Guns have been used for homicide and suicide at a disappointingly high rate over the years. Each life lost is a life that matters. Do we really want to let our children grow up in a world where everyone has extremely simple access to purchase firearms that could harm you? There are always new cases of homicide and suicide making headlines in America but gun control is nonexistent yet to help prevent these cases. As Americans, we shouldn’t have to worry about risking our lives while going into public with our families. Gun control should not exist at all in the United States. Mass shootings have almost become seen as normal event in the United States. What people do not understand is that gun control is not the answer; there are countries with little to no control that have fewer shootings. According to The Washington Post,Finland is ranked number 4 in countries with the most guns despite that they only had 24 homicides by firearm (“Gun homicides and ownership by countries” n.pag.) . The number of murders, homicides, or suicides do not go up due to people just owning more guns. Clayton Perry, a staff writer at the University of Maine, even points out “Stricter gun laws were in place during the Assault Weapons Ban between 1994 and 2004, but that didn't stop the shooters at Columbine in 1999 ”(Perry n. pag.). In Iceland, thirty out of a hundred people own a gun and they have zero homicides caused by guns a year(“Gun Homicides and ownership by country” n. pag.). In this day and age, everything is unpredictable, guns are a form of protection for everyone and there should not be restrictions on protection. The U.S. Department of Justice released a data brief that states, “ On average in 1987-92 about 83,000 crime victims per year used a firearm to defend themselves or their property”(Rand BJS Statistician n. pag.). The National Sheriffs Association released that the average police response time is at eighteen minutes while the average school shooting only last twelve minutes (“Embracing Technology To Decrease Response Time” n. pag.). Gun control should not exist because other countries do fine without it , high gun ownership has no link with increasing death rates , and guns are not harmful when instructions are followed.

Guns versus crime is the hot topic in America. Government officials are looking at how much crime has happened with firearms instead of also looking at how the American people will be able to defend themselves when need be if guns are fully taken away. Government officials are trying to find a solution to eliminate the percentage of deaths per year. Guns are dangerous when used inappropriately, especially when they get into the wrong hands. One of the most important legislation part for control violence in today's society are certainly the laws related to gun control. As with every important question, there are two opposite opinions on whether in Wisconsin we should have about gun control. My opinion is that we should have more gun control in Wisconsin. My point of view is based on the ability to better protect women from domestic abuse; the threat of people who already passed background check, and the necessity to reduce mass shooting in Wisconsin.

Gun Control in the United States has gone out of control. The United States should enforce laws to not allow any guns in a house hold in order to reduce violence and crime in the country. Gun control does not prevent homicide. A relatively small amount of people are killed by guns more killed by traffic accidents, heart disease, and even the flu. From 1980 to 2009 a ban on assault rifles did not affect the homicide rate at a state level in the United States. In fact Mexico, one of the strictest countries on gun control, has a rate of 9.97 gun related homicides per 100,000 people while the United States has a rate of 2.97(UNODC). Actually guns count for a mere 1.3% of all deaths internationally(Small Arms Survey). That includes all accidental deaths as well as homicides. The United States is ranked number 28 International for total number of homicides per 100,000 people. If you count only gun related homicides the United States was ranked number 59 In 2015(Small Arms Survey). In the United States guns are ranked as the only the 12 cause of death with a total of 533,879 deaths between 1990 and 2015(procon.org). The leading cause of death now is heart disease(cdc).

Did you know that in 2010 alone, there where over 30,000 gun related deaths? Only 35% of those death where from homicide and the leading cause of death by guns in America are from suicide. Gun control activist argue that without guys we are more safer; Gun rights activist argue with guns we are safer. Despise both groups arguments it is mutually agreed guns are dangerous and aren't something that should be played with. Gun control is not effective as it has not been shown to reduce the number of gun-related crimes because, states with strict gun laws see no decrease in crime, the Paris attack shows gun laws don't stop terrorists, the 2nd amendment guarantees our right to bear arms and gun laws don't stop terrorists from buying guns from a black market.

Should the United States have gun control or gun rights? This is a question many people ask and argue over. As a citizen of this country, I would like to examine both sides of the argument and then pick my view on the topic. As of right now, the United States have more gun rights than gun control. However, there have been laws made to regulate the sale and possession of guns. Many anti-gun activists argue that the NRA (National Rifle Association) is the cause of many of the horrific events involving guns. On the other hand, the NRA argues that the members are all law abiding citizens. The real question is can you blame guns for all of the incidents.

Sadly, some people believe that the best way to deal with these violent occurrences is to pass gun control laws that take away legally owned guns from everyone. Not only does gun control end up disarming the innocent but it also violates the Second Amendment. By taking away guns from the American citizens, whom the Second Amendment bestowed onto us this act violates our rights. By taking away arms from good law abiding citizens and leaving them defenseless, it makes things much easier for criminals by knowing that their victims are not armed. Although the gun ban would take away guns from stores, a criminal will find a way to get their hands on one, imagine that. Gun controls are taking away our rights as citizens. If a law abiding citizen happens to enjoy hunting, they will lose that right. Gun controls are also taking away weapons from citizens. Gun control is not having a positive effect on America because it violates the second amendment, takes away rights and it won’t reduce the crime rate.
