Katherine Tekakwitha, known to Catholics as St. Kateri Tekakwitha and called by them the “Lily of the Mohawks,” was born at Ossernenon (now Auriesville, New York) in 1656. Her mother, Tagaskouita, was an Alqonquin native American and a Christian. Her father, Kenneronkwa, was a Mohawk chief and followed traditional native practices. She received her given name of “Tekakwitha” (which means “she who bumps into things”) after a bout with smallpox when she was four damaged her eyesight and scarred her face. The epidemic ravaged the Mohawk population around Ossernon until 1663 and claimed both her parents and brother. Tekawitha was adopted by an aunt and her husband, chief of the Turtle clan. The survivors relocated to Caughnawaga (“wild water” in Mohawk) two miles upstream on the Mohawk river.

Narcissa Prentiss was born to Judge Stephen and Clarrisa Prentiss in Prattsburgh, New York, on March 14, 1808. She was the third of nine children, and oldest of five girls. At a young age, she joined the Second Great Awakening, and decided it was her calling to become a missionary. She was accepted into the missionary service in March 1835, and was educated at the Franklin Acedemy in Prattsburgh. Shortly afterward, she was married to Dr. Marcus Whitman. The form of government that Lena Landia has is a democracy. This type of government includes a president. The president is selected by the people living in the civilization over 15 years old. Two people will be chosen by the former president to be part of the election. All people over the age of 15 will send a letter to the main house, where the president lives, and they will be hand counted after everyone has had a chance to vote. About a week later, the new president will be announced at a civilization gathering and he/she will be officially the new president of Lena Landia. The president's main responsibilities are to run the entire civilization making its laws and rights that all people must follow. These laws include the 10 Commandments.

Legends are based on history, people embellishing the stories, and people telling them and retelling them differently. Myths are based on religion, supernatural beings, gods and demigods, and also explains natural phenomenon. Fairy Tales are based on magic, good vs. evil, fantastic elements, magical or imaginary creatures, and teaches a lesson or universal truth.
