Number one New York Times bestselling author Nicholas Sparks in his novel “At first sight” said “The emotion that can break your heart is sometimes the very one that heals it...” This essay discusses the thoughtful quotation of the author. Most of the great people whose life path inspires us experienced lots of difficult situations, heartbreaks, disappointments. For example: Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Mother Teresa, Steve Jobs… the list goes on. In my view they become great persons just because of their great failures during lifespan. They felt anger, sadness, and hate… whatever was the emotion they felt, it made them move forward, and somehow these emotions broke them down and healed them too. They lost something good and found something
Napoleon Hill once stated, “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” From George Washington to Nelson Mandela, greatness is cultivated from adversity during turbulent times. Horace’s assertion is correct in view of the fact that adversity causes people to act, reveals vulnerabilities, and forces people to adapt.
Everyone has a different way of living and a different personality, and a lot of it has to do with how a person was brought up and their background. The person that I am today has a lot to do with my family's impact, the people I hung out with, the type of home I lived in, and the community I was raised in. There was a lot of lessons to be learned, but I was able to stick through them, and carry on with my life to the point where I am now.
The stories that deal with adversities, challenges and perseverance is when all eyes open to blossom. We humans seem to grow and live off of inspirational stories and movies that may keep us going on in life. The struggles, the weaknesses, the hardships is what makes people more appreciative and then there are the inspirational endings that pushes people to do better. Halle Berry, a favorite actress of many whose dealt with depression and suicide attempts after her divorce in 1997 is now recognized as the best actress award winner, Famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio dealt with obsessive-compulsive disorder, Albert Einstein suffered from Dyslexia, Isaac Newton suffered from bipolar disorder, and the famous artist Michelangelo suffered from Autism. These famous and historical figures is what makes their purpose in the acting, science or arts industry
The push to keep training and maintaining the discipline of a Basketball player despite the initial rejection makes Michael Jordan iconic. He knew that the way to the top would not be easy, but he was determined to do all it takes to get there. This shows that no one who truly wants to make a mark should think that life is a bed of roses. There is something to overcome; there are disciplines to maintain if we want to get to great heights. We can overcome obstacles like a genius when we pattern our lives to do the things that geniuses do.
Imagine having the perfect life- you get into all honors classes, you get straight A’s, you are the first chair in the orchestra, you get into the A Cappella choir, you are on the varsity volleyball team, President of the Student Council, and you have a perfect home life. You have never had to face a single obstacle throughout your journey in life. When your whole life is like this, you do not know what failure feels like and will never experience the need to rise up after a downfall. There are many types of journeys one can take in life and dealing with obstacles has a prodigious impact on the outcome. The obstacles and hindrances are the things that shape us as we experience the ups and downs in life.
Initially, when I think of someone who handled a great deal of difficulty, yet overcame them and succeeded, I picture Abraham Lincoln. Abe had many struggles that not many people know of. When he was young, Lincoln moved several times
When you succeed you need to faliure and successful person will tell you that they had failed, but those failures are what made them successful.People with success can lead to other success, this is shown with many people around the world in many different industries. This is mainly shown by the music industries, like other artist shout out or make song with unknown or not well know artist. They had overcome many obstacles an example is school, family problems, and negatively of review of loves ones and friends. One example of this is shown filmmaker Cole bennett’s,his failure can be instructive by teaching or helping others to become more successful than even him.
Human beings emotionally thrive on the will to survive, yet how they react to adversity will determine their length of drive they have within. Everybody will eventually face a situation where their mentality will be tested, no matter how happy their life had been. Even in fictional stories, authors must write out their characters facing a major conflict or else there would be no character build, a necessary component of a fantastic novel. Roman poet Horace quoted how the best traits of a person will lay dormant unless they are faced in a miserable situation. However, the results after facing an adversity are debatable. Adversity comes in multiple sized tests that shows how you react by what you experience personally and the results can be either negative or positive on the person’s behalf. Although people facing adversity are expected to present their best traits by Horace beliefs, the background of each individual is what truly determines their ability to grow or falter in undesirable situations.
One example is when I was learning how to swim. A few years back, I always wanted to learn how to swim, but I couldn’t. The only situation I was satisfied with doing was standing in water that went no higher than my shoulders. Therefore my parents sent me to swimming lessons. The only obstacle I had to overcome was treading water, in the deep end. I was always afraid of the deep end, even with instructors and life guards around. Well, one day, my classmates and I had to practice our treading, I was too afraid to get in, and therefore my instructor picked me up and threw me in. That was the day I realized I needed to be brave and overcome my fear of the deep end. Nonetheless it took a while. All of my hard work came through, and now I go on any pool or water park knowing that I didn’t have to worry about drowning. I learned that if I wanted to achieve something, then I would have to have perseverance, and overcome the obstacles that come with wanting to achieve it, just like
Throughout my life I faced a lot of challenges. I had to overcome the obstacle that was on my way. The obstacle made me stronger and made me the person who I am right now a ambitious and hardworking student. The problem shaped me up because I know that I have to work for what I want and to not depend on no one, this made me more independent. Also, I learned from my mistake and try to do better.
People all grow up in different places, around different people, under different circumstance and, all of these cause different effects on their lives. People are who they are today because of the experiences that they faced. Until I was a teenager, it was always just my mom and I. I never met my “dad”, not even from day one. I never was able to get to know him, or see him, but I did have a mom. I faced the odds of becoming the stereotypical kid with a single parent that went down the wrong path, but I never did. Life caused me to have a single mother that has made me the strong person that I am today.
Sparks’ Style Stylistic elements are used by many authors in different ways. Nicholas Sparks has a clear style that is easy to catch on to. In The Notebook and The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks, the author uses elements to make a comparison through the two stories. The most distinguish elements he uses are symbolism, imagery, and diction.
This quote is what I’ve held in my memory for as long as I can remember and have made me truly understand the concept of love. Love can either be the greatest gift one can receive, or it can be heart breaking when it doesn’t correspond to
Love at first sight is when two people meet eye to eye and instantly connect amongst each other. In the beginning of the narrative Mabel’s brothers are aggressively mean to her, questioning her every move towards her next plans after the selling of their house. With every question, a cold answer would follow. It was clear that Mabel was misunderstood from her relatives and now more than ever she felt alone. The doctor was unaware of Mabel’s existence until their first encounter in her diner kitchen. Author Lawrence’s way of writing helped readers use their context clues to symbolize their eye contact was meaningful. Unlike most greetings, theirs were long regardless of the people that were in the room. Which in most cases means so much more. Given this was the first encounter of the two characters, I would assume something very magical would occur later on in the story because of their strong first interaction.
“We often fall in love with the illusions we have of about a person rather than who they really are. That is the ‘painted veil’ that is in front of our vision of the truth and when those illusions get torn away it can be process of disenchantment and pain.”
