Respecting Others
The many problems we face today as a society seem to become more and more overwhelming. I believe that respect for one other is a big social issue we face today in our generation of tomorrow. We see this problem in teens, in so many places. For example, in school there is a lack of respect for students from other fellow students. At home there is a lack of respect from the children of this generation to their parents. There is also a lack of respect from young adults to most authoritative figures. This is where the golden rule comes in to play. If the majority of students up held respect for one another by treating others as they would like to be treated, situations like Columbine may could have been avoided. The next, most apparent sign of lack of respect is in the common household from this generation. This is where the whole problem of disrespect begins, learning to disrespect or respect one another. If a juvenile has not been taught to respect his or her parents, why would that person even consider respecting anyone outside a relationship that was supposed to be close knit?
Adolescents must be taught in the home to respect others; realizing that each person has a differing situation and a different outlook on life, but before this can happen they too must be respected and regarded themselves. The best way of teaching is to lead by example. Maybe, if taught young to respect others inside the home, the majority of most young adults could avoid a life misery and trouble. This life is brought before them via their decisions in life. A good illustration of this is when teenagers turn to gangs to feel respect - the wrong kind - from one another as a substitute for what they should receive at home, thus leading to a life of violence and crime. Explain why it is important to promote appropriate behaviour and respect for others (ref. 2.2) It is important to promote appropriate behaviuor and respect for others in the class to create a safe and comfortable learning environment in which learners feel at ease to express their opinion, participate in classroom discussions and activities and ask questions allowing learners to complete their work to the best of their ability and ultimately achieve their goals. Each learner may have different religious or cultural backgrounds and even different learning needs. Older than any individual group, organization, religion, civilization, culture or military, respect is almost as old, if not as old, as the human race itself. Second, one has to show respect to others in order to gain respect from them. If one doesn’t show respect to someone, that person may often feel blown off and lose respect for you. Respect: The classroom environment is one were respect is a two-way street. In this classroom students respect the teacher and teacher other, while the teacher shows respect to each of the students. Any differences that students have from one another are respected and dealt will appropriately so that students feel safe and welcomed into the classroom community.
Respect: as a professional, respect should be demonstrated in your work, attitude, and communication with others. One way to gain the attention of your students is by creating an atmosphere of respect. This will then create a relation among you and the student that will keep the student engage and enthusiastic to learn. Generally building up an atmosphere of appreciation makes your students feel welcome and acknowledged in your classroom. Students who see themselves as regarded notwithstanding their learning contrasts are best ready to profit by distinctive chances to learn (Moore et al., 2011).
Strengths of being respectful children never know when you’ll meet again. Treating someone with utmost respect now will leave a memorable impression on them. Children never know when that person will be in a position where you need their help in the future. A bit shallow, yet very realistic way of looking at respect.

In my household and today’s society, it’s difficult to be “just a kid”. My parents expect much from me both in school and out. In return of my efforts, I expect my parents to accept me for who I am and the decisions I make. Since I am just a child, I shouldn’t expect this from my parents but I believe that the respect I give them should be returned. My maturity level should not affect the level of respect I am shown.
In other cases respect is earned, and not given. What I mean by this is that, sometimes people must gain the respect of others. This can be earned in many ways, like being respectful of others, being the best you can be, and doing kind things for others. This respect can cause people to look up and follow in example of someone, and eventually making you an example for others to follow and look up to, on so on and so forth.
This respect should be shown on every ones property including friend’s, teachers, and even strangers.
Students may exhibit disrespectful behaviors for several reasons. One of these reasons being that they lack an understanding of respect and have limited experiences with receiving or showing respect (Borba, 2017). It is important to consider a student’s background when they display disrespectful behaviors (McNeely, 2017). If students have not seen respect modeled frequently in their lives, it is understandable that may not understand this behavior (Borba, 2017).
As children we are taught to always show respect to those around us. We are taught to never say no to an adult, to listen and to use manners to everyone around us. But as we grow older we develop a sense of rebelliousness, and an urge to question every single moral and value we have learned.
Respect is an important value to be taught when growing up. Through the years I have learned that in order to learn anything you must have respect for others. I have learned many valuable lessons from listening to my grandmother. She has told me many of her experiences, which has made me a better person. Having respect for other people has allowed me to be more open-minded and see qualities in people that most would not. I have always listened to what my friends and family has to say. That doesn’t always mean that I agree with them, but it is their opinion, so I respect it. In return I receive respect from them. As people begin to respect me more their trust in me also grows.
