My eyes devoured “Wildwood,” the second chapter of Junot Díaz’s The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. The narrative gripped me, replacing a casual interest in Oscar into an earnest thirst to hear more about his older sister, Lola. Characterized as a troubled girl, or an attractive woman, or Oscar’s sister, the strength of her story is eclipsed by the book’s focus.
