April 21, 2012: Frida Giannini, the Gucci creative director, hosted three events in Shanghai. The day started with a morning cocktail party for Chinese actress Li Bing Bing at the historic Wai Tan Yuan. At the event, Gucci’s new advertising campaign starring the Chinese superstar was unveiled. The campaign, shot in London, was run in China beginning in May to promote the 46 Gucci stores in 32 cities. Wai Tan Yuan was then the location of Giannini's first Gucci fashion show in China. 600 invited guests were presented with her Fall/Winter 2012-2013. The collection has not been shown anywhere else outside of Milan. Following the fashion show was a private party dubbed "Gucci Club" on the Rock Bund, with three floors and themes within each. Guests
Nina Simone was one of the most unique, influential, and gifted singers of her generation. She was born on February 21, 1933 as Eunice Waymon, in Tryon, North Carolina. Her mother was a preacher and she started playing piano at an early age, around 3 or 4 at her mother’s church, as she was playing piano at a local recital she caught the eye of an older white woman willing to give her lessons. Nina went on to studying classical piano for 5 years with the woman, learning the stylings of the classical greats such as Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, and Brahms. As a child she felt so isolated, spending up to 7 hours a day practicing the piano, and growing up in the south in the segregation era, she felt as she could not fit in neither with the white or black community, even when surrounded by other children all they wanted to
In 1832 Marie taglioni was the first dancer recorded to dance en pointe. Marie performed the full length La Sylphide en pointe. “Her ballet slippers had a leather sole and some cotton wool for padding but did not have a stiff toe.” According to students at the kennedy center. they have changed over they years, ike in the 1990s makers added plasitic to make a toe cup that you cannot see in the pointe shoe. Still the shoes have made very little changes in the past 100 years.
Diana Frances Spencer was born on July 1, 1961 in Sandringham, United Kingdom to the eighth Earl of Spencer, Edward John Spencer, and Frances Spencer. Diana had four other siblings; Elizabeth, Cynthia, John, and Charles. In 1967, Frances Spencer left Edward for Peter Shand-Kydd. Frances and Edward divorced in 1969. The children stayed with Edward and, in 1976, Edward married Raine, Countess of Dartmouth. After the death of Diana’s grandfather, the seventh Earl of Spencer, the family moved to the Althorp house in Northamptonshire.1
A long time ago, there lived a girl named Gianna. Gianna was an African-American girl who lived in Mississippi. When Gianna was born, slavery was starting to slow down. Gianna’s mother and father were slaves for Adam Jackal, a very wealthy merchant. Mr. Jackal was very strict and abusive. When Jackal found out that Gianna’s mother was pregnant, he made her work harder. Even as a little girl, Gianna had hard labor as a child all the way up till she was 16 years old.
Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderon, known as Frida Kahlo, was born on July 6, 1907, in Coyoacan., Msx. Frida is one of Mexico’s greatest artist. She was known for her self-portraits.
The mexican revolution started in 1910, three years after Frida Kahlo was born. Frida is one of mexico's famous artist knowns for rebellious attitude and iconic self portraits, with 143 painting and 55 self portraits. Frida wasn't afraid to show her life story through her paintings.
1. Frida Kahlo is one not only Mexico's most iconic artists, but one of the world's most iconic artists as well. She was born on July 6, 1907 in Coyocoan Mexico City, Mexico. Her father was of German descent and migrated to Mexico where he met her mother, who was half Spanish and half AmerIndian. She also had three sisters. Frida was always very close to her father, and was very proud of her Mexican heritage. During her childhood, she contracted a disease called Polio. She was very ill and had to stay in bed for a whole 9 months. The disease caused her right leg to become much skinnier and weaker than the left one. She had a permanent limp because of it and always wore long skirts to hide it. She met her future husband, Diego Rivera, when she was in preparatory school. One day in 1922, she was on a Bus and got in a horrific accident. She was severely injured, as a steel rail impaled her through the hip. During her period of recovery is when she began to paint her famous self-portraits. Frida and Diego reconnected in 1928 and them married in 1929. Their marriage, however, wasn't a healthy one. Diego cheated on Frida many times and they lived in separate houses. Frida, given her condition was always very depressed. She sadly passed away in 1954. Her death was reported to be caused by a pulmonary embolism, but many suspect her death may not have been accidental.
Tragedy, a crippling experience many people endure in life, yet some give up and the courageous few fight back. Frida Kahlo exemplifies the strength required to express oneself openly and boldly, sharing her painful life through paintings. Kahlo is one of the most famous female painters from Mexico and is known for her mutilating, heartbreaking and courageous self-portraits of her life. Through her various paintings and self portraits, she has created a journal and self-biography of her life that will give her immortality and inspire future generations of artists. Frida Kahlo has become an icon of female creativity from her emotionally charged paintings of her life, unfortunate tragedies and battle of survival. Kahlo was never a woman of conventional ways. She was bold with her art and views of politics as well as being eccentric from what was expected of a female in Mexico.
Frida Kahlo was a very talented Mexican artist that revolutionized art at a very young age. Her work is still idolized and celebrated today and is studied by many artists, institutes of higher education, museums, and fans. Kahlo was born in the town of Coyoacan, Mexico on July the sixth in the year of 1907 (Kettenmann 3). She made around 143 paintings, and out of those 143 paintings, 55 were self-portraits that included symbolism of her physical and emotion pain. Furthermore, in her portraits she used symbolism to express her wounds and sexuality. She use to say: “I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality” (Fuentes 41). Frida Kahlo is considered to be one of Mexico’s greatest artists. Frida Kahlo is mostly remembered for her self-portraits. She once said, “I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best.” Frida Kahlo had an exotic look that was captivating.
Frida Kahlo was one of the most influential female artists in the twentieth century. Being a woman in a misogynistic career, Kahlo did not experience the fame she has today while she was still alive. Through her captivating paintings she reveals the dark side of life, relating to her own experiences. Many articles, bibliographies, movies, and even Frida Kahlo’s diary have been published for scholars, artists, and feminists to discuss the influence Kahlo had on art and society. Although the movie Frida was released forty-eight years after Frida Kahlo’s death, the movie accurately depicts her dismal life and her connection to her artwork.

I had truly enjoyed your class this summer and I am glad I was able to take your course because it really opened my eyes to the importance of understanding Frida Kahlo as an individual as well as the history and culture that is behind each piece of art. It also was an important reminder to seek out learning opportunities when it comes to other countries histories. It is incredibly important and I am thankful that I had the opportunity to take a course that examined Mexico's culture and history. On my way back home, I was able to stop in New York to visit the museum of modern art to look at some of Frida's art. I was able to take so much more away from the pieces
