Corymbia gummifera is the botanical name for the hard wood red bloodwood. This wood is grown along the coast of NSW and Queensland and is commonly used in the production of round timber. It has reasonably high strength, is in the colour group light to dark red, it can last in the ground for more than 25 years and above ground for 40+ years, termite resistant but is susceptible to lyctid attack and is slightly combustible. Red bloodwood is a great hardwood to use for fencing and structural timber poles providing many aesthetic and structural benefits. Also can be used for sleepers, house stumps and veneer as it is aesthetically pleasing wood. The concentric gum veins means it is rarely use in sawn form as in the drying process the gum would
This experiment, which was used to explore the Theory of Evolution created by Charles Darwin. The use of natural selection was apparent in the artificial modification of an organism's traits which aided in this investigation. Through this experiment the Wisconsin Fast Plant was used. It is a fast-growing organism developed to improve the resistance to disease in cruciferous plants. This plant aids scientist in the exploration of environmental effects on population due to the speed to which is matures and reproduces. Artificial selection was stimulated by the selection against plants with few hairs(trichomes). Trichomes create a wider variation which means it is polygenic. The plants that had only a few trichomes were
Trebonianus Gallus was born in Italy in 206 A.D. He became the 36th Emperor of the Roman Empire during the third century. He reigned jointly from 251 A.D. with Hostilianus, then later with Volusianus from A.D. 251 to 253. His reign was short and suffered from a series of disasters. Trebonianus Gallus was not a great leader and was eventually killed by his own soldiers.

If I had lived during the Holocaust, the hardships would include lack of shelter, starvation, and survival. To start, people struggled to find a safe shelter. The book Milkweed is about a boy who has to change the locations of his shelter to be able to survive. I know that during this time period a lot of people who were jewish were taken to concentration camps were they were forced to work and were treated harshly. Because of this people had to change the location of their shelter to escape getting caught. Additionally, people also had to face the struggles of starvation. Since hitler and his nazis were killing off a lot of people, the people who owned food stores could no longer sell food. This meant that people couldn’t get the same amount
While invasive species are prohibited, that doesn’t mean all new species are prohibited. Not all new species become invasive. New species only become invasive when they become independent from humans for survival by winning the competition against native species for resources. These species also normally don’t obtain any natural predators which allows for growth and reproductive success to go unchecked. Two invasive species that seem to be more and more common around our roadsides lately are the Japanese Knotweed and the poison parsnips.
Trebonianus Gallus was appointed as the emperor after the previous emperor Decius was killed by the Goths. Gallus was made emperor by his soldiers and his first act as emperor he made a truce with the Goths letting them return home with their plunder and prisoners, agreeing to pay them if they did not attack them again. Gallus then quickly marched back to Rome, hoping to secure his position as emperor by assuring good relations with the senate. After Gallus returned to Rome he appointed Decius’ younger son Hostilianus as Augustus to stand alongside Gallus as his imperial colleague. In order not to aggravate Decius’ widow, Gallus did not elevate his wife, Baebiana, to the rank of Augusta.
Eucalyptus Camaldulensis (see image 6), commonly known as River red gums is one of the 800 species of the genus Eucalyptus. River red gums are the most populous of the eucalyptus genus (see image 8) commonly found near the Murrumbidgee River and the Darling River.
We found this red alder on March 26th 1806 along the Cowlitz river, in Washington. We have recently learnt that red alder is used for 'pulpwood, furniture, cabinet work and tool handles'. Indians would take red dye and make canoes and dye fishing nets. These trees would grow in North America along lots of rivers. The would was known to be extremely strong so you also make homes out of the bark
Plasma membranes are the physical barrier of cells, which are selectively permeable to allow the passage of materials such as nutrients, gasses and waste products (Flinders University, 2015). The steroid cholesterol contained in the plasma membrane increases the membrane fluidity at higher temperatures (Blicher et al., 2009). Beta vulgaris contains a pigment called betalain, which leaches out of the tissue when there is an increase in membrane permeability, this causes the solution B. vulgaris is in to turn red (Flinders University, 2015). The aim of this investigation was to determine the effect of temperature on Beta vulgaris plasma membrane permeability.
Cyriacus Pizzecolli was a true Renaissance man. At age 30 he felt the calling preserve the history around him that he saw being ruined right before his eyes. As an international trader and traveler he knew first hand why the ancient remains were being destroyed, wether it be from poor construction and improper maintenance to people stealing the items. He had a passion for preserving ancient history few others shared, and he knew that if he didn't do something to preserve it, no one would. When Cyriacus “noticed” the “Arch of Trajan” in his hometown he began to wonder what possible secrets it could hold to the birth and history of his city, Ancona. The discovery of what kind of history his own town might have lead him on a life-long journey to learn the history of other cities and the stories they are able to tell.
Acroptilon repens (Russian Knapweed) is a noxious weed in quite a few states, including Utah and Idaho. This weed causes many different problems for farmers and ranchers because it is a pasture/range weed. There have been studies done to find the best sources of control. Many of these studies have spanned for a long time. Management practices vary by region and there is a lot of discussion about which management practice is the best for this fast spreading weed. Because there have been many research projects about this particular weed they have been able to successfully come up with multiple chemical treatments that work to control it. There are still other control methods that should be considered because of the fact that chemicals are not always the best option for everyone. This paper will look into Russian Knapweed, its characteristics, and the different methods of control that have been tried in past years.
As aging is becoming a worldwide phenomenon, polyphenols have gained interest as potentially modifiable protective factors against neural diseases, such as dementia. The risk factors of cognitive function decline are not comprehensive, while the mechanisms may involve oxidative stress and inflammation. Epidemiological evidence shows that food contained flavonoid, which antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, is associated with a lower risk of neurodegenerative disorders and better cognitive evolution of the performance in the elderly(60). Although animal models are more properly used to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of the neuroprotective effects of Vaccinium berries, there
The Fratercula arctica live in Northern Atlantic. In that place it is cold. The Fratercula arctica has four different species. All four are found in the cold weather. Since they live up there they have to find food. They hunt small fish. What they do is cool. The fly up to speeds to 55 miles per hour. The Fratercula arctica flap their wings 300-400 flaps in a minute. Then they swoop down and open the beak and get a lot of small fish. The stuff about 64 small fish. Since the Fratercula arctica is a bird the skin is of course feathers, so they can fly. The good thing about the Fratercula arctica is that they conservation status is good. That means the that they are not going extinct. The conservation status of a species is an indicator of the
Logging tropical hardwoods like teak, mahogany, rosewood and other timber for furniture, building materials, charcoal and other wood products is big business and creates big profits. Several species of tropical hardwoods are imported by developed counties, including America, just to build coffins which are then buried or burned. The demand, extraction and consumption of tropical hardwoods has been so massive that some countries which have been traditional exporters of tropical hardwoods are now importing the wood because they have already exhausted their supply by destroying their native rainforests in slash and burn operations. It is anticipated that The Philippines, Malaysia, The Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Thailand will all run out of rainforest hardwood for export within the next five years.
