Mali is a country in the West of Africa and incredibly the eighth largest country in the whole of the country. Mali was actually once one of the richest countries due to its salt mines. Salt was so valuable that people would trade a whole pound of gold for a whole pound of salt.
The proles were subjected to do a mandatory exercise in the morning in front of a party member on a telescreen. The living conditions of the people were controlled and there were hidden microphones that assisted in psychological manipulation. In Oceania the people were brainwashed, the party controlled their language, historical records , and thought. The proles worked in cubicles changing the words in the newspaper so it would be in favor of big brother. The party also commands that all loyalty must be given to big brother. The people are not even allowed to believe in god, if they do so they will be placed in jail to be be tortured or they will be killed. Robert Mugabe spent ten years in prison before assuming the presidency of Zimbabwe. Instead of learning from his time in prison, he brought all his poor habits of corruption to the country of Zimbabwe (“Zimbabwe’s” 1). During his powerful rule, Zimbabwe faced many different situations within his country. Within the first few years of Mugabe being president, Zimbabwe started to have some political and economical issues. Whether or not the issues are a direct correlation to Mugabe being president is unknown, but the timing is impeccable. Money was starting to disappear within the government causing an economic crisis, and Zimbabwe was having massive poverty and inflation increases. Sierra Leone is a country with much history. It has many historical sites and great mines that contain so much “treasure”. Its economy is still growing and they’re trying to improve themselves. They’re a diverse country with different ethnic groups and languages but socially and culturally they can agree on the way they eat, what type of music they like, and what they do for fun. This country is unique and is growing from the past to a modern future.
The Republic of Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa where the power lies with the people. They have a governmental system which is somewhat similar to that of the United States. They hold elections, have certain requirements for candidates and have two primary political parties, though a third is fighting for a chance in power. It is divided into several districts and provinces and has fairly good relations with many other countries. Sierra Leone is also existing proof that colonization can have beneficial effects on a country without nearly, or completely, eliminating a way of life.
Angola is the seventh largest country in the continent of Africa with much diversity in its culture throughout its areas. Angola is located in the south western part of Africa, along the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. With over 21 million people, Angola many norms and values that are not seen in the United States’ culture.
I was thrilled to discover that Doctors Without Borders is in need of more emergency physicians, which I found out about on doctorswithoutborders.org. I’ve always dreamt of traveling to different countries and helping underprivileged communities and this would be the perfect opportunity for me to do so. With my extensive skills and experience in emergency medicine and a passion for helping others, I am immensely qualified for this position.
There are many humanitarian groups out there, but what exactly is a humanitarian group? Well it is a group of people that have an urge to help the community and the people in it. They do all sorts of things like help the poor and the less fortunate. They also run different programs like if you need counseling or help getting back on your feet after an addiction or disaster. But is that really all there is to a humanitarian group?
In early 1991 Sierra Leone had an outbreak of civil war was economically and politically on the edge of collapsing due to the twenty four years of exploitation and misrule under Siaka Stevens and Joseph Saidu Momoh who was his chosen successor, and had left the country heavily dependent on foreign aid and loans. The state was divided between the client of the All People’s Party regime, a growing number of a bitter political and business rivals, mismanagement and corruption.
Doctors Without Borders was founded in 1971 by a group of 12 French doctors. The doctors worked with the Red Cross providing medical aid during the Nigerian civil war in Biafra. These doctors witnessed the starvation of many civilians, and they were seeing the Nigerian government commit genocide against its people. But the Red Cross had a policy to remain silent about what it witnessed in the field and required its volunteers to sign a contract saying they would obey the policy. It was this policy, as well as the inability to intervene without approval from the country’s government, that caused these doctors to deem the Red Cross obsolete. These doctors sought an alternative: a humanitarian aid organization that would provide medical relief
The residents of Africa are suffering from preventable, treatable, and fatal diseases everyday at a higher rate compared to developed countries. The healthcare crisis in Africa is the primary cause of all these deaths, and includes inefficient healthcare systems. Consequently, African's inefficient healthcare systems results in poor delivery of care and a shortage of health professionals. The healthcare crisis in Africa is a current issue impacting the lives of many African's who don't have the same access to resources as developed countries such as the United States. These resources can save the lives of many African's dying of preventable and curable disease, and understanding why the African continent has little access to them
