their influence, extends well past the revolution itself. Although women were still unable to influence politics through direct means, their influence as Republican Mothers demonstrated unprecedented political power and power that lasted well past the revolution itself.
There were many political disputes that happened in the United States. Many people were fighting over which party they should go to or which one was better. They had the Republicans and the Federalists who wanted to sway the vote to their side. They opposed each other and disputed against each other. This caused many conflicts in the United States.
In the past, the Democratic party was known as the conservative, traditional party that fully supported state government while the Republican party was a supporter of the federal government control. The Republican party began as “Lincoln’s party” which caught the attention and support of the colored voters. In contrast, the Democratic party was predominantly white during this time with ideas to keep the rights of the state and the traditions of the South. Though these two parties have opposing views, they began to clash and redirect their beliefs. Over time the two main political parties have changed their platforms based on the issues of desegregation, racism in the South and placement of federal government.
The “Know nothing party” was called the American party and the “Know nothing party” started in 1849. According to, Ohio history central.org “The Know nothing party was a prominent United States political party during the late 1840s and the early 1850s” (Ohio history central.org). Also, members of the “Know nothing party” disapproved of immigrants and Catholics because “many white Americans were Protestant” (Ohio history central.org). Also, the Know nothing party disapproved of the Catholics for many reasons because “they did not like that Catholics followed the teachings of the Pope and they believe Catholics wanted to take over the United States” (Ohio history.
The Democratic convention for the Election of 1860 was held from April 23rd to May 3rd at Charleston, South Carolina. During this convention there was a disagreement over the slavery policy, so some of the Southern delegates withdrew from the ballot. The party wasn’t able to nominate a candidate at this convention, therefore they held a second convention from June 18th to June 23rd in Baltimore, Maryland. At this second convention, the party nominated Stephen Arnold Douglas as president with Herschel Johnson as his vice president after they defeated John Breckinridge. Soon after, conflict arose so a large number of mostly Southern Democrats nominated John Cabell Breckinridge as their presidential candidate with Joseph Lane as his vice president. Douglas and Breckinridge ended up becoming the candidates for the Democratic party during the election.
First, I must make an observation on the criteria many believe the definition of both parties. According to the encyclopedia Britannica the criteria for being a republican, “The Republicans advocate reduced taxes as a means of stimulating the economy and advancing individual economic freedom. They tend to oppose extensive government regulation of the economy, government-funded social programs, affirmative action, and policies aimed at strengthening the rights of workers. Many Republicans, though not all, favor increased government regulation of the private, noneconomic lives of citizens in some areas, such as abortion, though most Republicans also strongly oppose gun-control legislation. Republicans are more likely than
The Republican Party’s beliefs are far vaguer and broad than the Democratic Party’s. The Republican Party has a list about 11 core principles they follow whereas the Democratic Party has 9 points that go into much detail. The Republican Party believes in sticking true to the Constitution, whatever power the Constitution gives the government is the amount of power they should have and valuing human life. The Democratic Party’s preamble does not mention anything about sticking true to the Constitution or preserving human life. But they do talk about equal opportunity for everyone, allowing people to have access to affordable health care, a good job, a good home, have clean air to breath, clean water to drink. The Democratic Party also emphasizes that people who work in a business are just as important as those who own it, workers should be paid a wage that they can survive off of, taxes should be taken fairly, and that the government should not favor corporations who have are not practicing fairly by keeping their money abroad, mistreating their workers and mistreating the
There are clear principles that distinguish Republicans from Democrats. Republicans are conservative while Democrats are liberal. Republicans believe that taxes shouldn’t be increased for anyone, and wages should reflect
“Neither of the two major parties is made up of people who are all of one mind. Each party is a coalition of many people with diverse interests who come together to get their candidates elected to public office.” (Political Science textbook) If this is the case, it makes the decision of choosing who is better even harder. An
Expanding upon Caitlins correct take above, you all on the left believed everything you heard from your liberal bought and paid for mainstream media and so MILLIONS of you didn't showed up to vote. Which in no small part lost you the election. And yet you all still stand in that field of lies the liberal media laid out for you, eating it up like good little sheep, not learning ANYTHING from the ass kicking you all took on Tuesday. Half of the bullshit you were fed about Trump, at best, is a FALSE narrative! Handed down to and pushed by that bought and paid for mainstream media, to make you hate Trump and by proxy make you love or like the most corrupt, vile and duplicitous canidate of my lifetime.. All across the world there are major political parties fighting in each country in order to take control of their government. The United States of America is not an exception, as the Democratic and Republican parties compete against each other in every election in order to gain control of the US Government. These two political parties are the most popular and powerful in the US, there are very popular that other political parties have no chance on competing against these two in an election race. In order to win elections the parties need the vote of the people, the parties need for every gender to vote for them in order to have a chance in winning the election. Both parties need the vote of the men and woman, but these genders tend to vote
In political races in the United States logical fallacies are a staple in political ads. The 2012 election was no exception to this convention, especially being true in an advertisement with ex-steel plant worker Joe Soptic, speaking in Obama-affiliated Political Action Committee Priorities. The advertisement included many logical fallacies to argue against the Romney campaign. Those include post hoc reasoning, ad hominem, and slippery slope.
Both Republicans and Democrats have unequivocal pockets of political support. When running for office, votes come from various sectors of
Not only do democrats have fallacies in their reasoning but republicans do too. At the start of the 21st century, George Bush had to make a case against the horrible terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Instead of presenting a sound argument, Bush used the fallacy of False Dilemma to persuade people to believe him. Bush said, “Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.” ("Logical Fallacies: George W. Bush.")
