The Amazon Rainforest Covering more than forty percent of South America is the Amazon Rainforest. It’s known for being the largest rainforest on the planet. Most of the jungle lies in Brazil. The Amazon Rainforest also holds the Amazon River. According to the National Science Foundation, the amazon river is the longest river in the world by volume and contains twenty percent of the Earths’ freshwater. But the Nile River is the longest when calculating width. Being as big a it is, the amazon holds a massive number of dfferent types of species of wildlife with different kinds of sub-ecosystems to provide for them. When I think of the Amazon I first think of the terrestrial ecosystems. These are the land based eviroments. I’m going to take the first part of this project to talk about the terrestrial ecosystem in the amazon and all the wildlife that it holds. According to WorldAtlas there are 427 types of mammals, 1,300 types of birds, 378 types of reptiles, more than 400 kinds of amphibians, over 80,000 types of plants and trees, and estimation of over 2 million differnt types of insects. Unfortunatley I cannot go over ever single one of these unique species so I will talk about the more popular species that benefit the jungle. The rainforest is divided in four layers: forest floor, understory, canopy and emergent. The canopy is the most heavy populated with plant life, with trees towering up to 200 feet
The Brazilian Rainforest is one of the most unique, vast, and diverse regions of the world. To get a general idea of the diversity of the Rainforest, it makes up a total of one-third of the world forests (more than four million square kilometers), it contains half of the total number of named species in the world (eighty-thousand plant species, 1,500 fish species, and one-forth of the 8,600 bird species), and is the world largest holder of genes (Library 138-139). To say the least, the Brazilian Rainforest is one of the most important natural resources we, as humans, know. It would seem that this knowledge, alone, would also make the Brazilian Rainforest one of the most protected land areas on Earth as well. However, the situation is
The Amazon forest occupies a relevant place on the international scene and its importance is recognized worldwide. The goal of this paper is to present general information about the Amazon area, showing the biodiversity and the environmental, social, and economic impact in exploring that area. This paper will also emphasize what are the values of that ecosystem to the world, explaining about several natural resources, fauna, and flora in the Amazon forest. The author supported his arguments on articles and books that are in the reference. As a result, the author provides an overview and some important details about that area, bringing arguments and evidences to show why is important take care of the Amazon forest.
As a result of deforestation and other causes, as few as 10,000 species go extinct every year, with a multitude lost in the rainforests across the world. The Amazon Rainforest, the largest rainforest in the world, houses roughly, “40,000 plant species, 427 mammals, 1,300 birds, 378 reptiles, and around 3,000 freshwater fish,” as well as more than 100,000 of invertebrate species (Amazon Wildlife). The rapid loss of the Amazon rainforest, precisely 17% in the last fifty years, critically cripples the biodiversity of the rainforest. To explain, every vehicle that destroys any sort of foliage is a loss to the animals that live in the forest. As known, every animal consumes a multitude of different plants or animals, and the more plants in the area,
The Interdependence of plants, animals, and humans is integral in the Amazon Rainforest ecosystem of the tropical rainforest biome. The key features of the Amazon Rainforest is the Amazon River. The Amazon Rainforest goes through Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and many other countries. Colombia has 10%, Brazil has 60%, and Peru has 13%. 80-90 degrees during the day and 50 degrees at night is the temperature of the Amazon Rainforest. There are dry and wet seasons. it gets 9 to 10 feet of rain a year. The terrain is in the Amazon Rainforest are rocky mountains, wetlands , plains, valleys, rivers, streams, and highlands. The dirt is poor with very few nutrients and it is very muddy. It is also dense with trees and rotting logs. The thin topsoils, made of decaying vegetable and animal parts, take up all the nutrients. In the Amazon Rainforest there 's the Congo River, the Rio Negro, and the Amazon River.
Rainforests are known to be critically important for human wellbeing and are often referred to as the lungs of the planet. This is because, rainforests not only absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen that all animals depend on for survival but due to the fact they also help stabilize climate, provide a home to many plants and animals, maintain the water cycle, protect the human population against flood, drought & erosion, and are a source for medicines and foods. Rainforest also happen to support tribal people and are known to be an interesting place to visit. Abiotic factors are referred to as non-living chemical and physical parts of the environment that affect living organisms and the functioning of ecosystems (Dictionary.com, 2017). Some examples of abiotic factors in the Amazon forest include water cycle, temperature and carbon cycle. Additionally, the living components of an ecosystem also referred to as the biotic factors (Dictionary.com, 2017) are elements of the Amazon forest. This includes the organisms living in the ecosystem and the present food chain. Altogether, these are factors and components that are seen in the Amazon forest, despite the deteriorating status of the rainforest due to human activities within the ecosystem. With these activities currently occurring, the amazon rainforest could potentially be eliminated if action is not taken.
