For this project, stating with research types of spectacular makeup allowed me to explore techniques and ideas that could be applied to my makeup designs. This creativity is aided by the practical work that went along side this project, as well as some techniques from the previous unit. In this project, the work focused on basic prosthetic work and special effects makeup, which were put into a theatrical context. This is an ares of makeup that I have no previous experience in so it helped me improved my knowledge of this makeup area. One method that was a difficulty for myself was the application of bald caps, specifically in the wrapping of hair in perpetration for template taking and application. This element of the project was …show more content…
Doing this should mean that my hair work should become efficient, accurate and effective. An element of this unit that was a personal success was the making of a slush mould and latex noses. Never having worked with plaster, or latex, this task was a challenge for myself. Although my first attempts at this process were not as successful as I wanted them to be, I was able to take away the technique and work from home to create a neat and accurate mould. Having no experience in this side of makeup, the result was pleasing. This practice allowed me to fully understand the process and make a big improvement in my sculpting skills. This is another form of visualising an object and this has advanced my drawing skills as I am able to visualise elements of my designs in a 3-D form. From my last unit, my designs needed to improve and so through practicing sculpting and visualising a form in clay, I have seen improvement in my design skill. Researching has played a bigger part in this project. Analysing different makeup for different types of media has informed my designs and further research, also allowing me to focus on certain techniques from the practical sessions which will be of use to myself for this unit. By completing this general research at the beginning I have developed and refined my further research into area’s that will be informative and helpful for my final outcome. The range of different media I looked
Characters in musicals such as “Cats” and “The Lion King” need totally different styles of make up as performers are to look as animalistic as possible. They do this by adding extra colours over their body rather than just the face. “Elphaba” in “Wicked” has her body makeup touched up everytime she leaves the stage during the show, as her body needs to appear entirely green.
The advancement in the cosmetic industry has increased since the introduction of makeup towards young teenager has become viral. To these students, makeup is an experiment on finding this true passion and beauty. The article, “Makeup is a form of Art”, states that makeup is an art form when seen in the perspective of human beings as a canvas and that, “Each day, the canvas is blank yet again and a new makeup look can be created.”In addition, every shade of eye shadow, every lip shade, and the different type of brushes all incorporate the transformation of a person's personality or ideas to deliver the message of who they are. Young girls and guys from the ages twelve to around 18 begin their introduction of makeup out of curiosity and issues with insecurities, but part of it was accumulated with the idea of building it into a talent. In one of my interviews, I selected Thalia Zuniga to represent this argument as she is a woman who created her own YouTube channel and a separate Instagram account that gives her the ability to share her artistic concepts to other people. She states, “Makeup is an art. I don’t put pink on my eyelid because I'm insecure. I wear makeup because it is an art, it’s a way to transform yourself into a form of art itself… it takes skill to get to the beautiful, creaseless beauty that makeup is,”
For my graduation project I want to experience and gain knowledge on makeup artistry. I want to go into the makeup industry because it's something that has always intrigued me. I enjoy doing my makeup and i’ve been wanting to experience the environment a makeup artist is in. I hope to by choosing this career to do as my project i will further my understandings on makeup.
At last I had a place to use and practice my skills. Makeup was a crucial part of bringing the show to life. I learned to create and maintain the illusion for the audience, picking up simple skills like the right amount of contour, and how to work with the actors and the rest of the makeup crew. When I finally had my first show as crewhead, I was terrified. I had joined only a year beforehand, and I felt that I had no authority-- especially not with such a high stakes show. Our show was Shrek the Musical, meaning we had to completely craft this fantasy world, and makeup was the key to selling it. I spent weeks preparing: building the prosthetics, learning the designs, and organizing the makeup room over and over again. But that was only half the battle; I also had to stand up for my decisions, and represent the makeup
Many of the aspiring special effects make-up artists begin their careers by seeking low-paying jobs as an intern or assistant to train with a more experienced artist. Whether they pursue training they must still have a keen eye when it comes to the usage of colors. The most important tool for a special effects make-up artist to have is their personality. This is of up most importance due to the ability to network and maintain positive work relations with other professionals in this field and it is the difference between success and failure.
{“ Makeup ~ cosmetics such as lipstick or powder, used to enhance or alter the appearance”}.
Beauty standards had completely shifted in the time of the 1920s, as women were attempting to achieve anything opposite than the previous “Victorian” standards. This change was a kind of movement, and resulted in products that would draw attention their new looks. The cosmetics business advanced and was prevalent in enhancing one's beauty. The purpose was to resemble movie stars, actresses with their “beautiful eyebrows and eyelashes.” Women considered to be “average” would used makeup to draw attention to their face as they strived to look in resemblance to movie
Fashion plays a major role in a person’s life because it is expressing how one looks and feels about one’s self. Clothing, accessories and makeup communicate fashion, which are all successful ways of bringing attention and persuasion to popular fashion brands. However, can also lead consumers to higher standards thinking that they can resemble the professional model posing in the advertisement. Like a Cover Girl advertising fade proof, waterproof, and ignore- proof mascara and new intense eye shadow blast that has a photo of Drew Barrymore behind a light grey background with light blue eye shadow around her entire eye. Likewise, revealing Drew Barrymore’s greenish blue eyes with perfectly curled black eyelashes that one can have from the use of this particular new Cover Girl eye shadow blast and mascara.
Although cosmetology in history dates back to ancient times, there are advancements with new beauty supplies, and hair styling tools. However, Some Beauty schools offer this type of schooling as an extra class that requires extra hours to accomplish. This will come later in our topic. Special occasion make-up is commonly used by models, brides, or for prom or homecoming. Whereas theatrical make-up is done to highlight the actors on stage to ensure their look is visible to the audience from a distance. Prosthetics are used for special effects required in films or television to portray non-human appearances. Airbrushing is a technique used to apply makeup thin and evenly without the face feeling heavy or make-up “caking” to the

Throughout time the world’s perception of makeup has always been seen as a way for women to enhance their facial features, a way to feel more accepted into society, and as a way to gain the attention of another individual. Society has set specific standards that women and only women can wear makeup. Although in theater productions it was socially acceptable for men to paint their faces, it was not encouraged that men use their cosmetic abilities outside of performances. Many cultures have drilled the idea into their son’s heads that they cannot wear or play with makeup because they would lose their masculinity. Applying makeup was never seen as a way of self expression, but that a woman's natural beauty wasn’t good enough and that her
Makeup artist are usually not recognized as serious artists, and some people tend to think they have an easy job. Whereas, makeup artists have a difficult role to play– understanding the color wheel, and interpreting what colors compliment hair, eye, and skin colors of different shades. Having a large assortment of makeup, and makeup brushes doesn’t make anyone a makeup artist, it is the skills, education, and practices that establishes the beauty of art, and grants makeup artists with the freedom to express themselves. Being a makeup artist is more than just a dress-up little girl game, being a makeup artist is being able to make art with a face; on a face you have to learn to work with what is on there, it is like painting on divergent canvas structures. Most people do not show
