Argumentative Essay: Resolving Conflict
Melba Pattillo Beals from the book Warriors Don’t Cry and the fiction Animal Farm has the best way to respond to conflict. Some of them are, keeping strong and try not to show others they bother you, talk about it and be assertive, and stick up for yourself and find a solution. Have you ever wondered why there is still fighting in this world? Well, that’s because those people have not found a result to their conflict. “Please, God, let me learn how to stop being a warrior, sometimes I just need to be a girl” (Source #2). The book has realistic conflicts, but the animals can speak to each other and the humans. One Day a horse called, Boxer spoke up about their conflict that was happening and snapped, “Let’s face it: our lives are miserable, laborious, and short.” (Source #1) The other animals agreed and understood what he meant, since Boxer spoke up, they all decided to do something about their conflict. The saying that Boxer spoke contemplates that the animals are not being treated fairly and their goal was to have equality and wanted to make it happen. “Man serves the interest of no creature except himself.”(Source #1) The animals explain why man can be so cruel, but they stick up for themselves and work even harder. They try to earn their farm back, they trusted the leaders and won their own war, but later on, the pigs went against the farm and they wanted to be allies with the humans again. Before, the members of Animal Farm were explaining how cruel man can be to animals and want to stop the animal abuse that has been happening to their farm. The leader labeled as, Napoleon blurted, “There, Comrades, is the answer to all our problems. It is summed up in a single word… man.” (Source #1) The animals
Have you ever faced a crucial turning point that impacted yourself and others? Melba Pattillo Beals in Warriors Don't Cry fought hard to be as equal as white's by integrating into an all white high school. In Warriors Don't Cry it says "Why can't I go everywhere white's can go" (Beals 29). Melba was little at the time and being black she didn't understand why people with a different color skin could do so much more than she could. She wanted to go everywhere white's were going and be just like them. When her chance came to join an all white high school she was flattered and took up the offer immediately and wanted to prove herself.
Melba Beals was certainly full of grit. When she insisted to go back to school after segregationists were trying to keep her out the school, but she still insisted on going back to school to finish all her classes and take her final exams. Even after all those people told her to get out; and she finished high school with pride. When Melba showed her grit later on people started encouraging her more saying she’s doing a great thing for this town (Beals 224). I thought this anecdote was important because it shows an example of how grit is used in the right context. The journey archetype means a recurrent image, symbol, or even a situation that instinctual expressions man 's nature and experiences that are universal in humanity. While self-identity means the recognition of one 's potential and qualities of as an individual. People 's traits impact who they are as a person because if they have poorly traits they’ll show that in the way they act same thing for the good traits. Melba Beals’ “Warriors Don’t Cry,” “Homer’s “The Odyssey,” and my own life reveal that our characters traits have an impact on our life journeys and self identities.

Turning Points Have you ever had a life-changing experience in your life or a turning point that affected you and/or your community? A turning point is a life-changing experience. Melba Pattillo Beals (“Warriors Don’t Cry” By Beals), Helen Keller (“The Story of My Life” By Keller), and Karana (“Island of the Blue Dolphins” By: O’Dell) all had turning points in their lives that affected everyone and themselves. Melba Pattillo Beals had a turning point in her life.
Melba Patillo Beals’ main reason in writing her novel Warriors Don’t Cry was to show the horrific and detrimental nature of racism. She wanted her audience to see what she saw and experienced during the segregationist times. In the novel she narrated the tragic events of her high school life going to an all-white school, along with eight other african american girls. She revealed how destructive humans could be because someone or something was “different”.
Emotional strength shows throughout Melba Patillio Beals search for freedom and equality. While Beals comes home one day screaming out,"I'll never go back to Central!"Later on in the story, Beals still goes to Central High School. Beals still go back even after what happens to her at the school, she doesn't want to give the students satisfaction.If she didn't go back, the students would have thought that they have finally driven her out. Believing that they can control anyone by threatening them. Her emotional strength here keeps her going even if it's not strong enough yet, she still goes knowing what is ahead. Her social life is taken away from her, because of Central High and that's one of the reasons she doesn’t want to go back. Melba is a black teenage girl in Little Rock, Arkansas.She wanted to desegregate the schools because she wanted to be equal. Melba went through many things throughout the book, trials ,tribulations and even losing normal life.Melba uses her grandmothers tactics and by faith in order to fight like a warrior. In Warriors Don’t Cry, Melba Patillo Beals presents the idea that personal strength, faith, and discouragement are necessary character traits in her fight for freedom and equality.
Everywhere in the world and in almost every aspect of life, people strive for power. The desire of power is a natural thought to humans. In Animal Farm, a group of animals win their power from humans and create their own community, which they said would have no leaders. Naturally, though, leaders arise due to certain things, one of which, is knowledge. In Animal Farm, the animals on the farm gain power over the humans and start their own society, which leads to the pigs rising as natural leaders primarily because of their knowledge.
At the beginning of Animal Farm all of the animals are equal and must follow the same rules together. As this book goes on the pigs end up separating themselves from the other animals and become more human-like in numerous ways. As the pigs evolve, they start to adopt the same characteristics the humans have such as being very selfish, dishonest, and having no loyalty. At the beginning of the story Mr. Jones was very selfish towards the animals.
Orwell shows the difference in those with absolute control and those without the ability to express themselves by describing how “the pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge, it was natural that they should assume the leadership”(35). By including this quote within the making of the new farm, Orwell expresses how the pigs took advantage of their authorial positions so they could force the others to work, while they dominated Animal Farm with their own rules. The pigs’ power allowed them to have freedom to do anything they wanted, but caused the other animals to be restricted further in their lives, work, and individual rights. This resulted in the exploitation of the other animals, forcing them to have lose any hopes of having an equal society. Still, the other animals did not protest, and instead believed the pigs should be in power because of their intelligence. Their actions lead to the oppressive, dictatorial society shown as Animal Farm progresses. Soon, the inequity between the pigs and other animals develops to a point where “all rations were reduced, except those of the pigs and the dogs. A too rigid equality in rations, Squealer explained, would have been contrary to the principles of Animalism”
To fully take control over Animal Farm, the government spread the message that the farm could not prosper or function without the pigs. This message allowed the pigs to gain many privileges in the farm without question. From the very beginning of the story, the other animals regarded the pigs as the smartest of all the animals in the farm. Because of this, it was naturally assumed that the pigs should lead the farm into rebellion against the humans and guide the animals into a better life. However, the pigs gained more control than the other animals thought they would. The neglected animals of the farm rise up to overthrow Jones, and imagine a society of fairness based on the experiences of old major, in which all animals will have justice and won’t be demoralized by the people anymore. Old Major quickly establishes that “Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend” (Orwell 11).
