Darlene, this a good post. I do not think God places favor over undeveloped countries, and I am a firm believer that God still operates in our society. I remember one day when I was driving home after picking up my daughter from daycare and I was in a rush to get home. I was held up at daycare with converstation. As I was going west bound, there was a truck that was going eastbound. It was a few mintues of head of me on the other side of the street and it was hauling a refrigator. Somehow the refrigator was flown out of the truck into the upcoming traffic and it is flipped across the intersection. If I wasn't held up at my daughter's daycare and if I was a few minutes early, the refrigator would have crushed the windshield of my car and probably
In the article “Lifeboat Ethics: the Case Against Helping the Poor”, the author Garrett Hardin raised the question that whether the rich countries should help people suffer from poverty. He claimed that the supporting strategies for the developing countries, including the World Food Bank could result in more severe recourse inadequate issue and other disasters. In addition, a large number of immigrants flood in the US could ruin the natural environment and social balance. In that case, the author argued that regardless of the current situation, privileged nations should not provide aid to people trapped within difficulties of the underdeveloped nations. Even though, his

With many families in the world starving and/ or dealing with diseases they don’t know how to cure, but with money provided they would be able to get it under control at least a start. Then we have the people in the states who are more worried about the fact that they don’t have the newest iPhone, which note, is not a life or death necessity. How are we to justify the fact that we are able to spend all the money we have on unnecessary items and the people in North Korean or parts in Africa can barely or many not even be able to afford food for the day to survive. As Peter Singer states “We cannot dis criminate against someone merely because he is far away... We are in a better position to judge what needs to be done to help a person near to us than one far away” (Singer P.2). Alongside this statement it shows that distance
A couple years ago, I noticed something while my mother was taking me to the mall. It was an indigent man with a sign stating “Help me”. Often as a child, I wanted to assist needy individuals around me. This seemed like a substantial opportunity to make that into a reality, I opened my car window and held out change. He came running and took the money while uttering the words “God Bless You”. This hit me hard. I thought about this for a while and it occurred to me that we take our lives for granted, but don’t realize that millions and millions of people cannot enjoy life because money is an immense need. In third world countries, there are not enough money and facilities available. Being born and growing up in Canada, I didn't realize that
We've all heard of the Roomba Vacuum, and can agree that it is pretty decent at its job of vacuuming any type of floor. However, what if we made an innovation. The Moppu Vacuum.
MEDC’s use more energy than LEDC’s as they have the money and resources to do so. Certain energy practices that are not sustainable to the environment may get more attention than others, as they are more financially feasible for the country. This raises the question: to what extent are equality and liberty compatible? I would argue to a very small extent. We live in a world in which every issue is tightly tied to politics. If a certain energy practice is not economically desirable, despite its benefit to the environment, it will be discarded. This represents how money equals power, therefore more liberty. A country like the United States, has enough wealth to where it doesn’t need to worry about its energy consumption. However, LEDC’s often go without energy and their energy consumption is often much lower than that of MEDC’s. This data challenges a lot of the ideals we hold in American culture. We often don’t think about how our actions impact the livelihoods of communities in the developing world. This idea can be connected back on a local level, including the spot I have chosen for my sense of
There is nothing more annoying than waking up to find your air conditioner has malfunctioned. Knowing who to call at this point is important. Nowadays, we are in such a rush to progress that we would rather not help our neighbor just so we have more time to help ourselves. That is not what we are designed for.
The qualities that it takes to murder a king are not present in Lady Macbeth.
Imagine being told you may have only one meal a week or that the water you are drinking is contaminated and there is no medical assistance to treat you for the bacteria you just ingested. For many of us, this is not an issue, in fact we probably don’t even think about it on a daily basis. Unfortunately, a lack of shelter, food, clean water, and medical care is the norm for many in our world. Be it falling on hard times, war, acts of nature, or simply not enough resources, there are millions of people that go without the basic necessities every day. The question is are we morally obligated to provide for those less fortunate than ourselves if we have the means to do so? I believe the answer to be yes. If we are able, we ought to assist those less fortunate in every way possible because a need for basic items is a global problem that affects us in ways we don’t realize, ignoring the issue and allowing another human, children in particular, to be denied the basics for survival is our moral duty.

I agree with Hardin's lifeboat theory. Hardin's "lifeboat morals" paper contends that affluent countries, much the same as rafts, have constrained limit and that respecting extra individuals would sink the pontoon. He additionally keeps up that passing keeps overpopulation from wrecking the planet's assets, as there's no ethical obligation to give help. In any case, he was agreeable to sending out innovation to help poorer nations produce their own
In his essay “Lifeboat Ethics”, Garrett Hardin evaluates weather the rich nations of the world should help the poor nations, and predicts what the effects of helping may have on future generations. Hardin applies lifeboat ethics as a way of evaluating the worlds resource distribution. In the metaphor, rich countries have seats on the boat (resources) and poor countries are in the water (without resources). Hardin suggests that when rich countries help the poor they worsen situation by unsustainably stretching out finite resources to the point of collapse.
Utilitarians would not find the unclean water in Flint, Michigan as injustice because it’s not affecting the entire country as a whole. Meanwhile the other individuals who are not present in the region of Flint are still able to maximize their happiness, utilitarians would be fine with what is happening in Flint. But, while it may be easy to not take action and appease the rest of the population’s happiness, it could possibly end up creating an even
If you were made to sit in front of the TV and count how many ads that mentioned beauty or anything to do with appearance you problem wouldn’t have enough fingers to count. There is thousands of products or images that mention beauty and physical attractiveness. To be honest the importance of beauty has always been around us every step of the way. For instance little girls playing with dolls or dress up is an example. We follow and look up to our mothers as role model and beauty figure. Another example is when little boys see their fathers put on a tie or watch them tie their shoe. As we grow up our parents teach us about the importance of hygiene. Which is shown through baths, brushing teeth, brushing hair, and etc. The importance of appearance in our lives can determine our lifespan and can be beneficial in other ways.
