This entire project consists of a lot of souvenirs, which I have brought from India, in memory of my childhood. The cultural treasure chest is a gift from my grandfather. It was during one of the times when I visited him that he gave me this present as a lasting reminder of him. It has an exquisite illustration of a royal Indian princess, Mumtaz. Inside the box there is a whistle, which honestly speaking I don’t know who gave it to me. All I do know is that I’ve had it for as long as I can remember. As a child, I really wanted to whistle but couldn’t, so I believe that someone gave this to me to fulfill my wish. The treasure chest also contains an elegant necklace, and a colorful anklet. Both of these ornaments are gifts from my grandmother,

The butter cookie recipe is very important to me because it shows the Dutch origin of my family, and I love to bake. Butter cookies are a bit challenging to bake, but I love making them. The artifact carries a lot of my family’s history with it. My great great grand =mother left it to my great grandmother, who left it to my father. The recipe notecard is placed in the back of a a Julia Child cookbook. It is important to my
Choosing an artifact for the box was an easy decision. I chose to put a picture of my dog, Chocolate, because he is very important to me. He is a two year old Schnoodle (half Schnauzer half Poodle) who we rescued from the animal shelter. It will be exciting to look back at what he looked like as a puppy. The artifact portrays me well since I love my dog and he is a big part of my life. It shares
In The Cultural Toolbox by Anton Treuer, the relationship between loss and resilience is explored through the lens of cultural identity and heritage. The book sheds light on the Ojibwe's approach to dealing with various forms of cultural loss and finding pathways for preservation, highlighting the essential role of traditional practices, storytelling, and the revival of cultural identity. This reflection explores the dynamic between personal sacrifices for professional success and cultural preservation and their impacts on familial bonds and cultural continuity. I argue that the sacrifices made by Treuer, his mother, and my parents, though intended to benefit future generations, prompt critical discussions on cultural resilience, assimilation,
People in the world guide their lives with culture, but some have it ripped away from them. In the book The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien tells the stories of people in the Vietnam war that had their culture and lives taken away by it. They had to feel what it was like to be striped of their culture. They had to cope with the war and what happened when they returned back home. Culture is a big part of everyones lives.
For the cultural scavenger hunt, I was able to observe my doctor’s office, called Doctors Family Practice Center. It was interesting for me to notice the setting more in detail, and to observe people, pictures, and literature. Although I have been there a few times, it was helpful to notice small details. I was glad that I was able to do this project, because in the future I will observe healthcare settings more in detail.
This artifact was a written final exam analyzing issues relating to leadership and diversity in the course Leadership in Multicultural Organizations. This artifact demonstrates knowledge, comprehension, and analysis of the concepts and theories of leadership, issues of diversity in organizations, and strategies for managing differences among today’s multicultural workforce. I selected this artifact because it discusses and describes the link between leadership approaches and diversity and it compares and contrasts current leadership practices in the United States (US).
A well as the feelings and the character behind my necklace, there are also tons of memories. Memories are among some of the only things that I have to hold onto of my papa. I have from when I was young of riding four wheelers, fishing, and feeding the dogs with him. I remember how I would always run up to him, throw my arms around him, or hold when he would kiss my forehead, his prickly hairs would rub against me and I would giggle. These memories are one of the most important parts of the necklace and my life would likely be much different if I did not have the piece of
memories they so carefully preserved while also allowing them to showcase their unique life to

There’s various things that describes everyone, but there’s only a few things that make each and every one of us unique, which is, our cultural background. As far as cultural background, it defines the individual’s upbringing. The cultural background includes ones religion, race, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic factors, linguistic and values. These values can be shaped by family, friends, society, or authoritative level. This paper is a great way for one to define my identity or at least understand who I am.
The ancient Greeks loved music so much that they put scenes of music on their pottery. One piece of pottery is a water jug. This piece of pottery has a rounded top with a rigged edge. The neck of the pot is short and comes down into a kind of vase. On the vase, there is a person playing a flute. Another person is holding a lyre, which is a wooden stringed instrument. It looks like a music teacher is teaching a student to play an instrument. The handles on the pot are curved outwards like ears. There are spiral-like designs that go around the neck and center of the pot. The pot is entirely black aside from the pictures around the pot. The pictures stand out because they are in gold. This jug was probably used to collect water for special events. Another piece of pottery is used for storage. This jar has very little inward curved handles on each side of the neck. Around the neck of the jar, it looks like a string of olive leaves. From the neck,
A cultural event that I have attended in the past that has had a memorable affect on my life was a Native American Powwow. This event takes place every year, Thanksgiving weekend in Tucson, AZ. I arrived in the late afternoon, as the sun was going down. I remember seeing many different types of people, from tourists to the different Native American performers. The physical setting of this particular celebration was outside, and based around, one main circle. Drums were beating so loud, you could feel the pound inside your chest. Different activities were going on all around, such as dancers, vendors, and a huge variety of foods to choose from. The circular dancing arena is known as the arbor, this area is blessed before any of the events
On April 11, 2016 I went to the American Indian Spring Celebration of the Heritage Day hosted at South Oval. The American Indian Student Association (AISA) and other various native students’ organizations around the campus have been hosting this event as a one of the significant spring celebrations. Most of the Native American events that took place early in spring share the same purpose. Therefore, the goal of the Heritage Day is to raise awareness of the Native American culture as well as to honor the tribes’ traditions.
The Bohemian design is defined by variety. No matter if you like a calm and peaceful living room, or a bright Moroccan themed one, you have many options and this certain style allows you to make creative choices when it comes to furniture, colors and decorations. It sets off a tone that gives anyone who enters your living room the impression that he/she is in an Eastern country, or it gives a vintage vibe, depending on your specific choices.
