Review: Harry Potter Novels by J K Rowling

Rowling's popular series of novels for young adults. In the first book of the series, called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Potter is a ten year old orphan who lives with his mean Muggle uncle and aunt, and their bully son Dudley. Muggles are non-magical people: people who are not born with the natural talents of witchcraft and wizardry as Harry is. Harry's biological parents were famous wizards, who were killed by the evil Voldemort. Voldemort wanted to kill Harry Potter because it was predicted that Potter would destroy him. However, Harry Potter escaped from Voldmort with only a scar in the shape of a lightening bolt on his forehead. His parents died trying to protect Harry, who now has to live with the pressure of finding Voldemort and getting revenge for the death of his parents. Harry is not a vengeful character, though. Harry Potter is a character who represents good, in the battle of good versus evil.
The setting of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone begins in the "real" world of the Muggles. However, when Harry gets called to go to Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the setting of the story is shifted to there. It is in the alternative world of the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that most of the action of the story takes place. At Hogwart's school, Harry meets the people who will become his best friends including Ron Weasley and Hermione. Harry, Weasley, and Hermione become tight friends.…
