In my research paper I searched for statistics on Bullying in High school her in the United States. I found many different numbers on what type of bullying and the causes of bullying. What was also found was the reason why most students turn into bullies themselves. It is saddening, to me, while i was reading the research and finding out a many things that I already did not know myself. Why I chose this topic is because it hits close to home and this topic has weighed heavely on my own heart. I researched this topic hoping to see a change in the last couple years of my own research. Bullying in High school in the Us shows that with every four students enrolled there is one child who is bullied regularly. The bullying that occurs in high school is carried over from middle school as early as sixth grade. In some surveys it shows that 30% of bullies have been either bullied themselves or come from a rough home life. Another survey shows that 77% of students are verbally and mentally abused, 14% of that 77 end up having a severely negative reaction to the bullying, such as anxiety, a drop in grades, and less want to be with friends. In the schools it is said that 50% of bullying incidents happen in the restroom, when there is no one around to negate it. However, 85% of students do not receive help from teachers or school staff. I believe that should be fixed and that teachers should actually show that they care. In a study in 2010 showed that 61% of the participants said

Schools are the most well-known settings for bullying. This is the place where students learn and socialize for most of the day. A school is a place meant to feel safe, not afraid. However, studies have shown us this is not the case. More and more students are reluctant to come to school. Why? Their peers may criticize them and abuse of them both verbally and physically. Bullying is more serious than most think. Many people just think it’s a simple hoax that was taken too far but this simple joke can lead to indelible emotional and physical scar that could hunt students for life eventually lowering their self-esteems and even ruining their lives. Schools and teachers have failed tremendously at stopping this.
I believe schools should be free of bullying because it is a place where we need to study and build fundamentals for our future. Bullying damages the bullied individuals emotionally, academically, and intellectually. I know this from a personal experience, I suffered from bullying for about three years in high school, and I know how it feels to be bullied and to be afraid to assert myself. The bullies used to bully me by calling me “ugly” and “stupid” and many other phrases…I used to hear these negative words and phrases daily. It even affected my academic performance, and I used to tell myself that it is okay, I am not the only one who has been through this and not survived. Plus, I was scared if I faced them and tried to defend myself, it will be worse, so I used to deal with it by silence. It stopped when I decided to speak up about it to my teacher. After talking to my teacher, who took care of the problem, nobody bothered me after that day. If I had not spoken up and stood up for myself that issue would have never been solved. This example shows the significance for students to speak up for themselves to solve their own problems. Consequently, we should never hesitate to assert ourselves and ask for help if we have an
The bullies in schools never think they will get severely punished, so they don’t stop. They think that they won’t be caught and that bullying isn’t a huge deal, but it is. Bullying causes students to not go to school, to feel alone, and to leave their school feeling worthless. If the bully were to be suspended, he/she would learn quickly that what they are doing is wrong in so many ways. They will realize that bullying can be the reason they don’t get into their dream school or do something they love. On the other hand, victims of bullying don’t come forward and voice that the have been taunted, teased, and tormented because they don’t think the school will help them. 67 percent of students feel that their school doesn’t hear about their bullying and doesn’t do anything that will prevent it (Soard). A great number of bullies in
This social issue has been in the spotlight for quite some time now and is the leading cause for students to miss school, become less social, cause self harm and even in some cases death. Bullying and harassment are commonly seen for the most part amongst teenagers who face issues at school, not only does this happen here in the United States, but in schools universally. ¨17% of American students report being bullied 2 to 3 times a month or more within a school semester¨ (Valerie). Although this is mostly seen among teens it can also happen between children and even adults. Bullying can occur everyday throughout Madera High School and no one would be able to acknowledge or stand up for the victim. Vice Principals at MHS have said that more

Hoover, J.H., Oliver, R.L., and Thomson, K.A (1993). Perceived victimzation by school bullies: New research and future direction
Bullying has been escalating to a certain degree that it has affected as many as 160,000 students that reported staying home from school every day, because they were afraid of being bullied (www.stompoutbullying.org). Bullying does not only stops one from wanting to go to school, it also makes one feel anxious, insecure, and unhappy at school, isolated and at times severely depressed (Young, Shin Kim, and Leventhal). Schools must have better resources available to students; this includes the victim and the bully. The victim should have both better counseling and stricter laws to protect them. Bullies also need counseling due to research which states “that many bullies tend to come from families where parents are more
