When Brandon Long, a personal trainer from Long Beach, California, was asked what got him interested in personal training, he replied, “I guess it started with my love for exercising and seeing the changes that it makes on your body, mind, and confidence.” There are many reasons why people would want to become a personal trainer. They can be the person who helps someone meet his or her goals and makes them successful. They can be involved with all kinds of people in all kinds of sports. And finally, they also have the ability to work on their own and set their own schedule.

Some common areas of study in college include exercise science, kinesiology, and physical education. (NFPT) Having a degree is especially helpful if a person plans on teaching students the trade sometime during their career. It is also very important that a person receives their A.F.A.A. certificate which stands for Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. (NFPT) This is the most important certification someone is able to receive in this field. Once a person is certified, it makes things much easier to be able to start your own business. (NFPT)
When becoming a personal trainer, one very smart move is to start off at a club and then gradually progress to becoming independent. People would want to do this because at a club they will have partners that they will be able to work and grow with. Once they think it is time, they can become independent and be able to own their own business. (NFAA) This is a good thing because the salary will be much higher and the hours will become much more flexible for time of your own. The salary in this field will increase by around twenty-four percent this decade, and that is why it is a much more popular job than it was fifteen years ago.
