My disease that i am going to talk about is Zoonotic disease. Zoonotic disease is a disease that can be passed between animals and humans. Zoonotic diseases can be caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi. Symptoms and signs can be different depending on the parasite and the person. Scientists estimate that more than 6 out of every 10 infectious diseases in humans are spread from animals. You can get zoonotic disease by coming into contact with the saliva, blood, urine, or feces of an infected animal. Being bitten by a tick or mosquito (vector) and eating or drinking something unsafe . You can prevent it by always wash hands and follow proper hygiene, handle food safely, prevent bites from mosquitoes and ticks, know the simple things
The suburban city of Coquitlam, BC is famous for its scenic landscape that includes Mountains, Lakes, Parks and recreational places. There are many veterinary clinics in Coquitlam that offer grooming, dental prophylaxis, surgery and boarding services. Most clinics have incorporated the use of modern treatment procedures such as ultrasound and laser therapy in their practice. Some of the most outstanding veterinary clinics in Coquitlam include; Lincoln Animal Hospital, Mundy Animal Hospital and Coquitlam Animal Hospital that specializes in integrated medicine. Mundy Animal Hospital was established in 1995 while Coquitlam Animal Hospital has been operating since 1978.
This chapter discusses the link between livestock and crops with germs and diseases. He discusses all the ways that diseases and germs can infect a person and be passed on. Genetically some people have developed immunity to certain diseases or illnesses through generations of repeated exposure. Small populations can't fight outside epidemics and can't evolve their own because they are nearly wiped out every time, therefore the epidemic disappears. There are other infections though that act very slowly, therefore small populations can spread them.
Mad cow disease, also known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), is a transmissible, slowly progressive, degenerative, and fatal disease which affects the central nervous system of adult cattle. Many researchers believe that an abnormal version of a protein normally found on cell surfaces, called a prion is the main reason to cause mad cow disease. For some still unknown reasons, this protein becomes modified and ruins the nervous system tissue, the brain and the spinal cord.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has tested hundreds of thousands of cattle for BSE. Researchers believe that the infectious agent that causes mad cow disease is an abnormal version of a protein normally found on cell surfaces, called a prion. For reasons still unknown, this protein becomes altered and destroys nervous system tissue (brain and spinal cord). There exists strong epidemiologic and laboratory evidence for a causal association between a new human prion disease called variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) that was first reported from the United Kingdom in 1996 and the BSE outbreak in cattle (http://www.cdc.gov). According to The National Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Surveillance Unit, by June 2014 it had killed 177 people in the United Kingdom, and 52 elsewhere. This essay will focus on the possible causes, effects, and treatment for this
Yellow Fever was like a massive fire burning through Philadelphia killing thousands and thousands of people! It was also like a lightning bolt which struck the earth as hard as a runaway train. If you did not know, Yellow Fever is a horrific disease which comes from certain diseased, or infected mosquitoes. The Philadelphian and French doctors had to come up with a solution, or clarification. They both came up with a cure that they thought would be able to help people with the illness. This certain event happened in the summer of 1793 in Philadelphia. The mosquitoes came from some ships that sailed over seas into Philadelphia ports . There was between 2000-5000 people dead. It almost feels like 10,000 were dead! Yellow Fever still exist
A ‘spillover’ , also referred to as zoonosis, can be best described as a disease that has the capability to cross from another species to human beings. The scientists until now, have been successful in identifying approximately 200 zoonotic diseases. In the recommended book, Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic, Davis Quammen has highlighted the emergence and significant effects of zoonotic both human and animal all over the Blue planet. He has covered a good number of the infamous diseases including the Ebola, HIV, malaria, SARS, influenza and Lyme disease.
Pick from the following emerging/reemerging diseases: Brucellosis, Clostridium difficile; Antibiotic-resistant Gonorrhea; Highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5); Japanese encephalitis; MERS-CoV; Naegleria fowleri; Powassan Virus; and Zika. List your disease in the blank. Then, research the disease from www.cdc.gov and answer the following questions.
Heart attacks, bladder failure, and lack of medical cures are all very serious problems that are killing people today. How can doctors learn more about these medical difficulties? Through animal testing doctors can obtain valid results regarding these medical problems and create cures for people with many other medical difficulties. The progression of medicine and the day to day life styles of the general population rely on the ethical practice of animal testing. The alternatives to animal testing are not very valid. “Artificial testing with computer simulations, have not reached a technological level at which these simulations can be trusted to give a valid results to experiments(3).” Also, human testing has many restrictions and
American trypanosomiasis or Chagas disease affects approximately 10 million people, with 40 million people under risk of acquiring the infection. Chagas disease is endemic to South and Central America and the southern states of the USA. Currently, it is also spreading in Europe and the rest of North America due to the immigration of infected people, transmission of the disease through transfusion, transplants and congenital mechanisms (1, 2). The disease is caused by the protozoan, Trypanosoma cruzi. This parasite shares some unique features with other trypanosomes, such as the presence of a flagellum, and a complex structure bearing the mitochondrial genome, called kinetoplast DNA (kDNA) (3). T. cruzi has a complex life cycle, which occurs both within

The disease I pick for this disease project is Scabies. Scabies is a skin disease that is cause by the itch mite called Sarcoptes scabiei. The mite is able to live in the epidermis or upper level of the human skin and there the mite is able to lay its eggs. Then it can work its way up to your skin and when they mature they can also spread to other parts of your body. This mites can only live 24-36 hours outside of the human body. If they stay out that long they normally just died. Scabies is highly contagious and it enters the body by coming in contact with it. Some symptoms are itching specially at night time, small blisters or bumps in the skin. The itch is cause because of the body being allergic to the mites and their waste. Also if you
Diseases can also be transmitted by a mechanical or biological vector, an animal (typically an arthropod) that carries the disease from one host to another.
I could see the early Houston sun rising with much anticipation for the new day. I could almost taste the dew and the crisp air the summer granted that elusive morning. I was timid and shy, for it was my first day riding the Houston metro, and my stop, the Houston Zoo. I was selected among numerous candidates to intern at the education department at the Houston Zoo during the summer of 2015. I was so eager to begin the wonderful journey I knew the Houston Zoo would provide, however, was still ridden with anxiety at the uncertainty that awaited me--I was a neat paradoxical creature that could not decide on pessimism or optimism.
Infectious Disease is disorders that are caused by organisms that may be even more helpful. They can be passed by bites, food and water, and person to person. Noninfectious Diseases don't last as long as infectious and move very slowly through the body. Noninfectious Diseases also are not passed to the person to person. In today's modern medical field, professionals work hard to treat diseases using a variety of methods. Vaccines and antibiotics are two of the many ways that physicians treat diseases, whether infectious, such as Mumps, or noninfectious, such as diabetes.
A zoologist studies the behavior and physiology of the animal they are observing. There are many different jobs a zoologist can do, they can be; forensic zoologist, teachers, zoo curator, marine mammal trainer, conservation, and wildlife rehabilitator.