B: The Amazon River is another national landmark for Brazil. It is the second largest river in the world. It is habitat to rare mammals such as the boto, also known as the Amazon River Dolphin. The Characin, similar to piranhas. And in some shallow parts of the Amazon the Anaconda, one of the world's largest species of snakes.
One of the biome which I found interesting was the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon Rainforest is region which is owned by more than 1 country because of its land mass. It is actually owned by 9 nations. This biome is situated in the amazon basin of South Africa. The Amazon Rainforest covers 5,500,000 km2 (2,123,562 sq mi) of total 7000000 km2 of the Amazon basin. This particular rainforest cover more than 50% of the world rainforest biome. So as to understand this particular rainforest biome better, I am going to talk about the Brazil part of the rainforest as it owns 60% of the rainforest. I found this particular
Today, the total percentage of forest cover of the earth is approximately thirty percent (“Deforestation”). That is about nine percent of the world’s total surface. The largest rainforest is the Amazon River Basin, located in South America. The Amazon is home to many species of animals, insects, plants and trees. Many of the trees and plants in the Amazon produce about twenty percent of the oxygen on earth, and absorb carbon. However, the Amazon is decreasing in size every day due to the ongoing deforestation of the land. Deforestation is when the forest of the land are cleared or destroyed, in order to be used for other actions (“Deforestation”). The Amazon is twenty percent less than it was about forty years ago (Wallace). In just about
Did you know that the rainforest is a fantastic biome? It has three parts that make it special. The forest is also home to more plant life than any other. It’s pretty big. Rainforests have a climate and appearance, producers, and consumers specific to the ecosystem.
The Amazon Rainforest is the largest rainforest and river basin in the world. It covers around 2.1 million square miles of land, and exists in eight different countries and one French Territory. The Amazon rainforest is one of the most diverse places on the planet, accounting for ten percent of all known species, with more being discovered every year. But in this fragile ecosystem, people see opportunity to make money and a lifestyle, sometimes even illegally, trying to profit in the logging, mining, and agriculture industries. However, these industries help contribute to the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest.
Approximately two-thirds of the Amazon rainforest and one-third of the remaining rainforest in the world is in Brazil. The Amazon is home to ten percent of the total known species worldwide, making Brazil the most biodiverse country in the world. However, deforestation and land conversion in Brazil are prevalent issues and a threat to the biodiversity, endangered species, and indigenous people that live in the Amazon.
According to rainforestanimals.net it states, "A wide variety of life including insects and larger animals living in ( Rainforest floor) this layer include Jaguars, Bengal Tigers, Okapis, and Southern Cassowaries". Also according to rainforestanimals.net they wrote " Animals that inhabit the rainforest canopy include Lemurs, Spider Monkeys, Sloths, Toucans, Oranguans, and Parrots". Another thing rainforestanimals.net says is that " Animals that inhabit emergent trees include a variety of insects, some species of bats, and some species of birds including the Harpy Eagles. Lastly, the reliable source of rainforestanimals.net they say, " Many animals have special adaptions that allow them to live in tropical conditions, but would not survive outside the ecosystem. These animals include but are not limited to Toucans, Parrots, Sloths, Orangutans, Gorillas, and Lemurs". What all these quotes tell you is that the Amazon Rainforest is one of the many forests that support and protect most of the animals on our planet. This also shows how it has many creature who adapt to its conditions show that they may be able to survive and grow in a peculiar
The Denver Academy has recently researched and defined some of the important facts surrounding the Amazon rainforest. In 2017, the Amazon rainforest covers 2.1 million square miles of South America. It is a vast ecosystem home to 10% of the world’s known species (The Denver Academy). They go on to say that the trees are so dense, when it rains, it takes 10 minutes for the water to break through the forest roof. The destruction of this habitat could lead to extinction of these species, and have devastating impacts all over the world from the loss of the lungs of the earth. While it is mainly concentrated in Brazil there are also large portions of the rainforest in Peru and Colombia, so many populations and economies are directly affected
There are also over 40,000 plant species; they don't call the Amazon "the lungs of the planet" for nothing. The rainforest plays an important role in maintaining local and worldwide climate. Yet, rampant deforestation is killing off native species of plants and animals. Industries, like agriculture, logging and mining, http://globalpublicpolicywatch.org/2014/01/14/deforestation-logging-and-mining-a-deadly-combination-for-the-amazon-rainforest/ are invasive and environmentally
The Amazon Rainforest is also called the Amazon Biome which is the single largest tropical rainforest in the world; but it is still being destroyed like the other rainforest. In the Amazon forest, it is a home of many biodiversity, including native and endangered plants and animals which can be found in the understory layer. The rainforest also contains the largest number of freshwater fish species, unique trees and different fruits by the Amazon River. Amazon is also has many common and exotic birds fly named Toucan. The insect in this rainforest can be huge and harmful. For example, the trap-jaw ant can be ¾ inch long with painful stings and it live with juice, alway sting when the food is threatened. Another example is the owl butterfly,
