Literature review starting with the research topic of the modeling and analysis of resistance spot welding on galvanized steel sheet used in car body manufacturing.
In the process analysis of resistance spot welding on galvanized steel used in vehicle body manufacturing, the quality of spot weld is checked from the tensile strength and shear strength properties of the spot weld. The four important parameters in this analysis are:
a. Weld current
b. Weld time
c. Pressure
d. Hold time
These four factors determine the quality of weld. For the first stage of analysis, non- linear behavior of the process become one of the main problem. So the author proposed an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). This Artificial Neural Network is capable of dealing and gives accurate result for non- linear systems. This research paper aims to give the proper solution to control the process input parameters to make better spot weld joints with specified strength. In the second stage of the research work, Genetic Algorithm with fitness function based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model was used for determining a set of optimized process parameters.
At the end of research paper it is concluded that the analysis shows that there is a non- linear relationship between weld parameters and tensile – shear strength properties of spot weld joints. The proposed Artificial Neural Network was very much effective for modeling the non - linear systems. The analysis conducted by the use of Artificial
In stainless steel industry, TIG welding has an important role on joining thin sheets, tubes and pipes. Depending on this important role, the mechanical behaviours of TIG welded joints
Welding is the process of joining pieces of metal or other parts by heating the surfaces to the point of melting using a blow torch, electric arc, or other means. This careers demand has skyrocketed in recent years. According to Tri-County Technical College, welding is ranked as one of the top ten fastest growing career fields in South Carolina by the US Department of Labor (“Welding Associate's Degree”). Welding is a very meticulous career, to be a welder you have to be focused, careful and you have to have an extensive knowledge of the field to be successful. Welding requires a variety of skill sets. If a person has a variety of skills and experience doors will open up for positions such as: shipbuilding, automotive repair, and construction.
the next thing you need is to use the right technique. with the right use of the right technique you can reduce most all the distortion in the weld. distortion is the under cut, porosity the wrong doing of the bead. if you have distortion you have a weld that is no good. the z weave technique is where you move the rod side to side and pause 2 seconds at the corners of the weld. there is also the stringer bead where you move in small tight circles in the direction of your weld. both techniques are good it all depends on the welder those are the two biggest techniques used on the pipeline. after you learn all this your training will be sufficient the next thing you need to do is go get your certifications.
There is even a type of welding for high pressure fuel lines that have broken and are spraying fuel, it involves bathing the area of weld in nitrogen.
Pipeline welding is a job that consists of welders joining industrial sized pipes to each other in order for them to transport gasses, oil, and many other various substances across the country. The pieces of pipe are joined by electrically fusing molten metal to make the two pieces one. These pipes can stretch for thousands of miles and can be found all around the world. This job may overlooked in today’s time, but it is a very important feature that keeps this country running.
about any type of metal. I would get myself two welding carts for my torch kits with
Welding is evolving. It is adjusting, dynamic, and testing. It applies new information and logical standards, and it continually is growing its wildernesses.
If you want to be a welder, and actually have a career, you can go to a welding school and learn how to weld, or you can try to be a welders helper and just learn the trade. Welding can be a tough job if you don’t know what you are doing or you do not enjoy doing it. Welding is a fabrication or sculptural process that joins materials together (Modern Welding). This is the process that uses fuel gases and oxygen to make a molten pool of metal to fuse together two pieces of metal, called puddeling (oxy-fuel welding and cutting. Wikipedia). If you decide to weld as your profession, most welding school students have little trouble finding jobs and finding people certified to weld correctly (Welding.Wikipedia).
A welder can fix basically any metal part that needs to be joined together. They can join beams in the construction of buildings, bridges, and other structures and to join pipes in pipelines, power plants, and refineries. Using a rod and heat to join metals. Operate welding machines that feeds wire to bond materials.(Occupational Outlook Handbook.)
Explosion welding is unique, because it is the only kind of welding that can join any metal together into a single piece known as clad. Two metals are placed together with an explosive powder in between. When designated about 2 million pounds of downward force join the two pieces together. Originated in World War I and II, after strap metal became welded onto pieces armor.
Although all forms of welding have their advantages, there are still disadvantages. Each one comes with a certain downfall.
Metals like steel and aluminum have become key building blocks of modern construction. When builders need strength and durability, they often look to metal. Beginning in 1991, Maui Industrial Metal Fabricators of Puunene, HI has established itself as the premier metal service center in Maui and Hawaii Country. Since the role of metal so often involves supporting heavy loads, it is doubly important that welders showcase a high level of craftsmanship. The pros at Maui Industrial Metal Fabricators are certified through the American Society of the International Association for Testing and Materials, American Welding Society, and the American National Standards Institute.
GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) is more economic; Springer reports that “ GMAW is an economic process because it has higher speeds and higher deposition rates than manual arc welding. There is also no need to constantly change electrodes” ( Page 11). GMAW has a higher speed, which means that you can get the job done faster. It also has high deposition rates which makes the weld look clean and smooth.” This method can be used for a high range of work, but it is not suited for repair work because of it’s weld quality” (Page 4). This process can be used for many variations of work including root welds, joints, T’s, butts, laps, and many more applications. Even though its used for many practices, it is not recommended to use this method for
In the present work AISI 316L stainless steel samples have been welded by MIG welding. Butt joints have been made. Plate thickness is kept constant (= 3mm). Some important parameters have been varied during welding. Thus several butt-welded joints have been made. Each sample of the joints has been prepared under certain combination of welding parameters. The parameters considered for variation, in the present work have been welding current, gas flow rate and nozzle to plate distance. The design of experiment has been done using L9 Taguchi design of experiment. The influence of the process parameters (mainly current, gas flow rate and nozzle to plate distance) has been examined visually and also through X-ray radiographic tests. Next, samples have been cut, machined to conform to some specified dimensions for tensile testing. The quality of the weld has been evaluated in terms of ultimate strength, yield strength and percentage of elongation of the
In this thesis the Optimization of Number of Spot welds on Automobile Wheel Rim using Finite Element Analysis is studied. Spot welded rim must pass certain tests like Weld Strength Test (WST), Dynamic Cornering Fatigue Test (DCFT) and Radial Fatigue Test (RFT). In Weld Strength test a shear force is applied on the spot weld using Universal Testing Machine. In dynamic cornering fatigue Test a moment is applied on the rim as specified by the company standards. In Radial Fatigue Test Influence of Tire pressure and vehicle load are studied. We choose three parameters for optimization namely, Number of spots on rim, spot diameter and thickness of rim.
