School shootings are a tragedy, it’s just about impossible to say it’s not. Children are one of our most valuable resources as they are the future of this country and this world and we put so much time and energy into them it would make sense to keep them safe. The thing I don’t understand is why we protect our president with guns, our congressmen with guns, celebrities with guns, sporting events with guns, jewelry stores with guns, and yet we protect our kids with a gun free zone sign. And then when there is an emergency we call someone with a gun to solve the issue. What scares me and I think everyone needs to be aware of is that according to School Guard, a company that is specializing in technology to help reduce response time to school
across the nation . These threats from juveniles are not a new, but seem to be an all too common
There seems to be many controversial issues going on in the world today, particularly in the United States. Many of these issues going on right now cause division and heated debates in our country. One of the biggest and most talked about issues in America at the moment has to be whether or not if we should give teachers guns. A lot of people seem to be really divided and passionate about this topic. The fact that this issue is so relevant and talked about is what encouraged to me want to know more about it and eventually write about it. For me there is only one right answer to the topic of arming our teachers or not. We should not provide our teachers with guns as it will only increase the amount of danger in our schools, also it would be
In 1999, two considered outcasts, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into Columbine High School in Colorado, opened fire and murdered twelve students, one teacher, while injuring twenty-four additional students before turning the gun on themselves. In 2007, Seung-Hui Choo, a senior at Virginia Tech, shot and killed thirty-two people and injured seventeen others, before turning the gun on himself. It was the deadliest mass shooting at a school in United States history. In 2012, Adam Lanza, shot and killed his mother then drove to Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut, before opening fire and killing twenty children and six adult staff members before turning the gun on himself. This was the second deadliest mass shooting in United States history. These three separate shootings, all took place in what is suppose to be a safe learning environment, but all ended with many casualties. It has heightened our concern and raises the question on the measures that can be taken to safely protect our students and staff in our school systems: Should our teachers and administrators be armed? Arming teachers and administrators in public and private schools does not send the appropriate message towards students and parents and could offer more risk than reward to teachers. In addition, teachers and administrators are taught to provide the students with educational purpose while maintaining order and discipline in a comfortable, safe and friendly learning atmosphere. Therefore,
In the wake of two recent shootings, one that left 17 dead in a Florida high school and shooting at Central Michigan that killed two,the debate over gun control is once again at the forefront of our country. When I flash back to the deadly Valentine's Day shooting, I think about my immediate reaction after watching the live coverage for an hour.
October 2006 marked the date of the tragic school shooting of ten young amish schoolgirls. However, this tragic shooting, was just the beginning. In the midst of the grieving community, forgiveness became evident. The Amish community did not show anger but rather they showed grace and compassion towards the killers family. The abundant grace that was shown was overwhelming. Through the deaths of several schoolgirls we are shown the amazing power of forgiveness and Gods grace. “The afternoon of the shooting an Amish grandfather of one of the girls who was killed expressed forgiveness toward the killer, Charles Roberts. That same day Amish neighbors visited the Roberts family to comfort them in their sorrow and pain.” (LancasterPA) And later
Do you think that the parents of the children that start school shootings be charged? Do you think that they deserve to be punished for what their kids have done? Do you think that the parents should be hurt for something that their kids have done that they may or may not have known what the kids were doing? Lack of funding and resources, many discipline problems arise when students are disengaged and do not have support services to help them persist in their educational pursuits. Lack of textbooks, inexperienced teachers, and non-existent counseling and special education services all contribute to delinquency and high dropout rates. Alternative school environments,In some public school districts, children that have been disciplined are remanded

Meanwhile one of the most horrific school shootings took place in April, 1999, at Colorado at Columbine High School near Denver. The carnage from that outrage is still vivid in the minds of those affected, and with every new school shooting the grief from past slaughters comes back fresh in the mind. In this paper the "Final Report and Findings of the Safe School Initiative" from the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Department of Education will be reviewed and critiqued. Along with that critique, the findings from the Governor of Colorado's commission report on Columbine, and other reports related to school shootings will be presented.

Many called for new gun laws and many marched on the capitol to protest what they saw as inaction. These protests were the biggest youth protest since Vietnam and show that these kids aren’t going to back down. “WE will get rid of these public servants who only care about the gun lobby” said one student, this action and similar statements by these kids show that they want change, but how will the change they want happen and will it happen soon?
