Research Paper- the Effects of Domestic Violence

Every action is followed by a reaction; however, occasionally the reaction is only a temporary solution that leads to long-term consequences. This is especially true of how domestic violence is currently governed by the criminal justice system and social norms. A lack of preventative care exists and this ignores the consequences of domestic violence in our society. Incidents of domestic violence are often treated as one-time or isolated occurrences; however, in many cases abusers and victims fall back into these learnt behaviors. Therefore, domestic violence is a never-ending cycle that cannot be stopped without cultural and legal changes that focus on preventing further instances of violence and empowering victims to break the cycle.

At this time, the abuser begins to feel as though they are gaining control, but they still feel fearful their partner will leave, thus leaving the cycle to reoccur. Many find it hard to break the cycle of violence, they believe in the renewed hope they feel during the honeymoon stage. They are optimistic that their partner can change and is deep down a good person.

Domestic violence effects every nationality from the poor to the young spreading through generations of every culture. Domestic abuse is a growing problem that affects millions of people in all types of relationships. The emotions that accompanies through domestic violence causes pain through physical assaults and long lasting psychological trauma. The long extensive abuse leads to death. There are several areas of domestic violence. In this comparison study I will identify and describe four major areas of domestic violence, which include physical abuse, mental/emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and domestic homicide. In this study I will also identify how these areas of domestic violence affect the countries of The United States of America, Japan, Russia, Canada and Africa.

In New York today, there are many social issues occurring. Racism, discrimination against religions, the LGBTQ community, and more. A major issue we have in this state, that not many people recognize, is domestic violence. Domestic violence is the physical, verbal, sexual, or mental abuse between two people in a relationship. Domestic violence is a relevant social issue occurring in New York, but my community and I have ways to put it to an end. Being a woman, I am more endangered of domestic violence than anyone else, a way that I can help stop domestic violence is saying something when I see something.

Families for Families is a nonprofit organization that has committed to Northwest Arkansas to help provide a safe environment for families who have been sexual or physical abused. I’m writing to inquire if the Walton Family Foundation would consider a proposal from Families for Families requesting an investment of $10,000 to support the women and children of Northwest Arkansas. This grant would allow us to expand on counseling and employment within the shelter to help support these victims of domestic violence, and provide them with the security to stand on their own. Recently your focus has been on supporting Northwest Arkansas in order to provide greater impact in your own community to build tools for women and children to sustain their

violence situations. Then help victims to leave their abusers safely and provide a support for survivors.

Domestic Violence is when a partner physically, verbally, emotionally and sexually abuses their intimate partner by exerting power and control over them. Domestic violence occurs in all cultures, races, religions, classes and same sex relationships. There are five main types of domestic violence and they start off less noticeable and become more obvious as the abusive relationship continues: emotional, verbal, technological, sexual, and physical.

Domestic violence, is violent or aggressive behavior from a partner or spouse. There can be many different warning signs of domestic abuse. It can be one telling the other about not doing anything right. The abuser encouraging the victim to stay away from family or friends, showing extreme jealousy, insulting, demeaning, or shaming are also signs of domestic violence. Some victims aren’t aware that they are being targeted.

The topic that I have decided to do the final research paper on is domestic violence and how women do not come forward, the reasons why they do not report the abuse, and overcoming domestic violence. In today’s society everyone is very outspoken, people are more accepting of others being different and constant change occurring around us, but why is it that abuse is a topic that no one speaks about, we all know it is wrong and a crime yet it keeps occurring.

Domestic abuses are not looking to lose control, domestic abuses purposing trying to control another person using words or physical straight to gain control. If a child grows up watching their father, or any one they look up to abuse their parents, or someone they love it is most likely they are going to grow up abusing their wife and child. Not just that but growing up they will face emotional problems, including psychosomatic disordered, stuttering, anxiety and fears, sleep disruption, excessive crying and lashing out at school, some children even start to bully. However, that’s not the case for nearly half of the women worldwide. What starts with a small disagreement and daily put-downs, slowly grows into physical and emotional abuse and eventually can lead to death.
