Edgar Allen Poe’s Cask of Amontillado is a tale of revenge that has a somewhat eerie presence in it throughout the story. Poe begins this story with the protagonist Montresor vowing revenge on the antagonist Fortunato. The protagonist then explains that he has not made it known that he will exact his revenge unto Fortunato, which he believes will help him in the future. Montresor finds Fortunato at a carnival and explains to him that he may possibly have a cask of Amontillado, and he needs someone to taste it. Fortunato was an excellent wine connoisseur, and he would not be pushed away. Montresor says he doesn’t have to do it, he can have someone else do it.
