Roald Dahl
After reading one of his books, at age 8, I knew Roald Dahl was a great author and that I could learn a lot from him. Roald Dahl is one of my favorite authors and I have read most of his books. He was born September 13, 1916 in Llandaff, Cardiff, United Kingdom. When Roald Dahl went to his first school he and his friends always went to a sweet shop on the way there and back. The shop was owned by a gross, old woman. The boys found a dead mouse and they put it in one of the candy jars. They got caught the next day and for the first and not the last time, they were whipped by a cane. In world war 2 Roald Dahl flew as a RAF. He injured his spine after a forced landing. Roald Dahl began writing as a child, but he published his first

One of the most prolific and widely successful young adult authors, Walter Dean Myers, was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia in 1937. Born into an impoverished family, Myers’s mother died when he was only two, forcing his father to give up custody of him to foster parents Herbert and Florence Dean. Growing up, Myers spent a majority of his childhood in Harlem, New York where his loving foster parents introduced him to reading. At this time, Myers also began writing to overcome his severe speech impediment.
There are soccer moms, stay-at-home moms, working moms, “cool” moms, and many other types that are at war with each other on how to raise children. Along with the many types of moms, there are hundreds of different types of kids. There is no reason for one parent to tell another on how to raise their child, because each kid is unique. On the finish line, I don’t think it matters how many soccer games the mom went to or if the child was sent to daycare. The quality time that mothers and children from 0-18 has an impact on the child’s life. However, the amount of time that they spend together does not have much of an influence for the future.
Theodore Seuss Giesel, often referred to by his family and friends as Ted, better known to his fan as Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was married twice, never having any children of his own but acquiring two step children with his second marriage. When asked why he became a children’s writer, he would reluctantly answer that he became a children’s writer because of his great understanding of children, then proceed into detail of the real story. He worked for a publication company by the name of Flit which placed strict rules and prohibitions on his work. However, they failed to prohibit the writing of children’s books so that is the route which Dr. Seuss took. His first book, An ABC of Fanciful Creatures was rejected by many publishers. After a rocky start, Dr. Seuss went on to publish many children’s books including And to Think That I Saw It on

A childhood such as Truman Capote (Born in New Orleans in 1924) is hard to believe because of the type of writer he was. Capote was abandoned by his mother and raised by his aunts and cousins in Monroeville, Alabama. As a child he lived a very lonely life. He struggled with dealing with the fact that his mother abandoned him. Due to this emptiness was what led him to become a writer. He (Capote) states “I began writing really sort of seriously when I was about eleven. I say seriously in the sense that like other kids go home and practice the violin or the piano or whatever; I used to go home from school every day and I would write for about three hours. I was obsessed by it”, he was definitely decided to be

Little Red Riding Hood is a fairytale known worldwide about an innocent little girl and a big bad wolf, or so it seems. Deeper investigation into the hidden meanings of this age-old ever changing fairy tale reveals many different tales all together; where the character’s true intentions and character traits might surprise you. Ralph Waldo said, “unless you try to do things beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.” I agree with Ralph Waldo, push yourself to do greater things. Ralph Waldo said it right, if you don't push for greater things you will not succeed. One reason is, to be a greater person push further than what you have already accomplished. You will never get better if you keep doing the same ole thing. People who don't settle for the easy way are stronger.
To be honest, summer reading is a pain and reading not usually the most fun thing to do to me. Reading a boring book and then doing a big assignment about the book. But it is required to enter the grade and will have to do it. But this book was different from the other books that are usually required to read from. This is the part where you laugh is by far the most entertaining and interesting book I’ve read before. Not only did this book peak my interest by a good amount of the book is about basketball but just journey that Travis went on during that summer was amazing to read. This book is valuable for freshmen to learn about the important concept of the human condition because sadness, anger, love are all characteristic traits, feelings,
Red Riding Hood by the Grimm Brothers may be a bedtime story for little children, but I have always known that there was more to this story than it lets on. It seems too dark to just be a lesson about listening to your parents. Upon reading it again at the age of seventeen, however, I can finally see other possible meanings to the classic tale. The one that screamed out at me the most: rape.
