I do believe that there is such a thing as American culture. I know it’s hard to see America as having it’s own culture because the US is considered a melting pot, and so many different cultures contribute to our everyday lives, but the US does have it’s own culture. Just as other cultures influenced the United States, the US has also influenced other cultures.

American culture can be broken down into many categories but I’ll just do six. Food that is considered part of American culture are hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips, fast food, macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, apple pie, Tex-Mex, which is a mix between Spanish and Mexican cuisine that is mainly served in Southern states and in Texas, and also Southern style cooking. This type of cooking is considered American comfort food and consists of fried chicken, collard greens, black-eyed peas and corn bread. Also, jerky, and dried meats are also considered part of our culture. Many of these foods have since spread to other parts of the world in the form of fast food chains. The main sports focused on are the following: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Basketball, and Soccer. We have March Madness, and the Playoffs for Basketball. Baseball, which is considered America’s pastime because it was developed back in colonial time and in the 1800’s became an organized sport, has the All-Star games, and the playoffs/World Series. Football has the Playoffs and the Super bowl. Hockey has the All-Star games and the Playoffs/Stanley Cup. All of these big events are a staple in American households, and also is a huge economy booster. When these sports events come up, families and friends usually throw parties, and make a day of it.
