Children should be restricted to the amount of time spent in front of any media screen. There are many health reasons, developmental reasons, and educational reasons as to why children shouldn’t be in front of media screens. Health is a very important thing, whether it is physical, or emotional, or even mental health. When children spend up to seven hours of screen time a day, it takes a toll on their bodies, and their minds. The artifical light from the screens confuses their body clocks, which can disrupt their sleeping schedule. Spending time in front of a TV screen sucks the mental energy and causes depression, especially at night. Plus, children sitting down and watching You Tube videos or watching Netfix can cause obesity
Some people think kids should not be aloud to have tv or gaming equipment in their bedroom. I think kids should, some people strongly believe they should not have tv or gaming in their bedroom.
One reason why i believe children should be restricted from spening time in front of the media screens is because they take away from the children physicsal activite time. Children this days spend more time inside watching tv or playing video games then outside begin physical. children need to be health and fit thats why they should at least spend some time outside begin physical. Now, let me tell you another reason why i beleive children should be restricted from spending time in front of media screens is because they bring bad influnce to children.
Nancy Shute from U.S. News and World Report states in her article ‘3 Ways Electronic Media Harm Kids’ Health and 3 Ways They Can Help’ “A dozen studies have correlated TV in the early years with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) later in childhood.” Kids today spend more hours on electronic devices such as computers, phones, and TV than sleeping. Having young children watch certain TV shows posed as a positive effect for the brain. However, with recent studies from China, it shows that no matter the affect having a lot of electronic experience is bad for the body. In “Screen Addiction Is Taking a Toll on Children”, Jane E. Brody argues that, although Internet addiction isn’t considered a clinical diagnoses here, more American youths are plugged out of “live” action for many hours of the day.
For example, the reflections that come from the light of television screen could damage their eyes. For proof, you see most young children have eye glasses in this country where people watch a lot of television. Also the doctors recognize when they did research about the IQ of young children that those who watched television a long time had lower IQ than the other young children who did not watch television. For that reason doctors recommend parents minimize their children views. Doctors say, “Young children shouldn’t watch television more than 20 minutes a day”. I quote from C.D.A program.
I think children should be restricted to spend time in front of media screens. My answer is very strong more towards younger children. Children have undeveloped body parts and some of the main ones are the eyes and the brain. The brain can easily be damaged from anything, because their brain is still developing. Which some children and parents are not understanding or not knowing, this is information every parent should know when thier expecting or already have a child.
My own position on the issue of whether or not childeren should be restricted from spending time in front of media screens. What i really think is that childeren should be restricted for spending to much time in front or on media screens. The reason being is becasue (paragragh 4") it say in this text that in many of the studies report that television viewing by preschoolers lowers thier executive functionssuch as the ability to complete a given task. It also leads to lower test scores later in school an it aslo says that for the first time its seein a decrease in the kids creativity. Also, to me i think that these kids don't have to be completly but they shouldn't spend almost all there time on it. this is why i do agree with the fact of keeping
Most traditional theories suggest that a child should hardly ever be in front of a television, or any electronic device for that matter. Many argue that it wastes time that could
Another harmful consequence of too much of screen time is that it damages overall development of a child. This is because of the intellectual, socialism and creativity . A mother would not be able to witness all these factors, if her child is glued to the monitor all day long .In " Your 2 Year Old: Motor, Cognitive, Verbal and Social Skills " Maureen Ryan (2016) writes that children's understanding at the age of two is increasing day by day. Parents need to Develop their child in a way as they grow up, children would be able to remember all the good times they have spent it together . But, if they don’t take care of their own child , the child would miss all the entertainment in life .
Should children be segregated from each other in schools based on their gender? Many teachers and students alike will argue no. Separating boys and girls in the classroom, setting applies that boys are superior than girls and girls are inferior than boys. After thorough research it was discovered that male children were not much different than there female counterparts after all. Men are no longer the only ones to choose a higher education or work outside of the home, numberless women chose to do so as well. As a result, this teaches sexism instead of promoting that one gender is equal to the next.
