The presence of a passive audience facilitates the better performance of any show and encourages the performers to do well. In most cases, the success of any show, such as a comedy show, a dancing show, or a singing show depends on the audience. Vaudeville acts were not very famous until Keith and Albee, two entrepreneurs and the main characters in the second chapter, Vaudeville INC., of Robert Snyder’s book the Voice of the city, teamed up and reshaped the style of Vaudeville. In addition to their motivation to increase the popularity of vaudeville theater performances, “the middle class audiences” made a huge impact on vaudeville acts by attending them in great numbers. The development of vaudeville marked the beginning of popular entertainment as big business and demonstrated the changing tastes of an urban middle class audience. Keith and Albee made the tickets for vaudeville acts very inexpensive, ten cents a seat, and attracted the middle class. Shirley Staples, the author of Male-female comedy teams in American vaudeville,
If you are not familiar with what Show Choir is, and the amount of time and work ethic you need, then you are in for a big surprise. Show Choir has evolved over the past years increasingly. Forget the young men and women in dark jackets and dresses standing on old risers and singing nice choral pieces. Show Choir has become a mini-musical sport. Many claim that Cheerleading and Marching Band is considered a sport, why should Show Choir be any different? Yes, show choir is mostly singing and dancing, but there is much more to it than one would think. I would know this because Show Choir has been a part of my life for almost 3 years now. I have experienced the hardship, fun, disappointment, pain, time, and joy, but it all paid off at competition when we would go to awards and see how we placed. Show choir is a sport, just as much as “cheerleading” or “marching band.”
I chose to join show choir because I thought it would be a good way for me to leave my comfort zone and try something new and fun. The first time I thought of auditioning for show choir was when I saw them perform during my sophomore year. They sang and danced to a song titled, "Till the Love Runs Out" and the sound and choreography they did just blew me away. I knew then that I wanted to be a part of that choir.
From an early age, I loved to perform. Being the youngest girl with three older brothers, I could never get enough attention; This meant singing, dancing and being extremely outgoing to get everyone’s eyes on me. I still hear stories about my younger self dancing in front of mirrors, babbling about my dream of being a “star”. It wasn’t until much later, however, that I found I could put my love of performing to use.
The first principle is to involve infants and toddlers in things that concern them. Don't work around them or distract them to get the job done faster (Gonzalez-Mena & Eyer, 2015, p. 5). For this principle I can involve infants and toddlers when I feed or change their diapers by talking to them when changing their diaper and telling them what each their eating.
It was amazing to see how all of the children came together to perform this show. They all have unique talents such as the ability to sing or play a musical instrument. When talking about one of the boys, the teacher said that if he was not autistic, just imagine the possibilities he could have. However, this boy still has so many possibilities ahead of him. Just because he is different, it does not mean that he cannot achieve greatness. One thing I learned from the children was that they really just want someone to listen to them and to be present on their level. This was shown through Neal’s comment towards his mother about wanting her to listen to him more. Just because he could not communicate, did not mean he did not have interests or preferences that he wanted her to know about. By being present with them at the level they are at, shows the children that we care about the things they care about and it is a way
On March 17, 2014, the Plaza Theatre presented the Broadway show “Bring it On The Musical” with lyrics of Lin Manuel Miranda and Amanda Green, music of Tom Kitt and Jeff Whitty as librettist, inspired in “Bring it On” 2000’s film. Is a story that talks about the competitiveness of the cheerleader world and rivalries between young high school teenagers. This essay will provide a brief of the show and also a review of the lighting fixtures used during the play according to the mood and emotions desired to transmit to the audience.
With balloons and lights everywhere, kids had fun dancing the night away with their friends and/or dates. The DJ hired played good quality music throughout the night that got almost everyone on their feet.
Vaudeville, the forgotten type of theatre. During the mid-1800’s, people from across the world were starting to settle in the United States. The newly found ‘spike’ of the diversity of cultures and population, vaudeville quickly became the central point for the American cultural life.
YES! Even though they did NOT feature my project or announce me as a winner in any way on the show, I DID get an email confirming me as the third place winner in the Art of ReUse contest. I am so pleased because this item was something that I threw together at the last minute. I only had about 12 personal friends who voted for me, so this means that I must have had a decent number of honest-to-goodness EARNED votes! That makes me feel good, that people went and the selected it because they liked it, even though they had no idea who I was or anything about me. Then of course there was the whole saga where I was the only finalist not mentioned on the Today show, still not sure why, maybe because mine required a dog? Needless to say, I was SHOCKED to find out that I had placed at all!
This year has flown by quickly and sometimes I wonder where all the time went. When I first got my classes I was nervous because most of them were honors with two pre-AP classes. I learned that the classes were not hard if I studied and did my work. I wanted to drop out of my English class but my mother convinced me to stay in. My favorite class was science because we were always doing something interesting and I connected well with everyone. I got the opportunity to be in the school’s Show Choir which was amazing. I feel sad because in our Show Choir we are mostly composed of seniors so I got used to them and now I will miss them terribly. I feel like they were my second family.
At 7:00pm on the 30th of March, I had the opportunity to attend Ms. Harrison 's 5th graders perform, “The Snow Queen” at McGraw Elementary School. This performance was classified as an original musical. However, I would categorize this type of program as a story-based program. The majority of each scene consisted of spoken dialogue, acting and dance scenes. There was beautiful scenery and costumes that were presented during this program as well. Since there were only two scenes that involved singing, it was difficult to gage the level of musicianship the students had. In addition, the two scenes that involved singing, were done by the same two girls. However, the students were able to show their musicianship in other ways like dancing.
All civilizations that have ever existed in the world have had their own unique forms of art that distinguish each from the other. This has been evident in trends such as culture, religion, economics and even art and architecture. The influence that Ancient Greeks had on architecture is enormous and has influenced modern day architecture all around the world. They were the first to look at buildings as not only a place to live, work and worship the Gods, but also a way of communicating to generations and civilizations to come, ancient Greek beliefs and philosophy. More specifically, the Greek temple is the most distinguished and influential form of public religious architecture in the history of
The great field of mathematics stretches back in history some 8 millennia to the age of primitive man, who learned to count to ten on his fingers. This led to the development of the decimal scale, the numeric scale of base ten (Hooper 4). Mathematics has grown greatly since those primitive times, in the present day there are literally thousands of laws, theorems, and equations which govern the use of ten simple symbols representing the ten base numbers. The field of mathematics is ever changing, and therefor, there is a great demand for mathematicians to keep improving our skills in utilizing the numeric system. Many great people, both past and present, have made great contributions to the field.
This semester I have experience many live musical performances. Some of these performances have let me down but for the most part, these performances have been everything I ever expected. My two favorite performances this semester were Festival Vallenato and Ultra Music Festival. Although these two types of music are different in every way possible, the people and the performers are exactly where I feel I am in the right place.
