Retirement in later life can present many obstacles Citation. This paper will be a reflection of three family’s view of the world from this stage of life. The women come from different cultural backgrounds. The two women have put in place a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) which is equivalent to an advance directive. ( What is WRAP and Cite) End-of-life perspective: Sonya is still working into her later years. She admits she did not plan well for retirement. Sonya admits if she were not in a marriage her financial situation would not afforded her the lifestyle she has become accustomed to. Sonya would like to be in a position to retire. Retirement income was not important because living in the city with family, contribution to the household income was very small??. Family # 2 Bill and Ida came from a working middle class background. This couple faced racism, psychological trauma which has affected the way they interact with others. Aging families often face challenges that can cause stress on the family system. (Martin, Distelberg, & Elahad, 2015). When the learner compares Bill and Ida to Jackie and Sonya there are distinctly different experiences. Jackie and Sonya grew up more with opportunities. The lesbian couple did face discrimination due to their sexual orientation but still had access to mental health services .Minnie and Jordan’s experiences are different. Minnie grew up in the Southern States, while her daughter was raised in the North. Jordan had far greater opportunities than her mom. Jordan went to private schools and colleges. The individuals that grew up poor in the South and migrated to the North have different views on aging. The younger generation view aging as an opportunity for growth. They are prepared for life in later years. All individuals have a deep seated need to belong or be a part of a group to thrive and survive (Nolan, 2011). Over the course of history older adults destinies were in the hands of their families or themselves.
