In order to survive in these harsh conditions, animals need adaptations. An ecosystem is a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment. In order to survive in the neritic zone with predators, sea floor hiders, and other environmental threats, animals need adaptations.

People may call a lamprey a monster from the deep. They might think this because a lamprey looks almost something out of a science fiction movie. If you think that a lamprey looks like a monster then think about the meaning of the word, “Monster.” According to Dictionary.com, the word monster means, “A legendary creature or ugly creature or just something out of the ordinary.” Think about the word legendary. Is a lamprey legendary? No, because a lamprey is a real animal. So in conclusion, we know that a lamprey is most definitely not a monster.

It’s a beautiful day at the beach, the sun is shining down on you as you float and drift on top of the waves. As you lay there without a care in the world, you are suddenly interrupted by a massive swarm of jellyfish; also known as a bloom. Not only does this send you into sudden terror, it also causes a much bigger threat to the ecosystem below you. The excessive growth of jellyfish swarm drastically lowers the population of fish eggs in the ecosystem. Because of this, fishermen lose millions of dollars. People in local communities are figuring out ways to solve this mass production.

Most people would not appreciate a stranger walking into their home unannounced, taking their food, and making themselves at home. That is exactly what lionfish are doing along the Florida coastline. Lionfish are an invasive species that need to be contained. The reefs that they consistently invade off of the coast of the Florida are not the lionfish's natural habitat. This invasive species takes shelter and resources out of the reef that other species need to survive, and they destroy the environment around them. Humans have complicated the balance of the ecosystem by introducing lionfish, and now they need to help rectify the situation.

In Maine, people are wondering why there are so many lobster appearances when fishing. The reason for this is because in Vinalhaven Island, Lobster fishing trucks has been piling up relentlessly on the daily commerce roads, and new fishing boats have been occupying in the harbor. Fishing companies has been fishing for more lobsters, causing catches to rise up rather quickly. Everyone however are expecting for the new development to drop once again, before this could happen. Much of this life has yet to be explored but we still know that beneath the waves exist the most beautiful creatures and the most bizarre. Magical areas such as the coral reef and mysterious areas such as the depths of the ocean are homes to over 700,000 species that live in the ocean. This includes the eighty percent of the ocean that has yet to be explored. Even though there may be separate oceans on this planet, they are still interconnected by a body of salt water. No area of the ocean is the same, which brings us to the wonderful fact that so many different species are able to flourish

While an adult may only live between one and two years, it can kill over 40 pounds of fish. Additionally, there are certain locations where the parasites are so malevolent that only around 15% of the host fish will survive after the lamprey has had its fill. Never before had parasitism occurred on such a level in the great lakes. It was as though the native species of fish had come in contact with the plague. Ultimately, the sea lamprey feed on any large species of fish within their path. In the case of the great lakes this includes: Catfish, Lake Trout, Steelhead (Rainbow Trout), Walleye, Burbot, Whitefish, and Chubs.

It was interesting to read that the hypothesis provided by the scientists turned out to be opposite of what happened to Valley Creek. The macroinvertebrates were already living in a low quality creek full of pollution, so I would have also expected their population to decrease after introducing a predator to their environment. Item or food picked: American Lobster (Homarus americanus) The Lobster is one of the most valuable seafood exports around the world. With a reported value of $ 1 billion worth of exports and a general upward trend of desire (See figure 1), the lobster might be one of the most interesting foods in the market [1]. In addition to being one of my favourite foods, the reason why I chose to talk about lobster is because it is one of those foods that remind me of my childhood, as I spend some of my younger years living in Maine. This animal that is only found in the Atlantic cost of North America, with its main exporters being Maine, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

The objective of this project was to cook, and serve lobster utilizing a method, which was given, to prepare the lobster as well as a recipe for the lobster. In addition to this we also needed to create rice pilaf, asparagus, and a vinaigrette salad using the various ingredients provided to us. This project is supposed to give us our first glimpse into implementing our newly found skills from Culinary class into our cooking lifestyle at home.

Ever since a young age, I have been extremely interested in ocean life. Due to annual summer beach trips, I was exposed to aquatic life often as a child and became very comfortable in and around water. My interest in the ocean is the main reason that I can see myself as a marine biologist in the future. Another trait of mine that contributed to this career choice is that I enjoy working with others, but also work well independently. My species is the Ocellaris Clownfish! This is the one that looks like Nemo on Finding Nemo. Its body is an oval shape and has three vertical white stripes outlined with a fine black line. They are saltwater fish and live in an anemone. They live in a core habitat. They have symbiotic relationship with the sea anemone. The anemone gets pesits it doesn't want living on it off of it, and the clown fish gets protection from the tentacles of the anemone. Young clownfish have difficulty finding an anemone to live in.
