Dental Hygienists have many tasks that need to be done before they can be successful, such as getting their Associate’s Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree, and commonly takes less than three years. The first hygienist was trained by dentists. The 1st school established for dental hygiene and the 1st state legalized the practice of dental hygiene in 1915. Dental nurses began to provide prophylaxis treatment as a method to prevent diseases in the 1880’s. Patient demands were high for esthetic services such as veneers and whitening products.Private offices address concerns over heightened latex sensitivity, and the more nonlatex products were more available. Hygienists remove stains with an air-polishing device, which sprays a combination of air, water, and baking soda. They polish teeth with a powered tool that works like an automatic toothbrush. They use x-ray machines to take pictures to check for tooth or jaw problems.
Dental hygienists held about 200,500 jobs in 2014. Almost all dental hygienists worked in dentists’ offices in 2014. A small number of hygienists worked in other settings, including offices of physicians, outpatient clinics, and schools. Dental hygienists work closely with dentists. I learned in this video that a dental hygienist has to be patient and that they have to clean teeth and put sealants on them and showing the patient proper ways to brush their teeth. There is also X-rays involved as well. Their hours are very flexible and easy to work with. This video showed me that you have to be a very social person and very good and fast with your hands.
A disadvantage would be that there is not a very wide variety of career expansion. An advantage would be great salary. It can be very repetitive as a disadvantage. An advantage would be minimal schooling.
This occupation is something that I have recently wanted to start doing. I have always been fascinated with teeth and how they shift and to always keep them clean and teach about the many different procedures that you need to go through in order to maintain healthy teeth. This project has taught me that I need to be good with patients and understanding them and reading them very well and always making them feel
