Research, Statistics, and Psychology Paper

According to the course syllabus we were introduced to the techniques of psychological research. This course was able to provide an understanding of how research is done, and what methods we can use to do so. By having a clear understanding of research and techniques used, it allows us to communicate effectively in regards to ideas behind the research process. In this paper, I will use myself as the case study to examine exactly what I learned about research.

Statistics provides us with very useful tools and techniques that aide us in dealing with real world scenarios. I have been able to learn several useful concepts by studying statistics that can aide me in making rational and informed decisions that are supported by the analysis results. Statistics as a discipline is the application and development of various processes put in place to gather, interpret, and analyse the information. Primary data is data which your business or you find and gather data to analyse. By you or the business finding the data this makes it primary because the data belongs to you making it original. The different ways to gather data is surveys and interviews by collecting data like this makes it original and reliable.

Every outline heading and subheading must include a two to three sentence description.  Additionally, for each study, indicate how it will support the overall concept of your Final Paper and which areas of the Final Paper it will apply to.  Your assignment must include a reference page listing the three to five quantitative research studies from peer-reviewed sources that were published within the last five years (these will also be used for your Final Paper).  It must be formatted according to APA guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Research, systematic inquiry aimed at the discovery of new knowledge, is a central ingredient of the scientific method in psychology. It provides the key to understanding the degree to which hypotheses (and the theories behind them) are accurate. Just as we can apply different theories and hypotheses to explain the same phenomena, we can use a number of alternative methods to conduct research.

As stated in our syllabus, research is essential to the science of psychology. This course was an introduction to the basic concepts and instruments needed to assess and conduct research. Through understanding the research process, as well as the ideas such as validity and reliability, we become better acute consumers and producers of research. I have also learned that research comes in many different tests and observation, but each method is just as important as the last one.

I’ve had a few experiences that relate to what I’ve learned in psychology this semester but the one topic that sticks out the most would be about one of my cousins. Diana, who is the middle child, ended up growing up with my family for a couple of years after her parents divorced when she was 10 years old. When she was younger, my aunt would take her frustrations out on Diana, her brother and sister verbally and physically. My cousin would tell me that her mom would beat her and also blame situations on her, mentally affecting her. Her Father would drink in excess and ended up turning into an alcoholic, which made it so she had no parent to turn to. My cousin started to also drink and cut herself as a way to deal with the situation she

Descriptive and correlation research: Researcher observes a previously existing situation but does not make a change i the situation. Strengths: Offers insight into relationships between variables. Weaknesses: Cannot determine causality.

Part I: I would be interested in certain types of Experimental psychology because of the possibility of creating new ways to do things. I have always imagined that a job where learning and advancing ways of learning would be of interest. Modern humans do not still process mentally the same way as humans from a thousand years ago, and this attests to new possibilities for tomorrow. To help create a new mental hierarchy, a way for people to process stress, or accomplish new heights sounds like a rewarding investment.

Research plays a major role in the field of clinical psychology. According to Plante (2011) “Research is at the foundation of all clinical psychology activities” (p. 10). Since there is a huge demand from the public for the applications of psychology to everyday life, research is in high demand as well (Thorne, 2000). This research has been in demand because of difficulty applying the experimental methods to the study of individual cases, and

Rosnow and Rosenthal (1989) examine statistical procedures and the justification of knowledge in regards to psychological science. Psychology researchers, similar to researchers in other fields, think in inventive ways, resembling hunches and intuitions. Because of this, often progress is the result of guesses and hunches.

"Primary data is the data observed or collected directly from first-hand experience." (Anon., 2014) This means that someone collected the data from the original source firsthand. The person collecting this data could be an organization, researcher, and authorized enumerator. This person acts as a witness so that primary data is considered only as reliable as the people he met.

At the beginning of this subterm, I had a limited understanding of the proper research methods used within psychology. Despite having previously completed several psychology courses, two being upper level courses, there was still much I needed to learn pertaining to psychology research methods. While this research class has been on only an introductory

By delving into the personal life of Quinn McNemar, analyzing his life as a well-respected psychologist, and exploring the fundamental contributions McNemar made in the field of statistics, one can come to understand why his expertness is valued by many in the mathematics world today. To begin, however, one must understand what made McNemar the man he was with the goals he held for himself.
