To most of the world, Hezbollah is known as a Lebanese Shiite militia that takes an anti-western stance, and despises Israel and the United States. To the Arabs, Hezbollah is known as a resistance group that provides socioeconomic and social services to Shiite communities is southern Lebanon.# The group as been held accountable for several attacks against Israel and Western targets, but yet provides social services in Lebanon by running hospitals, schools, orphanages, and media outlets. It has adopted the strategy of constantly altering public opinion by using a mixture of political and ideological agendas.# The group has adopted the strategy it has in order to continue growing and to remain relevant in both Lebanon and the global sphere,
Hezbollah is a terrorist organization that originated in Lebanon in 1982. In just more than twenty years Hezbollah has proved itself to be an effective terrorist organization. Hezbollah is much more than just a terrorist organization. In Lebanon it has become a major political party and social force to be reckoned with, as well as a major supporter of other terrorist groups. Hezbollah is a powerful organization and this power has led to its dominance in the world of terror.
Terrorism within or against the United States is not a new phenomenon. Our history is well documented with thousands of attempts and actual acts of terrorism that happened on U.S. soil. The first act of terrorism can be traced back to 1865 with the assassination of President Lincoln, but the first and boldest foreign terrorist attack occurred in New York City on February 26, 1993. Over 1,000 people were injured and six were killed when a group of Islamic terrorists detonated a rental truck equipped with explosives underneath the World Trade Center. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) later discovered that the explosion at the World Trade Center was a dress rehearsal for the most devastating and deadly terrorist attack to reach our nation,
Hezbollah is regarded as an "A" grade team of terrorists with highly trained operatives throughout the globe (Byman, 2003). The author outlines that the organization has the open support of Syria and Iran. They are experts in terrorism as well as guerilla warfare.
Terrorism in the Middle East has brought the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the attention of the world. These terrorist groups use murder, bombs, threats, and other violent acts to get their way politically. Hamas, the organization that has replaced Fatah as the representative of the Palestinians, is a leading sponsor of terrorism. The Hamas are the leading reason there is not peace in the middle east as they strongly embrace terrorism.
The use of the Hezbollah has greatly added to the continuation of the Arab-Israeli conflict and has limited cooperation in all regions. The Hezbollah also attracted U.S. attention after a suicide bomber killed over two hundred Marines in Beirut.
Hezbollah, a Lebanese-based political organization, has tried to increase its influence in the country of Lebanon, but they have continued military and terrorist operations against Israel and the West. It is estimated by the United States government "estimates that Hezbollah's weapons arsenal includes 40,000 to 80,000 short and long range rockets, as well as anti-aircraft, anti-tank, and anti-ship weapons" (CFR.org Staff, 2010). The fact that a supposed political organization has access to this
I enjoy reading your post. Hezbollah's military strength has grown so significantly that its paramilitary wing is considered more powerful than the
Syria and Lebanon are two dramatically different states with a deeply intertwined history. They were both born out of French interventionism following World War 1, and have experienced complex and strained relations ever since. The two nations have both experienced prodigious political turmoil since gaining their independence, with both suffering from civil wars and conflict with their mutual neighbor, Israel. The war and turmoil that has plagued these two countries can be traced back to various competing national interests, as well as a struggle for regional power. The various religious groups in the area have historically formed transnational advocacy networks with the intent of influencing regional politics. These groups have proved to of been a major factor in the history of both nations.
When the Iranian Revolution succeeded in 1979, Iran wanted to gain the admiration and the support of Arab countries, benefiting in particular from the support by the Shah of Iran and his relationship with Israel before the collapse of his regime. On this very first day of the victory of the revolution, Iran was keen to extend its bonds with the Islamic world, and when this was not possible in most cases, because of many complex causes of the revolution, Iran began to look for «organizations» instead of «regime’s or countries», in order to continue its role in Islamic issues. Iran was keen to show that this role was one of the foundations of the revolution and its beliefs, in
They were the first to use suicide bomb attacks, and also the first to use women in these attacks. They have been responsible for countless assassinations, hundreds of suicides, and the lost lives of over 70,000 citizens.
Al-Qaeda’s target and nemesis; the United States Government and the people that support the government. The main problem to al-Qaeda is the US government. According to bin Laden by being loyal to the US regime, you have committed an act against Islam. (Information Clearing House, 1997). This jihad was now personal, due to the United States supporting the Israelis, bin Laden could take no more. Dating back to 1982, before the organization of al-Qaeda, America placed gruesome scenes in bin Laden’s head that he could not forgive. America gave the Israelis the green light to invade Lebanon and the American Sixth Fleet helped them. “I cannot forget those unbearable scenes of blood and severed limbs, the corpses of women and children strewn everywhere, houses destroyed along with their occupants and high-rise buildings burying their residents, rockets raining down on your land without mercy.” (Milelli, 2008) A holy war has started, any allies of the United States was in al-Qaeda’s path of destruction.
I agree with your post classifying Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Hezbollah is primarily against Israel however, they will fight anyone that doesn’t believe or think like them. “Hezbollah began as a social movement gravitating around young Shi’ites ready to resist the Israelis. Initially, it was little more than an idea, but small unorganized groups began to fight. Their attacks were characterized by extreme violence and heated rhetoric.” (White, 2014 p. 224) They have proven over and over that they are a terrorist organization by how they carry out their attacks over the past thirty years or so. From the bombing of the Marine barracks to launching rockets into Israel. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation
Hezbollah suicide bomb attack on June 18 2012, in Sarafovo Airport in Bulgaria, in which five Israeli citizens were killed in that attack.