To begin with, television can tremendously impact a student’s academic achievement. According to the article, The Good and Bad Effects of TV on Children, “..television provides absolutely no educational benefit to children under the age of 2.” In fact, it takes away from the time that a child’s brain could be spending on development. Skills such as common sense, creativity, and social skills do not become as strong as they could, and may even fail to exist. For example, A long-term study conducted by the Millennium Cohort Study in 2013 found that children who watched more than 3 hours of television, videos, or DVDs a day had a larger chance of problems by the age of 7, than children who did not. This means that those children may have missed out on important
A single day consists of 24 hours. Did you know that each young adult spends an estimate of 3 hours per day watching television (“Television & Adolescents”)? Now if that were rounded up to about 24 hours, or one full day of the week, the amount spent simply doing so can sound a lot more time consuming. As small or normal as the amount of three hours of television per day might sound to most of you fellow teenagers, you may not realize just what kind of impact this has on your daily life. From your health, social life, to even your personal outlook and attitude, neglecting a healthy balance of television can affect all of these major aspects of your life in many ways. Think about sitting in front of a screen for 21 hours, indulging in the sole entertainment of watching television. As strange as it seems, this is actually what the majority of students have been found to be doing with their time. But the amount of time being occupied isn’t the only issue to worry about, you must also consider the physical effects it may have. For instance, given the average viewing time, this could very much cause a harsh strain on your eyes by forcing them to focus on a digital screen for a long period of time. As well as your eyes, another component to observe is the overall effect on the outer body, including poor posture or possibly lack of energy or strength. These are just a few which can result from remaining in a certain position for a constant amount of time, all the while reducing
Adults have been worried about their children watching too much TV since, well, forever. For decades, Americans had only one or two TVs in their home. Now a single household might have dozens of them around the home. But the times have changed and in actuality, we are all surrounded by screens nearly all the time from television, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and video games. “The American Academy of Pediatrics claims that children spend an average of 7 hours a day on what it terms “entertainment media,” and that includes TVs, computers, phones, and other electronic devices.” “The AAP also says that excessive media use “can lead to attention problems, school difficulties, sleep and eating disorders, and obesity.” Are children spending too much time staring at screens? Should parents limit how much time children spend on technology?
There are positive and negative effects to letting a child watch too much TV. Parents should limit their child’s screen time. If a parent lets them watch too much TV the child will not get the proper amount of sleep they need due to the suppression of the hormone melatonin which regulates the sleep/wake cycle. (Dhruvin Patel, Thrive Global) According to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s survey, in the University of Rhode Islands Digital Commons@URI, on media use in 2010 in four 8-18 years old will spend an average ten hours and forty-five minutes exposed to some type of media (TV, cell phone, or computer/tablet). (Hatch, 3-4) Parents need to be sure to limit their child’s screen time, although, there are some positive effects to letting them watch TV. If a child watches TV they can become more educated on current events and they could learn special skills they did not know they had. Letting a child watch tv can inspire them to reach a goal they have set. If a child watches a show such as, American Ninja Warrior, it can inspire that child to work and be able to do a course like that in their life.
When a child stares at a tablet, computer or even a TV it slows down their development. In 2013, The Millennium Cohort Study, a long-term study group in Britain, did a study on 19,000 children born in 2000 and 2001 (http://www.cls.ioe.ac.uk/page.aspx?sitesectionid=851) and found that those who watched three hours or more of movies, television and video games per day are more likely to conduct problems, emotional symptoms and related problems by the time they were 7. This is when we start to realize that there are three main problems with allowing kids to have access to excessive amounts of technology. Children start to lack personal interaction with others, the lack of imagination, and last but not least is the lack of time for soothing busy brains.
The Computer effect on children is also another study that should be looked over as the exposure to computer can have effects on our children’s health. A Study in 2000 saw that “people from the age of 2 through 17 were only on the TV /Computer for an average of 34 min a day.” Not too bad you would think yet the answer lies where “when the children have access to those technologies, those children spend an average of 5 hours a day watching a screen.” (Behrman) This has been linked to obesity as well the study found. Showing that with more hours of the day sucked into watching a screen kids are less active. No activity mean that kids eat and don’t burn the necessary calories they need to burn to grow properly.
