INTRODUCTION

With online reading growing ever more popular, people no longer depend on bookstores as the only source of reads. As technological advances are being developed every day, books are now being viewed and shared online. Nowadays, reading and gathering information has become more easily accessible and free of charge.

And with their background as mobile application developers, Lau and Yuen developed the site onto mobile phones especially for people who do not have computers and want to read stories conveniently amidst other busy activities (“How Wattpad CEO”, 2014).
What makes Wattpad a social media platform is that users do not simply create stories for people to read – users can also interact with fellow content creators and comment on their works. And unlike other online writing communities which have a more professional atmosphere especially for freelance writers, Wattpad is designed in a way that gives them freedom to express their stories in whatever way – and language – they want.
